Summary

Running Back Rank: #34All Players: #69
Jackson was expected to have a big first season with the Falcons, moving to a good team in a great offense. Well, things didn't go as planned as the Falcons struggled and Jackson battled injury much of the season. Jackson didn't have a single 100-yard game all season and finished with just more than 700 total yards. His best stat was seven touchdowns in 12 games. Jackson turns 31 before the start of the season and has more than 2,500 carries under his belt. He started to show signs of slowing down last season so a turnaround isn't expected. He might be best suited for more of a time share at this stage of his career. When in his prime, Jackson was the complete package at running back. He has enough speed to break a play to the outside but also isn't afraid to run over a would-be tackler. Jackson is as big as some linebackers, making him a scary proposition for defenses. He does lack a little big-play ability, though, because he isn't as fast as he used to be.
FANTASY OUTLOOK
Jackson can improve on last season but don't expect a big jump in production by any means. He still has touchdown potential but expect him to get around 1,000 total yards. He is more of a No. 2 fantasy back. Last season was setup for him to have a huge fantasy season but things didn't break his way. He won't have near the hype heading into this season and with good reason.

comments about Steven Jackson

Notes

Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson said he wants to make sure the team has a top-10 running game this upcoming season.

Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith is optimistic that RB Steven Jackson will bounce back from a disappointing 2013 season in which he played in only 12 games due to a hamstring injury and averaged a career-low 3.5 yards per carry. Jackson finished the year with six touchdowns in the final six games, however. Atlanta uses a committee at running back with Jackson and RBs Jacquizz Rodgers and Antone Smith.
Fantasy Impact: We aren't so sure. Jackson just can't stay healthy these days, which is a concern.

Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson had his best game of the season in Week 13 with 23 carries for 84 yards and two touchdowns.
Fantasy Impact: It took some time but Jackson is finally producing some for fantasy teams.

Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson (toe) was limited in practice Thursday, Nov. 14.

Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson (toe) was limited during practice Wednesday, Nov. 13.
Fantasy Impact: He should be fine for Week 11 but isn't much of a fantasy option right now.

Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter wants to lean upon RB Steven Jackson more than he has since the running back returned from injury. 'My opinion is Steven Jackson is a workhorse running back and we haven't been able to work him,' Koetter said Tuesday, Nov. 12. 'I mean, I think Steven is one of those guys that gets better the more he touches it.' Jackson's season-high for carries is 13 against the Carolina Panthers.
Fantasy Impact: You have to wonder if this is a good idea with Jackson struggling with his chances. He has clearly lost a step.

Atlanta Falcons WR Roddy White, who returned this week from ankle and hamstring injuries, had just one catch for 20 yards in a 33-10 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, Nov. 10. His teammate, RB Steven Jackson, managed only 11 yards on nine carries in the defeat.
Fantasy Impact: Jackson is having an awful season. He had a great matchup this week but still couldn't get it done. We wouldn't expect a big turnaround in the near future.

Atlanta Falcons RB Steven Jackson must average 107.5 yards rushing over the last eight games to extend his streak of 1,000-yard seasons to eight in a row. He has just 140 yards in four games this season, having missed four others with an injury.
Fantasy Impact: We don't see this happening.
