Cleveland Browns LB Jabaal Sheard was uncomfortable lining up on the right side during his rookie season, and he was quickly moved to the left side. Even on the left side, he has struggled against the run in his first two seasons, so he might be better used on the strong side or teams could take advantage in the run game. If LB Barkevious Mingo catches on quickly, Sheard could be used in more of a rotation sub role off the bench.

The Cleveland Browns switched from the 4-3 defensive scheme to the 3-4 defense, and they club is hopeful DL Jabaal Sheard can make the move from the defensive line to outside linebacker, where the team has one spot to fill.

Cleveland Browns defensive coordinator Ray Horton is uncertain where DE Jabaal Sheard will be used in the 3-4 defensive scheme, but he likes what he has seen on tape. Horton was asked if Sheard can play outside linebacker. 'I would hope my answer would be, 'Let's not put limits on what players can and cannot do.' Jabaal is a guy that I have seen on film that can rush the quarterback and is athletic,' Horton said. 'What we are going to do as a coaching staff is put each one of our guys in the best position. He may be a strong safety some time, he can be a linebacker, he can be a (defensive) end.'

Cleveland Browns DE Jabaal Sheard said he hopes the team keeps using the 4-3 defensive alignment but is willing to play a new position if the team switches to a 3-4 defensive alignment. 'I would be [disappointed in a switch], because I like the 4-3 we're in, and it's a defense where I've been comfortable,' said Sheard. 'But I'm up for a challenge at any time. I want to show how athletic I am, and show that I can play multiple positions.'

Cleveland Browns defensive coordinator Dick Jauron said he is not worried that DE Jabaal Sheard only has one sack in five games this season. 'I have no problems with Jabaal Sheard and the way he plays the game.' Jauron said. 'He's a special player. Sometimes you get the (sack) numbers, sometimes you don't.'
