Smith will compete for the top backup job this season. He has a chance to move up with a strong showing in camp and preseason action. Smith still has work to do to be a competent NFL quarterback, but he has some ability. Smith has good size for the position and a plus arm. He needs to improve his accuracy and learn to read defenses much better if he ever hopes to be an NFL starter, which doesn't seem likely.

Tennessee Titans QB Rusty Smith is having a strong training camp, according to head coach Mike Munchak. He has led the team in passer rating in each of the team's first two preseason games. 'Rusty has had a good camp,' Munchak said. 'He has been good the last couple of years, with how he has done with the offense and in the preseason and in practice.'

'We're not looking for a guy that's not capable of starting and winning games for us. 'He's still got all the tools. I think he's a young man that has a chance to play in the league for a number of years. He might not be a starter, but he could be a pretty darn good backup for a while.
