Summary

Tight End Rank: #4All Players: #40
Davis didn't have quite a career season but was pretty close. He did tie a career high with 13 touchdowns, though. He also had 850 yards, averaging 16.3 yards per reception. He was quite the big-play threat in the passing game for the 49ers. He had some really big games throughout the season, having six games with 70 or more yards. Davis has two seasons with double-digit scores and 850 or more yards three of the last five years. He is a big part of the 49ers passing attack and always capable of the big game. Davis has the speed of a receiver, but the size of a tight end. He is a great athlete, making a ton of plays with the ball in his hands as well as making the tough catch in key situations. He is a big mismatch for the opposition.
FANTASY OUTLOOK
Davis is a little more erratic than some of the elite tight ends but he has huge touchdown and yardage potential as the favorite target of Colin Kaepernick. Davis should get around 50 receptions for 800 yards and 10 touchdowns. He might be hit or miss at times but his overall numbers will look good in the end.

comments about Vernon Davis

Notes

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis will return to the team next season, according to general manager Trent Baalke. Davis will make $4.95 million in the final year of his deal, but he's coming off a season in which he had just 26 catches for a measly 245 yards and two touchdowns (both in the season opener). Davis is expected to take part in the team's offseason program after skipping the mandatory minicamp last offseason.

San Francisco 49ers tight ends coach Tony Sparano tutored Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten in his first two years in the NFL, and ESPN.com's Paul Gutierrez believes TE Vernon Davis could benefit from having Sparano as a position coach.

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis had just two touchdowns in 2014, and they both came in Week 1. He also wasn't targeted at all in the red zone after the opening weekend of the regular season after catching 13 TDs in 2013. The Niners and Davis hope that the hiring of Tony Sparano as the new tight ends coach can fix that heading into 2015. San Fran tight ends combined for just 39 catches for 423 yards (10.9 yards per catch) in 2014.
Fantasy Impact: Davis is a good bounce-back candidate for the 49ers, getting a new regime to get him more involved in the offense.

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis' roster spot for 2015 could be in jeopardy, because he is scheduled to make $4.95 million next season.

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis has not been targeted in the red zone since Week 1 of the season.
Fantasy Impact: We aren't sure how this can even happen. Davis has been one of the top red-zone targets in all of football the last several seasons.

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis has been frustrated with his role in the team's offense this year. For me, it's all about coming here, showing up and doing what I have to do to contribute, Davis said. As far as not getting the ball, (I) leave it up to the offensive coordinator. It's his call. Davis is only averaging 4.1 targets per game after averaging 5.5 targets per game last season. He's also dropped 6 of 31 catchable passes this year, and his 19.4 percent drop rate is the second highest among tight ends in the league, according to Pro Football Focus. Davis' blocking skills have also declined.

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis had three catches for just 21 yards in the team's Week 12 win over the Washington Redskins, and that came after he had two catches or less in four straight games. Davis stopped his routes too soon on two of his catches and also dropped what would have been a 20-yard pass. Davis has played in six straight games after missing two games earlier this year with injuries.
Fantasy Impact: Davis is really a bust right now and we don't see that turning around right now.
