Houshmandzadeh caught on with the Raiders last season and got a little work in a reserve role with the team. He caught 11 passes in nine games for Oakland. He has 42 receptions the last two seasons after having 70-plus catches six straight seasons. At age 34, Houshmandzadeh might be done in the NFL. His best days are clearly behind him. He was once a top receiver but is nothing more than a reserve at this stage of his career. When he was on his game, Houshmandzadeh was one of the best possession receivers in the league. Houshmandzadeh still has good hands and runs solid routes, but lacks burst and playmaking ability.

Oakland Raiders WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh racked up six receptions for 52 yards in the Week 15 game against the Detroit Lions. Fellow WR Chaz Schilens managed just two catches for 14 yards, while WR Denarius Moore (foot) had two grabs for just 13 yards.
Fantasy Impact: It was one of his best showings of the season but still not enough to really help fantasy teams.

Oakland Raiders WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh is already making an impression despite just joining the team Tuesday, Nov. 1. 'He understands concepts, he understands schemes, alignments, all the little things a lot of receivers overlook,' QB Carson Palmer said Friday, Nov. 4. 'He's a student of the game, and it's going to be a really big help, especially for these young guys to have him around. Just in the first day, they were kind of taken aback by how much he knows.'
Fantasy Impact: We still expect Houshmandzadeh to have little impact on the field. He proved he was about done last season.

'With the guys they have, they're all fast,' Houshmandzadeh said, 'but they don't really have a guy who can work the middle of the field and can run routes. So I can bring that to the table. With those guys on the outside and the way Carson throws the ball and his ability to understand what a defense is trying to do, we can be really good if we put this thing together real fast.'

Oakland Raiders QB Carson Palmer said WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh will add a lot of leadership and competitiveness to the receiving corps. 'T.J.'s always been a tremendous competitor,' Palmer said. 'He has a chip on his shoulder. He doesn't ever want to be covered, doesn't ever want to drop the ball, he doesn't ever want to lose a game and he'll do whatever it takes to make sure those things don't happen. But he's consistent. He's really another quarterback on the field. He knows more about offensive and defensive football than any non-quarterback I've ever been around.'

Oakland Raiders head coach Hue Jackson said QB Carson Palmer had nothing to do with the recent signing of WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh. Jackson has familiarity with Houshmandzadeh from their days with the Cincinnati Bengals, and Jackson likes that he has the ability to play the slot. Houshmandzadeh is expected to play in Week 9 versus the Denver Broncos.
