Davis had one of his least productive seasons to date, catching just 41 passes on 61 targets. It broke a streak of three straight seasons with at least 90 targets. Davis just wasn't a big part of the offense most weeks, serving as a decoy or a blocker. He topped 50 yards just four times all season. The positive was his big showing during the 49ers playoff run, having 100-yard games two of three games. He was a bigger part of the offense, which could be a sign of things to come for 2013 but nothing is guaranteed for Davis. He has 900-plus yards three of the last four seasons and at least five scores all four of those seasons. Davis has the speed of a receiver, but the size of a tight end. He is a great athlete, making a ton of plays with the ball in his hands as well as making the tough catch in key situations. He is a big mismatch for the opposition.

FANTASY OUTLOOK

Davis has a ton of ability but he disappears too much to be considered an elite fantasy tight end. He can still produce like one with the chances but has some concerns after last season. He isn't a sure thing to rebound. We would take him as a low-end No. 1 and get some decent insurance as a backup. He is a good buy-low candidate, though, especially if you think he can build on his big playoff run. If all goes well for him, he could get around 60 receptions for 900 yards and seven touchdowns.

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis has bought into the team's philosophy that they will throw to the receiver or tight end with the most advantageous coverage, according to offensive coordinator Greg Roman. Davis acknowledged when he first entered the NFL he was all about himself and his numbers. However, now he is just happy to be on the field even if he isn't catching passes. 'I'm not worried about the statistics, because those things will come,' Davis said. Davis only had six catches for 61 yards during the team's final six regular-season games, but he has caught six passes for 150 yards and a touchdown on 11 targets in two playoff games this year.

San Francisco 49ers TE Vernon Davis had five receptions for 106 yards and a touchdown in the NFC Championship Game. Davis had previously struggled to connect with QB Colin Kaepernick. He had one touchdown catch since Kaepernick took over as starting quarterback in Week 11, and had just one or fewer catches in six of his first eight games with Kaepernick starting.

'It is a different feeling for me because it's been a tough season as far as just the feeling of being involved,' Davis said. 'To me, it's not a bad thing, because it's something I had to get used to this year. Each and every season in the past, I'm used to helping the team where I'm just catching balls and things like that. This year's been a little different.'
