Hey Gang,

How bout them Eagles; feel like i jumped back a couple decades watching a team finding a way to lose....but good game. Amazing how all those months of offseason studying would yield Derek Carr as the #1 QB (and sitting on the bench🤦), Alvin Kamara as your #1 RB, and lordy lordy, Rashid Shaheed as the #1 WR (well, yours truly kind of saw that one🙂, although maybe not in the #1 spot, lol) - I challenge anyone to say they saw the Saints in this light....gotta love this game.

Congrats to the Cobras for winning Week Two Contest with Kyler Murray's 42.70 pts. Week 3 contest is for the starting RB with the highest score...good luck.

Hey Gang,

Bad commissioner here; i just noticed i had not reinstated the starting roster requirements (1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 SFlex, 1 Flex). I have to set to zero for offseason to allow moves.

Only one roster didn't have the roster requirements met (did not impact outcome). I've updated the rules so shouldn't be an issue moving forward.

I know I'm ready to jump off the bridge...lol

Hey Gang,

I'm in agreement that big changes shouldn't be made at this juncture; but theoretically, i can redo the schedule (i haven't redone it from last year); i can at least keep the play each team twice in division; then reset the random games; is that enough for this year? Definitely will look at all play, or some semblance, next year, sound okay?

Cheers

Little Bunny Foofoo. Sat Aug 24 3:57pm ET
I’m not huge on changes being made this close to season. But the schedule change to allow everyone to play each team once is basic enough. All others I feel need to be discussed after season ends for the next season. I guess changing division lineups isn’t that big a deal either. But we are not changing the format at this juncture. Meaning all play. We must stick to current format getting two matchups each week!
Can't stop Twerking..er Tweaking Sat Aug 24 3:50pm ET
With divisions it is tough to keep them even. One thing I’ve done in another league is basically reset every year based on previous years standings. So one division has say the 1/3/5/8/10/12 team from prior year and other had 2/4/6/7/9/11. Just food for thought.
Commissioner Sat Aug 24 7:37am ET

Prefer system that produces true champion at end of season. Head-to-head, divisions (whatever number), and playoffs are inherently flawed. All-play, with no playoffs, is one system that comes closest to producing true champion. My preference is All-play or All-play with playoffs (as with 12M). I am fine with 2-division, head-to-head (+ 50/50), playoffs format we've been using. If sticking with this, go with number of divisions that yields greatest parity. Would this be one division? If 2 divisions, commissioners have to come up with division breakdown that achieves most balance (based on their ranking of strength of each team - possibly based on previous year's final standings).

Crusaders Fri Aug 23 11:00pm ET

I'm all for improving the current landscape. But what we have in place is a time proven format that works very well. There is a nuance the occurs when playing "in division". Lineups are often tweaked based on the opponent. I get some managers play their favorite guys. But I'd like to think there are rosters with benches built to swap in guys to gain an edge on any given week based on standings. I vote keeping the current format and engage this topic for a possible revamp in 2025. Let's zoom it. 😀

Cobras Fri Aug 23 9:50pm ET

Whatever you guys agree to in desperation to gain an advantage against my team is okay with me! 😜

All kidding aside, my preference in no particular order would be:

         - Keep division format but random draw to reset division teams each season, or

         - All play with no division format

DonkeyPox Fri Aug 23 7:22pm ET
(divisions dont matter near as much)

3 division play - best teams may not be in play off contention.
DonkeyPox Fri Aug 23 7:22pm ET

only the best teams should make the playoffs. this can be significantly skewed if the league has uneven divisions and all the games are played inter-division.

my preference
1 all play - true all play like what is done in 12 monkey league. this is the best format to gaige team strength

2 all play - everyone plays everyone else at least once. still good, but you can still be 2nd top scorer that week and get a loss. not the best gauge of that week because you still beat 10 other teams

Can't stop Twerking..er Tweaking Fri Aug 23 6:11pm ET
I don’t mind the extra three games being in the division so the bulk of them are in division. I just think everyone should play everyone else once at least. But whatever yall decide.

