Charlie Morton Aug 2 11:20am ET

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Charlie Morton was solid on the mound, but was saddled with the loss on Sunday. He went six innings, three hits allowed, two earned runs, and six strikeouts in the 2-1 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers. The Braves offense didn't help Morton, but at least fantasy managers got a solid outing from him. Morton has posted a 3.69 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 140/42 K/BB ratio over 22 starts this season. He'll take that into his next matchup versus the Washington Nationals, which is a favorable one for Morton.

Austin Riley Aug 2 11:20am ET

Atlanta Braves outfielder Austin Riley was seemingly the only offense for this team on Sunday. He went 2-for-4 with an RBI during Sunday's close to 2-1 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers. Riley slapped an RBI single in the sixth inning off righty John Curtiss as the only run for this offense. It was a frustrating day at the plate for the Braves, but they'll get another chance. Riley has been tremendous with the bat over the last few weeks. He has turned himself into a must-start fantasy player.

Matt Olson Aug 2 11:10am ET

Oakland Athletics first baseman Matt Olson went 1-for-3 with a three-run homer to help power the A's to a win in Anaheim on Sunday. New Athletics Starling Marte, Yan Gomes, and Josh Harrison all made their presence felt in the game, but it was old reliable Olson who put the A's on the board by launching a homer off of lefty Reid Detmers, Olson's 16th homer off of left-handed pitching this season. Olson has been incredible this season as he's got 28 homers supported by elite batted-ball metrics such as a 14.6% barrel rate and a .542 expected slugging percentage. Olson is a must-start option in all fantasy leagues with matchups against San Diego and Texas next up for the lefty slugger.

Charlie Culberson Aug 2 11:10am ET

Texas Rangers infielder Charlie Culberson was a tough player to get out during Sunday's game versus the Seattle Mariners. He went 3-for-4 at the plate with three singles during the 4-3 win on Sunday. Those three hits pushed his batting average to .237, but still isn't at a respectable mark. He also has three home runs and 17 RBI this season as a bench option for the Rangers. It was a nice day at the plate for Culberson, but he can continue to be ignored in fantasy formats.

    From RotoBaller

Jake Diekman Aug 2 11:00am ET

Oakland Athletics relief pitcher Jake Diekman pitched a clean eighth inning with two strikeouts in a win over the Angels on Sunday. Diekman has been strong in a setup role for Oakland as he's got eight holds, a 3.18 ERA, a 1.34 WHIP, and 55 strikeouts in 39 2/3 innings. His 32% strikeout rate should keep him pitching in high-leverage situations as he's the best reliever in the Oakland bullpen when the A's need a strikeout. Right-hander Lou Trivino gets the bulk of the saves, but Diekman has seven saves on the season as he will get the occasional save chance if the opposition has lefties due up. Diekman is a must-roster reliever in leagues that reward holds and has deep league value for his strikeout upside from the RP spot.

Mike Foltynewicz Aug 2 10:50am ET

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Mike Foltynewicz finally put together a decent outing after getting smacked around his last few starts. He went five innings, three hits allowed, two earned runs, three walks, and one strikeouts versus the Seattle Mariners on Sunday. Both of his runs came with the bases loaded in the second inning. However, Foltynewicz was able to work out of trouble and help get the 4-3 victory. The right-hander will take a 6.00 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, and 78 strikeouts over 111 innings into his next start against the Oakland Athletics. He won't be a reliable streaming choice for that one and can be ignored in fantasy formats going forward.

    From RotoBaller

Jonah Heim Aug 2 10:50am ET

Texas Rangers catcher Jonah Heim is looking like prime Babe Ruth at the plate over the weekend. The 26-year-old hit a pair of home runs including a walkoff winner in the 10th inning on Saturday. Heim returned as the DH for Sunday's contest and continued his clutch ways at the plate. He went 2-for-4 with a walkoff homer in the ninth off righty Erik Swanson. Heim is slashing .227/.268/.386 with eight homers and 21 RBI this season. He isn't a reliable fantasy option, but at least he's having the best weekend of his life.

