Williams suffered his second straight season-ending injury last year, suffering a fractured shoulder in Week 5. The good news is this latest injury isn't quite as serious to return from, so he should be just fine for the start of 2013. The bad news is Williams didn't play well before getting injured. He had double-digit carries four of five games and topped 35 yards just one of those games. Williams averaged just 2.8 yards per carry. But in fairness, the Cardinals were awful offensively last season and the offensive line was pretty bad, so Williams was at a disadvantage with his chances. The Cardinals remain high on Williams going forward, though. He'll be given first crack at the starter's job for this coming season but has competition in Rashard Mendenhall for the job. Williams is a big-play back capable of taking it to the house every time he touches the ball. He makes plays happen in space. He also runs with some power, though, and has good vision. Williams has a lot of ability but needs to show he can stay healthy and produce in a prominent role.

FANTASY OUTLOOK

Two straight injury-plagued seasons will cause his stock to drop this season, making him a good buy-low candidate. He has obvious upside if he can win the starting job. The Cardinals running attack should be better with a new coaching staff in place. Don't count on huge numbers for Williams but he can get around 1,000 total yards and six or so touchdowns if all goes well for him.

Arizona Cardinals general manager Steve Keim said the team is expecting big things from RB Ryan Williams. 'We watched him against Philadelphia,' Keim said, 'We watched him against New England, his lateral quickness, his natural run skills, his avoidability is something he brings to the table. Plus he's a three-down back. We're expecting big things out of Ryan moving forward.'
Fantasy Impact: Williams is going to be given first shot at the starter's job in 2013.

Arizona Cardinals RB Ryan Williams (knee, shoulder) is confident he can make his way back from a second season-ending injury in as many years in the NFL. His rookie season ended when he ruptured his right patella tendon in the preseason, and his second season ended after the fifth game when he suffered a coracoids process fracture to his left shoulder in a game against the St. Louis Rams. He admitted Tuesday, Feb. 12, that he is worried about his spot on the roster. 'Who wouldn't?,' Williams asked.
Fantasy Impact: He has a lot to prove this offsesaon. Nothing is guaranteed for Williams going forward.

Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians is reportedly a big fan of RB Ryan Williams, and he lit up when speaking about the tailback's ability Friday, Jan. 18. Both Arians and Williams are Virginia Tech alumni.
Fantasy Impact: If he can stay healthy, we think Williams can be the No. 1 back in this offense.

The Arizona Cardinals lost RB Ryan Williams (shoulder) to season-ending Injured Reserve, and there are rumors flying around about potential targets either through free agency or trade. One name that makes sense is New Orleans Saints RB Chris Ivory through trade, or former Cardinals RB and current free-agent Tim Hightower (Redskins). However, the latter is unlikely, as he is still not all the way back from a knee issue.

Arizona Cardinals RB William Powell received more playing time in Week 4 than RB Ryan Williams because the team used the no-huddle offense at times during the game. Powell is a part of the no-huddle package while Williams is not part of the package at this point because of his development.
Fantasy Impact: We wouldn't get too concerned from this. Williams is still the back to use in Arizona right now.
