Williams was the starter much of the season but his numbers weren't too impressive in that role, catching just 18 passes in 12 games. He broke his ankle at the end of the season and needed surgery, missing the last two games. Williams had more than 50 yards in a game just once all last year. He failed to live up to his first season with the Seahawks, struggling like he did earlier in his career. Williams will get a chance to compete for the starting job this season but isn't likely to win that spot after last season. He is likely to be the No. 3 or 4 receiver for the Seahawks. Williams doesn't have much speed or big-play ability, but can be a top-notch possession receiver. He uses his big frame well to create space and make plays. Williams isn't much of a red-zone option, though, which is a surprise considering his size (five touchdowns in five seasons).

FANTASY OUTLOOK

Williams was released by the Seahawks before the start of training camp. He'll have a hard time finding work at this point of his career.

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said Saturday, July 28, that former WR Mike X. Williams had 'topped out what he could do here,' and that it was 'time to move on.' Williams was released July 13.
Fantasy Impact: Williams is likely done in the NFL.

The Seattle Seahawks released WR Mike X. Williams Friday, July 13, and as always in the NFL, it was mostly a business decision. Williams' contract included base salaries of $3 million and $3.4 million in 2012 and 2013, plus $150,000 annual weight clauses. In addition, Williams was also due a $15,625 roster bonus for every game he was active for a total of $187,500, plus a $150,000 workout bonus.

The Seattle Seahawks have 13 wide receivers currently on their roster. WRs Phil Bates, Kris Durham, Jermaine Kearse, Cameron Kenney, Ricardo Lockette, Charly Martin and Lavasier Tuinei are trying to unseat veterans Deon Butler, Ben Obomanu or Mike X. Williams for a spot on the 53-man roster.

The team kept six receivers on their 53-man roster last season, as well as 2007 and 2008. They kept five receivers in 2006, 2009 and 2010.
