In 420 trips to the plate, Walker struck out 104 times. However, the right-handed hitter should have a full-time role in the Cardinals lineup in 2024.

San Diego Padres starting pitcher Pedro Avila fanned seven White Sox batters in over five shutout innings to win 2-1 on Sunday. Despite the Padres being out of the postseason race, Avila gave up only three hits in the game, all base hits. He also didn't surrender a walk in the contest. The 26-year-old, in this year's campaign, posted a record of 2-2 with a 3.22 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP in 50 1/3 innings of work.

Pittsburgh Pirates closer David Bednar logged his 39th save in his team's last regular season game. Bednar shut down the Marlins as Pittsburgh picked up the 3-0 victory on Sunday. The 28-year-old right-hander was phenomenal in 2023, posting a record of 3-3, an ERA of 2.00 and a 1.10 WHIP in 67/1 innings of work. He converted on 39 of 42 save attempts while striking out 80 opposing batters.

In Sunday's win against the Mets, Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Brandon Marsh helped lead his team to victory, hitting a home run and driving in four runs. With the home run, Marsh ends the regular season with a career-high 12 homers. The 25-year-old also had a career-best 60 RBI in 404 trips to the plate. He was consistent most of the year, posting a slash line of 277/.372/.458. As a left-handed batter, Marsh will be helpful against right-handed pitching in the postseason.

Seattle Mariners starting pitcher George Kirby threw six shutout innings in a 1-0 win over the Texas Rangers on Sunday. Kirby allowed three hits and zero walks, striking out seven. He moved to 13-10 on the season with a 3.35 ERA. The young righty hovered around a top-15 starting pitcher most of this season. Kirby finished with an ADP of 117, making him one of the best values in drafts this preseason. That number will surely shrink next year, as he should be a hot commodity for fantasy managers.

Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes is absent from the starting lineup for Sunday's season finale against the Miami Marlins. In all likelihood, Hayes will finish the 2023 season with a .272/.310/.452 batting line to go along with 15 home runs, 63 RBI, and 10 stolen bases across 489 at-bats (123 games). The 15 jacks more than double his previous career-high of seven and his .272 batting average is his highest season finish since the shortened 2020 campaign in which he hit .376 in just 24 games. He's never quite lived up to his potential but a strong finish to 2023 will make him an intriguing option in next year's fantasy drafts. Jared Triolo is starting at third base and is batting second against Miami.

The D-Backs clinched a playoff spot on Saturday so it makes sense to rest their 23-year-old All-Star. Carroll is all but guaranteed the NL Rookie of the Year after putting up a ridiculous .285/.362/.506 batting line with 25 home runs, 76 RBI, 54 stolen bases, and a league-leading 10 triples over 565 at-bats. Jake McCarthy is starting in right field and batting second in Carroll's place against Cristian Javier and the Astros.
