Tampa Bay Rays OF Randy Arozarena (quadriceps) is back in the lineup on Wednesday, Sept. 27.
Tampa Bay Rays 3B Yandy Diaz (hamstring) is not in the lineup on Wednesday, Sept. 27.
Detroit Tigers outfielder Akil Baddoo is back in the starting lineup Wednesday night versus the Kansas City Royals and right-hander Jonathan Bowlan, who is making his MLB debut this evening. Baddoo didn't start Tuesday's series-opening 6-3 victory but did enter the game as a pinch-hitter and launched a mammoth 443-foot homer on the first pitch he saw in the eighth inning. Starts haven't been as consistent for Baddoo after prospect Parker Meadows was promoted to the big leagues and he has hit just .196 with two homers, one double, and a .608 OPS across 50 plate appearances in the month of September. He will take on a right-hander in Bowlan who has worked to a 5.91 ERA across 102 innings between Double-A and Triple-A this season.

New York Mets OF Starling Marte (groin) will not play again this season, manager Buck Showalter said on Wednesday, Sept. 27.
Cincinnati Reds INF Kevin Newman was released on Wednesday, Sept. 27.
Kansas City Royals pitcher Jonathan Bowlan is set to make his big-league debut Wednesday night against the division-rival Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park in Detroit. The right-hander has largely worked as a starter between Double-A and Triple-A this season, tossing a 7.20 ERA across 10 appearances (nine starts) at Double-A before working to a 5.24 ERA across 14 outings (12 starts) at the Triple-A level. A 2018 second-round pick, the 26-year-old owns a career 4.69 ERA and 1.35 WHIP across 80 minor-league appearances (74 starts) spanning 362 1/3 innings pitched. He takes on a Tigers offense that ranks 29th with a .293 wOBA versus right-handed pitching on the season.

Texas Rangers pitcher Dane Dunning will aim to get his team a step closer to playoff baseball when he gets the ball Wednesday on the road against the Los Angeles Angels. Dunning enters Wednesday's contest sporting a healthy 3.88 ERA across 24 starts and 33 appearances but it hasn't exactly been a smooth ride. His 4.44 FIP and 4.59 SIERA suggest some regression could be on the horizon while Dunning has allowed 16 runs over his last four starts spanning 21 2/3 innings of work. At the same time, he has kept his team in ball games by allowing three earned runs or fewer in eight of his last 11 starts. Consistency has been an issue but a dynamite Rangers offense has helped steer Dunning to 11 wins on the season, matching his total from his first three seasons in the big leagues.

Cincinnati Reds first baseman/designated hitter Joey Votto is not in the starting lineup Wednesday night versus the Cleveland Guardians and right-hander Shane Bieber. The potential Hall of Famer drew a trio of walks and scored a run across five plate appearances in Tuesday's 11-7 come-from-behind win over the Guardians but will yield DH duties to Jake Fraley on Wednesday. Votto's season has been interrupted by multiple shoulder injuries as he's hitting .203 with 14 home runs and a .750 OPS across 63 appearances while drawing walks at a quality 11.2% rate. However, he is hitting just .187 with a .652 OPS in the second half after coming out of the gate white-hot following a late start due to shoulder surgery last August.

Boston Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers is not in the starting lineup Wednesday versus the Tampa Bay Rays and right-hander Tyler Glasnow. The all-world third baseman has been in a funk of late, recording just a pair of singles and two runs scored to account for all of his damage over his last six games and 23 trips to the plate. He has also drawn just two walks against eight strikeouts in that time, including three punchouts in an 0-for-5 effort on Tuesday. For the season, Devers has still raked to the tune of a .272 average with 33 home runs, four stolen bases, and an .857 OPS across 149 appearances. Bobby Dalbec will take over at third base and hit seventh against Glasnow at Fenway Park on Wednesday night.

Houston Astros left-hander Framber Valdez will look to put his team on his back Wednesday when he takes the mound for a crucial start versus the Seattle Mariners. Valdez's Astros are just a half-game ahead of the Mariners for the third and final Wild Card spot in the American League after Seattle gained ground with a 6-2 win on Tuesday night. The 29-year-old has largely been one of the more reliable arms in the big leagues this season with a 3.39 ERA, 3.68 SIERA, and a solid 17.9% K-BB% in his 30 starts on the season. However, Valdez was touched up for seven runs (six earned) across just 5 1/3 outings his last time out at home versus the Royals. He also surrendered six earned runs on 10 hits across five innings his last time out against the Mariners.

Arizona Diamondbacks OF Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (shoulder) was scratched from the lineup on Wednesday, Sept. 27, because of left shoulder discomfort.
Miami Marlins RHP Johnny Cueto will start Game 2 of the doubleheader on Wednesday, Sept. 27.
Miami Marlins second baseman Luis Arraez (ankle) is not in the starting lineup for Game 1 of Wednesday's straight doubleheader with the New York Mets and left-hander Joey Lucchesi. The 26-year-old injured his ankle when he slipped on some dugout steps during Saturday's game against the Brewers and has not appeared since. In line for an NL Batting Title in his first season in the senior circuit, Arraez is hitting .353 with 10 home runs, three stolen bases, and an .860 OPS across 616 plate appearances on the season. The injury comes at the worst of times for the Fish as they are currently just a half-game back of the Chicago Cubs for the final Wild Card spot in the National League with five games to go.

Los Angeles Angels INF Kyren Paris (thumb) underwent surgery to repair a torn ligament in his thumb and is expected to be ready for spring training, manager Phil Nevin said on Tuesday, Sept. 26.
Miami Marlins 2B Luis Arraez (ankle) is not in the lineup for Game 1 of the doubleheader on Wednesday, Sept. 27.
Philadelphia Phillies 1B Rhys Hoskins (knee) is taking batting practice and running the bases but is unlikely to return during the postseason but has a shot to return if the Phillies make it to the World Series, manager Rob Thomson said on Wednesday, Sept. 27.
Los Angeles Angels RHP Chase Silseth (concussion) is expected to be activated off the injured list and start on Friday, Sept. 29.
Arizona Diamondbacks LHP Justin Martinez was recalled from the minors on Wednesday, Sept. 27. In addition, RHP Zach Davies was designated for assignment.
Arizona Diamondbacks LHP Justin Martinez was recalled from the minors on Wednesday, Sept. 27. In addition, RHP Zach Davies was designated for assignment.
Colorado Rockies rookie right-hander Noah Davis will make his final start of the season on Wednesday against the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers. Davis has had a rough go of it in seven appearances (five starts) in 2023, surrendering 26 runs (25 earned) on 36 hits (five home runs) while walking 13 and striking out 22 in 25 2/3 innings of work. In his five starts, the 26-year-old has a 6.97 ERA, giving up 17 runs (16 earned) on 25 hits (four homers) while walking 12 and striking out 18 in 20 2/3 innings. Even though the Dodgers have already locked up the National League West, Davis is not a recommended fantasy streamer against LA at hitter-friendly Coors Field on Wednesday.
