2024 RTSports Outlook

Godwin was slowed a little early in the season as he returned from his torn ACL, but quickly got up to speed and looked like his old self before the season was over. He actually set a career high in catches with 104. And he did this despite missing two games. Godwin was 18th overall in fantasy receiver scoring. Godwin had double-digit fantasy points all but one game. Godwin has 85-plus reception three of four seasons. Playing without Tom Brady is a concern gong forward for Godwin. He could see a decrease in targets with the Bucs not expected to throw quite as much this year. He remains an elite target in the prime of his career, though. Godwin is a big-play threat at receiver but turned into a top-notch possession receiver in recent seasons. He has top speed and a knack for running by defenders. His route running and hands are much improved since earlier in his career, moving into the elite category of NFL receivers. He can be slowed by injury at times, missing games each of the last four seasons.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Godwin might not reach his reception total of last year but can still have a really good season. He should be considered a top No. 2 for fantasy teams. His lack of scores holds him back a little. He scored just three touchdowns last year and has never reached double-digit scores. Look for around 90 receptions for 1,100 yards and seven touchdowns.

New Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen said that he sees wide receiver Chris Godwin moving back inside into the slot position in 2024. The Buccaneers got away from that last year with the thought that it may preserve him from a health standpoint. Godwin saw much less time in the slot in 2023 compared to the previous year, but the 27-year-old pass-catcher was still targeted a fair amount (130 times) by quarterback Baker Mayfield. Godwin just wasn't very efficient and finished with career-low averages of 4.9 receptions per game and 60.2 receiving yards per game. It may be slightly worse for Godwin's health, but a return to the slot should be good news overall for his fantasy value, especially if Mike Evans doesn't return in free agency.

Feb 6 1:33pm ET

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin is expected to play much more often in the slot in 2024, according to comments made by new offensive coordinator Liam Coen.

Fantasy Spin: While a return to the slot on more of a full-time basis does not mean Godwin should be expected to return to push for 100 catches again, it also does not rule it out. Coen is a product of the Sean McVay coaching tree and has seen his share of primary slot receivers have career years in that offense (Wan'Dale Robinson at Kentucky and Cooper Kupp, to name a couple). A more slot-heavy role should allow Godwin to be much more consistently productive in 2024, so he should be viewed as a high-upside WR3 at worst for now.

Jan 21 10:00pm ET

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin looked to be the top option for this offense during the month of December. However, Godwin quickly ceded his role as top wideout to Mike Evans in the playoffs. On Sunday, Godwin hauled in four of his eight targets for 40 yards in the loss to the Detroit Lions. It was a fitting end for Godwin who was non-explosive throughout most of the season. He managed to finish his season with 83 receptions for over 1,000 receiving yards, but only found the end zone twice. Evans is a free agent this offseason, which means Godwin could end up as the No. 1 option for Tampa Bay next season.

From RotoBaller

Jan 21 6:53pm ET

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin posted four receptions for 40 yards on eight targets in the NFC Divisional Round playoff game against the Detroit Lions.

From TheHuddle

Jan 19 10:00pm ET

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin has stepped up during the second half of the season. In fact, Godwin has registered 50 receiving yards or more in five of his last six games. Throughout most of the first half of the season, Godwin was playing second fiddle to fellow wideout Mike Evans. Now, Godwin is actually getting more involved in the offense. Last week, Godwin hauled in four of his five targets for 45 yards and a touchdown in the victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. Godwin has surprisingly found the end zone in two of his last three games. He has played well enough lately that the Bucs should continue to look his way during this weekend's game against the Detroit Lions.

From RotoBaller

Jan 19 4:23pm ET

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin (knee, personal) did not participate in practice Friday, Jan. 19, but is not on the injury report for the Divisional Round playoff game.

Fantasy Spin: Godwin should be able to handle his normal workload despite not doing much during practice this week. Fantasy players can check the inactive list for his official status, but he should be a starting option in all leagues.

From TheHuddle

Jan 18 6:20pm ET

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin (knee) returned to a limited practice session on Thursday after he was deemed a non-participant on Wednesday. Godwin was most likely just being rested in the first practice of the week on Wednesday, so he should be fully ready to go for Sunday's Divisional Round game against the Detroit Lions in a great matchup. The 27-year-old took a back seat to teammate Mike Evans over the majority of the 2023 regular season, but he stood out in Monday night's wild-card win over the Philadelphia Eagles, catching four of his five targets for 45 yards and a touchdown in the 32-9 rout. The Lions defense allowed the third-most half-PPR fantasy points to opposing receivers during the regular season, so Godwin is a solid DFS target at his current $6,300 DraftKings salary for this weekend's slate.

From RotoBaller

Jan 18 5:03pm ET

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin (knee) was limited during practice Thursday, Jan. 18.

