Outlook

The Jaguars have to be better after last season but probably won't be much better. Their quarterback situation remains a concern as Blain Gabbert seems lost at times. If he gets a lot better, the Jaguars could finish around .500. If not, another losing season seems right for the Jags. The defense was better last year but still aren't a top defense by any means. They have plenty of holes, especially in the secondary.

FANTASY BREAKOUT

Justin Blackmon, WR. Blackmon is the real deal at receiver. His offense has obvious concerns this year but Blackmon will get his targets as the No. 1 receiver for the Jags. Plus, they will throw the ball a decent amount with Mike Mularkey calling plays, which is a positive for Blackmon. He won't have a huge season like some of the other rookies, but will do well enough to still help fantasy games. He'll be capable of the big game any given week.

FANTASY DUD

Laurent Robinson, WR. Robinson is another receiver moving to a new team. He cashed in on a huge season with the Cowboys, signing a lucrative deal with the Jaguars to become a starter in their offense. Robinson is 27 years old, though, and never had a season with more than 500 yards before last year. He can be productive in what should be a better Jags' offense but he'll have a real hard time getting double-digit touchdowns and posting big yardage totals in this system. Let someone else grab Robinson too early come draft day.

Team Notes

May 21, 12:13 PM Jacksonville Jaguars DL Kyle Love said he's confident his Type 2 diabetes won't be a problem or cause him to change his playing style. Type 2 diabetes is more manageable with the blood-sugar monitoring, a healthy diet and a good dose of physical activity. Love has already changed his diet, cutting out juices and desserts. He said he reported to the New England Patriots at 297 pounds, which is 18 pounds lighter than his normal playing weight. He also lost 10 pounds from working out and rest from diabetes. 'People try to make it like I lost 30 pounds,' he said. 'I didn't lose 30 pounds. ... I feel great. There's nothing wrong with me. There's a lot of rumors going around. Like they say, you can't believe everything you hear,' Love said.
May 20, 04:23 PM Free-agent RB Montell Owens (Jaguars) has left his meeting with the Buffalo Bills without a contract and plans to explore other opportunities.
May 20, 11:33 AM Free-agent RB Montell Owens (Jaguars) is at Buffalo Bills camp Monday, May 20, wearing Bills shorts and cleats. No roster move has been announced yet.
May 16, 04:32 PM The Jacksonville Jaguars claimed Kyle Love (Patriots) off waivers Thursday, May 16.
May 16, 10:23 AM The Jacksonville Jaguars released RB Montell Owens.
May 15, 08:13 PM Updating a previous report, the New England Patriots released DT Kyle Love Wednesday, May 15, two weeks after having been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. 'Naturally, we are disappointed that the Patriots decided to part ways with Kyle, especially in light of the fact that a number of elite, professional athletes - both Type 1, which is known to be far more difficult to manage than Type 2 diabetes - have had very successful careers in professional football, hockey, baseball, and basketball,' the agent for Love said.
May 15, 05:13 PM The New England Patriots released DT Kyle Love Wednesday, May 15.
May 15, 02:53 PM Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley said he expects the competition between QBs Blaine Gabbert and Chad Henne will become more clear once the team puts pads on during training camp because the coaches can see how they perform during certain situations.
May 15, 02:53 PM Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley said DE Jason Babin (knee) and DT Roy Miller (knee) did not participate in organized team activities Tuesday, May 14, because of knee injuries.
May 15, 11:13 AM Jacksonville Jaguars QBs Blaine Gabbert and Chad Henne are splitting first-team reps evenly in OTAs.

Fantasy Impact: Not a surprise. This position is wide open.
May 14, 05:13 PM The Jacksonville Jaguars claimed DL Brandon Deaderick (Patriots) off waivers from New England Patriots and waived WR Cole McKenzie Tuesday, May 14.
May 13, 08:03 PM Jacksonville Jaguars WR Justin Blackmon has met with head coach Gus Bradley and general manager David Caldwell after getting suspended for the first four games of the 2013 season. Blackmon has been a student in the team's facility since the suspension, and the team still believes in him.

Fantasy Impact: Blackmon has plenty of upside but needs to get his act together off the field.
May 13, 05:03 PM The New England Patriots have signed undrafted free-agent OL R.J. Mattes (North Carolina State). Terms of the contract were not disclosed. In a corresponding move, the team released DE Brandon Deaderick.
May 13, 02:53 PM Jacksonville Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew (foot) said he is making progress in his rehab from foot surgery. He was able to run at 75 percent Monday, May 13.

Fantasy Impact: He'll be ready for the start of the season but you have to wonder if he'll be able to hold up.
May 13, 02:53 PM Jacksonville Jaguars WR Ace Sanders (groin) and DT Roy Miller (undisclosed) did not participate in the organized team activities Monday, May 13. Both were held out as a precaution.
May 08, 04:03 PM Jacksonville Jaguars CB Marcus Trufant is not expected to be one of the starting cornerbacks this season but probably will compete for playing time in the team's defensive subpackages.