Alex Bregman Aug 2 10:40am ET

Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman (hamstring) was removed early during Sunday's rehab game with Triple-A Sugar Land. It sounds like he was removed from the game as a precaution. Bregman should return in a day or two, but this could push back his return date to the big league roster. The hope was that Bregman could return to the Astros on August 5, but we'll see if that happens. He was originally on the rehab assignment for a quad issue, but this might set him back a few more days.

    From RotoBaller

Yan Gomes Aug 2 10:30am ET

Oakland Athletics catcher Yan Gomes made a good first impression on his new club by mashing a two-run homer to help beat the Angels on Sunday. Gomes added an RBI single in the contest and helped rookie pitcher Daulton Jefferies get past some early jitters and earn the win in the contest. Gomes, a veteran catcher with World Series experience with the Nationals, is a perfect fit for the A's, but his fantasy appeal is limited playing behind Sean Murphy. Gomes is a good hitter for a backup catcher and is usually a solid punt-play in DFS when he's in the lineup, but he won't get enough playing time to justify a roster spot in redraft leagues as long as Murphy is healthy.

    From RotoBaller

Josh James Aug 2 10:30am ET

Houston Astros pitcher Josh James (hip) has been activated off the 60-day injured list and optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land. He was already with the organization for a rehab assignment, so he won't have to go anywhere. The 28-year-old righty has been sidelined all season due to a hip issue. He'll get some more work in the minors before likely joining the Astros at some point this season. James is a versatile pitcher who can be used in multiple roles. However, it's unlikely he holds any fantasy value in 2021. In a corresponding move, righty Ralph Garza Jr. has been designated for assignment. He held a 4.09 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 14/7 K/BB ratio over 11 innings with the Astros this season.

    From RotoBaller

Huascar Ynoa Aug 2 10:20am ET

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Huascar Ynoa (hand) was not sharp during his rehab start in Single-A Rome on Sunday. He only pitched two innings, eight hits allowed, six runs allowed, while striking out two. The most important thing is that Ynoa is healthy and back on the mound. He has been sidelined since mid-May due to a fractured hand. Ynoa holds a 3.02 ERA with 50 strikeouts through 44.7 innings with the Braves this season. He could be someone worth stashing for a fantasy playoff run, but we'll see how Ynoa progresses.

    From RotoBaller

Daulton Jefferies Aug 2 10:10am ET

Oakland Athletics starting pitcher Daulton Jefferies allowed three runs across five innings to pick up the victory over the Angels on Sunday. Jefferies was making his first start of the season, and his first with fans in attendance as his only prior MLB game was in the 2020 season. Jefferies was on the ropes early as he allowed the Halos to plate three by the end of the second inning. He settled in after that, retiring eight of the last ten batters he faced. Jefferies, the number four prospect for Oakland, is not guaranteed another start with manager Bob Melvin saying that will depend on how fast James Kaprielian (shoulder) can return. Jefferies is an intriguing add in keeper leagues and has streamer appeal if he does get another start next week.

    From RotoBaller

Starling Marte Aug 2 10:10am ET

Oakland Athletics outfielder Starling Marte ran wild on Sunday, swiping three bags to help the A's earn a series win in Anaheim. Marte has fit right in with his new club as he's reached base eight times in 19 plate appearances with three runs scored and four stolen bases batting second for a strong A's lineup. Marte's fantasy stock is on the rise in this Oakland lineup as he's batting behind on-base machine Mark Canha and ahead of slugger Matt Olson meaning Marte should have significantly more chances to score fantasy points than he had in Miami. He should be universally started in fantasy with matchups against the Padres and Rangers this week.