I don’t care about keeping divisions or not keeping them. Though I’d vote for a random reset of divisions each year just to keep it interesting. If we keep same divisions AND don’t change the schedule to play teams then you may never ever play a certain team
Jumbo Fri Aug 23 6:10pm ET
Keep same format/divisions as last year.
Longneckers DB Fri Aug 23 4:13pm ET
I feel like with a Play all schedule, it should be wide open with top 6 making it in and top 2 getting byes. Otherwise, even though everyone is playing all the same teams if one division is better than another you can get some teams that don’t belong. If using divisions, the bulk of the games need to be played within the division to see who comes out on top.
Commissioner Fri Aug 23 3:59pm ET

Good input so far gang....keep in mind, our playoffs are set up for divisions, with top place in each division getting a bye. I think we could keep the same divisions, (or reset each year) have every one play each team in league once (11 games) then let the system set up 3 random games (irrelevant of division).

If the vote is to go to no divisions, than top two records would get bye, with same tie breakers we use now in divisions.

Again, doesn't really matter to me, but i will need to do some resetting of league settings and generate new schedule.

Commish

Longneckers DB Fri Aug 23 3:27pm ET
If we go to Play All, then I don’t think we should use divisions. I don’t care too much one way or another, but my preference if I have to vote is in this order.

1) Keep same format/divisions as last year
2) Play all with no divisions
Little Bunny Foofoo. Fri Aug 23 3:07pm ET
I agree play all teams once.
Aa for divisions. I say get rid of them. But don’t care about resetting each year.

Commissioner Fri Aug 23 3:00pm ET

Hi Zach,

Yes, i was just about to post saying i never reset the divisions or created a new schedule....if any of you can refresh my memory, did we decide to keep the same divisions every year, or change them up each year with new schedule?

I'm open to resetting divisions and changing game schedule format (currently, we play each division opponent twice and four non-division games).

Please vote if you want to have a random reset of divisions each year and if you would like to go to a "play all" schedule where you play every team in league once, then 3 random games.

Cheers

I prefer to stay at ten. And I’m saying that as someone who has painfully had to cut guys I like in these leagues. But when you have too many keepers it basically makes the draft only rookies. And in a league like that bad teams stay bad for a long time unless they get lucky

If we did expand keepers I’d like to decrease bench spots. That way people have some hard decisions during the season and there are actually good players on waivers.

Jumbo Mon Jul 29 7:14pm ET
I’m ok with 10. Jumbo.
Little Bunny Foofoo. Mon Jul 29 2:34pm ET
I do believe a rule change like 10 to 12 keepers needs to be made with way more notice. I’ll be honest. I am
Not a fan of more than ten. But would be open to it, especially if we open the number up to position limits. If we have 12 keepers. We need to address the limit on positions as well.
Cobras Mon Jul 29 12:26pm ET

Hi Mark,

In support of expanding to 12 keepers, I want to add:

  1. I don't believe it's too late to make the change. Only one team has cut down to 10 players and 2 of his cuts could easily be reinstated to his roster (if he elects to do so).
  2. I agree the two added keepers cuts down on the free agent pool however, we are only a 12 team league so the worst case scenario is an impact of 24 FA's taken out of the pool (of which most are support/backup/developing players).
  3. Although we are a hybrid league, we are also a Superflex league with a high scoring ceiling for QB's. Therefore all starting QB's and some backup/potential starting QB's are rostered and occupy on average 3 - 4 keeper slots per team.  I believe the weighting distribution for the QB position is too high under the current system and adding 2 keeper slots will give us more flexibility to hold on to key players in all of the other starting positions and/or allow for retaining players we believe are 1 - 2 seasons away from becoming a #1 position ranked player.

That's my take. Thanks!

Cobra-Kai

Commissioner Mon Jul 29 9:15am ET

Hey Art,

Interesting this is coming back up; in the pic below, you can see that originally, we discussed having 12 keepers, but decided in the kick off call to move to 10. Remember, this is a Hybrid Keeper/Dynasty league, not a true dynasty league. Keeping 12 player does dilute the free agency pool for draft.

I believe it is too late to make that kind of change now with all of the trades and draft pick maneuvering; i am open to hearing from everyone on your thoughts.

Cheers Gang,

Commish

Cobras Sun Jul 28 11:32pm ET
How about expanding keepers to 12? I think that is one needed rule change. Keeping only 10 players leaves almost no room to build a dynasty team when you must start 9.