Fantasy Spin: Godwin is being eased back into practice and should be available for the Divisional Round playoff game. He will see a good amount of targets if active and should be a starting option in all fantasy leagues.

From TheHuddle

Jan 17 4:30pm ET

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin (knee) did not take part in the team's walkthrough practice on Wednesday. The Buccaneers are most likely giving Godwin some extra rest to begin the practice week. If the 27-year-old is still sidelined for Thursday's practice, then we'll be a bit more worried about his knee injury heading into Sunday's Divisional Round playoff game versus the Detroit Lions. He was able to catch four of his five targets for 45 yards and a touchdown in Monday night's wild-card win over the Philadelphia Eagles. If he plays, Godwin will have another great matchup in which to do damage in the dome in Detroit against a suspect secondary in a game that could feature plenty of points on both sides.

From RotoBaller

Jan 17 4:23pm ET

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin (knee) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Jan. 17. The Buccaneers did not hold a practice Wednesday, so this is an estimation.

Fantasy Spin: Fantasy players should keep an eye on the situation to see if Godwin is in any danger of missing the Divisional Round playoff game. He is a main option in the passing game when healthy and should be a starting option in all leagues if active.

From TheHuddle

Jan 16 9:50am ET

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin caught four of his five targets for 45 yards and a touchdown in the Wild Card victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. It wasn't Godwin's most productive game of the year, but he delivered in the end and put the final touchdown on the board to put the defending NFC Champions away. The 27-year-old will have a chance at a monster game in the NFC Divisional Round against the Detroit Lions, who have surrendered the third-most fantasy points per game to wide receivers.

From RotoBaller

Jan 16 12:33am ET

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin ended up with four receptions for 45 yards and a touchdown on five targets in the NFC Wild Card game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday, Jan. 15.

From TheHuddle

Jan 13 7:13pm ET

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin (knee, rest) fully participated in practice Saturday, Jan. 13, and carries no injury designation for Wild Card Weekend.

Fantasy Spin: Godwin seems good to go but shouldn't be considered more than a flex option considering his volatile play this season.

From TheHuddle

Jan 12 5:13pm ET

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin (knee) did not participate in practice Friday, Jan. 12.

Fantasy Spin: It seems like Godwin may have sat out in order to rest his knee, but fantasy players will know more after the final practice of the week. He is one of the top options in the passing game for the Bucs and should be a starting option in all leagues if active for the game.

From TheHuddle

Jan 12 10:40am ET

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin had a slow start to the season, but picked it up towards the end of the regular season. The veteran wideout saw 10 or more targets in three of his last five games. Godwin finished his regular season with 1,024 receiving yards, which is one yard more than his previous campaign. However, Godwin was only able to find the end zone twice through the air, which is what hurt his fantasy value. The expectation is that the Bucs are going to continue attacking through the air against the shaky Philadelphia Eagles secondary on Monday. The lack of scoring makes Godwin less of an appealing DFS option, but he should still stay involved in the passing game.

From RotoBaller

Jan 7 8:00pm ET

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin has turned it up a notch over the last month or so. The veteran wideout was quiet through the first half of the season, but has recorded 25 receptions over his last four games. On Sunday, Godwin hauled in six of his seven targets for 51 yards in the win over the Carolina Panthers. Godwin made the most of his chances in a game where quarterback Baker Mayfield (ribs, ankle) struggled to get the ball to his receivers. Godwin finished the day as the Bucs' leading receiver and will be crucial to this team's postseason success.

From RotoBaller

Jan 7 4:13pm ET

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin caught six passes for 51 yards against the Carolina Panthers in Week 18. He was targeted seven times during the game.

From TheHuddle

Jan 4 5:40pm ET

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin was able to find the end zone for only the second time this season during last weekend's loss to the New Orleans Saints. Over the last four games, Godwin has seen a much larger target share in this offense. Godwin has seen 10 or more targets in three of his last four games. This weekend, Godwin will get a chance to keep the good times rolling against the Carolina Panthers. Last meeting, Godwin posted a dud versus the Panthers defense. Things should go better for Godwin this time around especially with how well he has been playing lately. DFS players should take a look at Godwin as a somewhat cheap wideout who should see a heavy usage.

From RotoBaller

Jan 1 3:53am ET

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin had three catches, 81 yards, and a touchdown versus the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, Dec. 31. He was targeted five times.

From TheHuddle

Dec 31 8:10pm ET

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin was held in check throughout most of Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints. The veteran wideout didn't make much of an impact during the half, but was able to make some noise after halftime. Godwin was able to somewhat salvage his fantasy value with a 47-yard touchdown to help keep the Bucs in the game. He finished his day by hauling in three of his five targets for 81 yards and a score in the loss. The expectation is that Godwin should be able to have success against the shaky Carolina Panthers defense next week. Godwin should rank as a high-end WR3 for that game.
