Commissioner Note
Good Afternoon- I wanted to share an update on the future of the league at least as far as I’m concerned.
I have been playing fantasy football for about 40 years and over 30 years in this league alone. At one point I had 6 teams the same NFL season which I do not recommend. I loved fantasy football for a long time. I enjoyed making fun of my friends during the draft and having a reason to care about a stupid Monday night game between the Bengals and Redskins:-<
I loved when we all took our backup QB just to stick it to Walter who didn’t have a QB yet. I loved when Pat had about 15 Labatt Ice beers and kept taking kickers and I liked when Jim tried to draft Keenan Allen in the third and again in the 6th round. I liked when Tim said to Matt at the draft, “when was the last time you did anything in this league?” Matt had won the league the previous year. I even liked Joel and Snake showing up every year without a cheat sheet or pen.
Over the last few years my enjoyment has fallen off. I’m sick of being upset about a random kicker making or missing a field goal. I’m tired of the injuries and frankly I’m tired of the political direction of the NFL so I would love to watch less of football and not have to care what is happening.
With all that said as far as I’m concerned 2025 will be my last year in or running the league, I have spoken to a few people about this before today so this won’t be a surprise to them.
I don’t want to pull the rung out from under people so I will stick around next year to run the league. If somebody wants to take it over and keep it running I would be happy to work with them to help make a smooth transition. If nobody steps up then 2025 will be the last year of the Pink Umbrella fantasy league.
I appreciate everyone for playing and making it so much fun. I also appreciate the sportsmanship of the league. We have had weird scenarios where for example many years ago an idiot in the league the first couple years decided to try and sabotage the league by turning in an absurd lineup the last week of the regular season. The idiot in question was already out of the playoff contention and of course removed from the league but his lineup had the chance to affect who made playoffs that year. I called Mike Decory who was facing the bad lineup and explained the situation. He immediately said that he supported me correcting the lineup because he didn’t want to make the playoffs because of an inappropriate lineup.. We have had other situations where people were gracious and wanted the right thing done even it if hurt them. Every time the people currently in this league did the right thing making it easier for me to run the league and I greatly appreciate it.
I would like to thank Matt Fetzner for helping run the league as well.
Lastly, I have talked about meeting out for beers the last couple of drafts. I’m on the road most weeks so I thought the week of Thanksgiving might be a good night to meet out. I will send a reminder as we get closer but I was thinking of meeting at Hooligans Monday night November 25th around 7:30 for the game and beers if anyone is interested.
And finally fuck Joe Burrow and the shitty Redskins defense!