    From RotoBaller

Amed Rosario Aug 2 8:10am ET

Cleveland Indians shortstop Amed Rosario went 2-for-4 with two doubles in Sunday's 2-1 loss to the Chicago White Sox. Rosario has cooled off since his hot June, but is still hitting .280 over his previous 50 at-bats and is posting a 1.040 OPS over his previous 19 at-bats. Fantasy managers that need help at the shortstop position could do much worse than adding Rosario to their lineup.

    From RotoBaller

Cal Quantrill Aug 2 8:00am ET

Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Cal Quantrill threw six innings of one-run ball while walking four and striking out six. Quantrill still managed to post a quality start despite walking four hitters in six innings and also had a season-high six strikeouts. Quantrill has now allowed one earned run or fewer in each of his previous four starts and is certainly worthy of a speculative add moving forward. His next start will come this weekend at home against the Detroit Tigers.

    From RotoBaller

Brad Keller Aug 2 8:00am ET

Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Brad Keller (back) was removed from Sunday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays due to a back injury. Keller said he felt the injury right at the start of the game. He said, "As soon as I stepped on the mound and threw a couple pitches, it just kind of locked up on me." He went on to pitch three innings and he allowed seven hits, no walks and three earned runs while striking out three. The team said that Keller's removal from the game was precautionary. So as of now, it doesn't sound like a stint on the injured list is likely. His next start is scheduled for Saturday against the St. Louis Cardinals.

    From RotoBaller

Myles Straw Aug 2 8:00am ET

Cleveland Indians outfielder Myles Straw went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Sunday's 2-1 loss to the Chicago White Sox. Straw was batting eighth in this one and managed to take White Sox opener Jimmy Lambert deep in the top of the third inning. Straw was recently acquired by the Indians at the trade deadline and has batted leadoff and eight in his first two games. He certainly provides value in terms of speed as he has 17 stolen bases on the season. Look for him to continue to steal at a high clip moving forward with the Indians.

    From RotoBaller

Matt Wisler Aug 2 7:00am ET

Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Matt Wisler allowed two hits while striking out one over a scoreless inning to earn the save during Sunday's 3-2 win over the Red Sox. He entered the game in the ninth inning and retired 3-of-5 batters faced to earn his first career save. The Rays turned to Wisler and not Andrew Kittredge for Tampa Bay's first save opportunity since trading incumbent closer Diego Castillo to the Seattle Mariners. Nick Anderson (elbow) and Pete Fairbanks (shoulder) are currently on the injured list but are expected to return in the next few weeks. Tampa Bay will use a closer by committee approach until Fairbanks or Anderson are able to return, but fantasy managers desperate for saves can add Wisler in the short term. The 28-year-old owns a 3.80 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, and 55 strikeouts over 42 2/3 innings in 2021.

    From RotoBaller

Shane McClanahan Aug 2 6:10am ET

Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Shane McClanahan (5-4) allowed one earned run on four hits and two walks while striking out seven across six innings, earning the win during Sunday's 3-2 victory over the Red Sox. The 24-year-old limited the Red Sox offense to four hits, and his only mistake was surrendering a solo shot to Hunter Renfroe in the fourth inning. He threw 88 pitches, landing 62 for strikes. The southpaw has now allowed three earned runs or less in each of his last nine starts. McClanahan has been terrific in 2021, owning 3.74 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and a 91:27 K: BB across 77 innings. He will look to keep the momentum going in Saturday's away start against the Orioles.

    From RotoBaller

Brandon Lowe Aug 2 6:00am ET

Tampa Bay Rays infielder Brandon Lowe went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer during Sunday's 3-2 win over the Red Sox. He took Nick Pivetta deep in the bottom of the third inning for his 23rd long ball of the season. The 27-year-old leads the Rays in home runs and owns a career-high 12.9 BB percentage this season. Lowe is slashing .224/.338/.474 across 400 plate appearances in 2021. The Rays infielder doesn't contribute in batting average but is a steady producer in homers, RBI, and runs scored, making Lowe a solid option in all league formats.
