Summary

The Seahawks had a solid year defensively, getting the benefit of playing in a pretty weak offensive division. Seattle finished ninth overall defensively and were a top 10 fantasy defense in most formats. They did a great job of creating turnovers, though, grabbing 22 interceptions, which was among the best in the league. Seattle didn't have a great pass rush but weren't terrible, notching 33 sacks last season. That number could improve some with newcomer Bruce Irvin expected to generate a top pass rush. The secondary remains the strength of the team with cornerbacks Richard Sherman and Brandon Brower emerging as solid players. The Seahawks added linebacker Barrett Ruud to try to improve a mediocre run defense. The Special teams remain strong for the Seahawks with two top return men at their disposal. Both Leon Washington and Golden Tate are big-play threats and do well in the return game.
FANTASY OUTLOOK
The Seahawks probably will be overlooked some come draft day but they have upside in a weak division. Seattle could be a nice platoon option for fantasy teams. They cause turnovers and their sack totals should be improved a little.

Notes

A Seattle man was killed during a shooting at a crowded club early Monday, Dec. 24, where several Seattle Seahawks were partying, according to police. However, none of the players were involved in the incident, according to head coach Pete Carroll. 'From what we know our guys were in a separate area and nobody was involved at all,' Carroll said. 'It was an awful thing that happened.' Over 600 people were in the club at the time of the shooting.

After allowing just 70 rushing yards per game through six games, which was good for second in the NFL, the Seattle Seahawks have given up 167.3 rushing yards and 6.2 yards per carry in the last two games, mostly to the San Francisco 49ers and Minnesota Vikings. Head coach Pete Carroll thinks his young players are trying to do too much. Seattle head Minnesota to just 59 yards in the second half in Week 9 after simplifying some things on defense. The Niners are No. 1 in the league in rushing, and Vikings RB Adrian Peterson is one of the best in the league.

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said the team was fortunate to have a very close call go their way in the final moments of their win over the Green Bay Packers in Week 3 Monday, Sept. 24. 'Yeah, and I think it's cool that the league thought that, too,' Carroll said. 'It's very questionable, it's a very questionable call to make. But it's simultaneous when they hit the ground. Up in the air, it looked like the DB had the advantage, but when they got to the ground, it's a matched-up catch, and it's a very hard one to call.'

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said he is not revealing the team's starting quarterback for Week 1, even though QB Matt Flynn is starting the preseason opener. 'You'll have to wait and see,' Carroll said. 'Wait and see. Taking one week at a time.'

If Texas A&M QB Ryan Tannehill were to slip out of the top 10 picks in the NFL Draft, look for the Seattle Seahawks to take him with the No. 12 pick. The Seahawks want Tannehill, even if they just recently signed QB Matt Flynn. Head coach Pete Carroll fell in love with Tannehill during his workout.

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll has backed off a previous threat of lineup changes, which was prompted by frustration over penalties in the team's Week 12 loss. 'Coach (John) Wooden always said that the coach's greatest ally is the bench. That's what was going through my mind. It was much easier to access that bench when you had 110 guys, you know? When you've got 46 guys, it's a little bit harder,' Carroll said.

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll blamed his hormones for his choice of going for it on fourth-and-two from the three-yard line with 14 seconds left in the first half of the team's Week 8 game. The Seahawks ran RB Marshawn Lynch up the middle on an inside draw, and he got the first down, but fell a foot short of the end zone. Without a timeout, the Seahawks could not stop the clock and a minor scrum ensued as Seattle tried to lineup, without success, to run another play. 'We learned about what happens when a coach gets hormonal and tries to freakin' jam it down their throat for the touchdown there right at the half,' Carroll said about the play. 'That was a mistake. It would have been a good call if we made it. But we didn't.'

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said he hasn't been happy with his team's level of practice during the first few weeks of the season; however, he saw a big improvement this week, calling it, 'Probably the most solid week we've had ... It'll be interesting to see if it carries into the game.'
