Veteran linebacker Eric Wilson is re-signing with the Green Bay Packers, according to PackersWire.com and his Instagram account. The 29-year-old has been in the NFL since 2017, spending time with the Minnesota Vikings, Philadelphia Eagles, and Houston Texans before joining the Packers in 2022. He is primarily utilized as a depth linebacker and core special teamer. Wilson has 108 games of NFL experience on his resume and has totaled 327 tackles, nine sacks, three forced fumbles, four interceptions, and nine passes defended in his career.

The Green Bay Packers re-signed cornerback Robert Rochell to an undisclosed deal on Tuesday, according to general manager Brian Gutekunst. In his first year with Green Bay in 2023, Rochell played in just nine games (zero starts) and recorded four solo tackles. He also suited up for both of the team's playoff games. The 25-year-old was a fourth-round pick by the Los Angeles Rams in 2021 out of Central Arkansas. He has started only five of the 37 games he's played in so far in three NFL seasons (two with the Rams), totaling 23 tackles (20 solo), an interception and two fumble recoveries. Rochell will return to the Packers in 2024 to provide both secondary and special teams depth.

The Green Bay Packers are re-signing cornerback/return specialist Keisean Nixon to a three-year, $18 million deal, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Nixon has earned first-team All-Pro honors for his work as a kick returner. In 2023, Nixon led the NFL in kick return yards (782) and returns of at least 20 yards (26). He also had the most productive season of his career on defense in 2023, racking up 80 tackles, half a sack, and one interception.

Free-agent safety Xavier McKinney is signing a four-year, $68 million deal with the Green Bay Packers, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. McKinney spent four seasons with the New York Giants after being selected in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. New York reportedly wanted to bring him back, but the two sides could not agree on terms. The 24-year-old has racked up 279 tackles, 1.5 sacks, nine interceptions, and 29 passes defended in his first 49 games. He will replace Darnell Savage in Green Bay, who is expected to sign with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Impending free agent safety Xavier McKinney was not franchise-tagged by the New York Giants ahead of 2024 free agency, but the two sides are still "trying to figure something out," according to McKinney. The 2020 second-round pick has racked up 279 tackles, 1.5 sacks, nine interceptions, and 27 passes defended in 49 career games in New York. Although the two sides are still trying to reach a deal to bring him back, Jordan Raanan of ESPN said it seems they have not been close. If the team can not re-sign McKinney before the start of the legal tampering period on Monday, March 11, he will be free to negotiate with any of the other 31 franchises.

The New York Giants didn't use a transition tag on safety Xavier McKinney by the deadline on Tuesday, so he will hit the free-agent market next week, according to sources. The 24-year-old former second-round pick in 2020 out of Alabama had a career-high 116 tackles (78 solo), half a sack, three interceptions, 11 passes defensed, a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries in 17 starts for the G-Men last year. In his four seasons in the NFL, he's racked up 279 tackles (180 solo), 1.5 sacks, six tackles for loss, nine interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), 27 passes defensed, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 49 games (46 starts). McKinney will be extremely attractive on the open market this offseason for teams looking to improve their secondary.

Green Bay Packers outside linebacker Preston Smith agreed to a restructured contract with the organization on Wednesday that will create $2.4 million in cap space in 2024. ESPN's Field Yates reports that Smith's compensation this year will be now $10 million. His new deal allows him the chance to earn an additional $4 million in incentives, so he could make more than the $12.3 million he was scheduled to earn in his ninth NFL season before restructuring. The 31-year-old is one of the more underrated edge rushers in the NFL, totaling at least eight sacks in three of his last four seasons.

Green Bay Packers defensive back Jaire Alexander (shoulder, ankle) is active ahead of Saturday's playoff game against the San Francisco 49ers. Alexander was questionable coming into this contest as he's been banged up lately. He was limited to seven regular season games in 2023. Luckily for Green Bay, Alexander has been cleared to play ahead of this big game. He'll provide a significant boost to this defensive unit as they attempt to slow down the 49ers offense.

Green Bay Packers CB Jaire Alexander (ankle, shoulder) is expected to play in the NFC Divisional Round playoff game against the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday, Jan. 20, a source said.

Green Bay Packers LB Kingsley Enagbare (knee) did not participate in practice Thursday, Jan. 18, and has been ruled out for the Divisional Round playoff game. CB Jaire Alexander (ankle, shoulder) did not practice and is listed as questionable. LB Isaiah McDuffie (neck) and P Daniel Whelan (illness) were limited during practice and are listed as questionable. DT Kenny Clark (back), LB Rashan Gary (knee), OG Elgton Jenkins (ankle, knee), CB Keisean Nixon (toe), S Jonathan Owens (knee), S Darnell Savage (calf, shoulder) and LB Preston Smith (ankle) were limited during practice but are not on the injury report. LB Quay Walker (shoulder) fully participated in practice and is not on the injury report.

Jan 18 4:10pm ET

Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander (ankle) is listed as questionable on the final injury report for the Divisional Round playoff game against the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday. Alexander hurt his ankle during practice last week but managed to play in the wild-card upset against the Dallas Cowboys, but he aggravated his ankle injury in that game and might have to miss this weekend's game as a result. The 26-year-old had an interception before reinjuring his ankle last weekend and is a big part of Green Bay's secondary, so not having him available in the Division Round against a 49ers offense with tons of weapons would be a big loss. With or without Alexander, it's going to be difficult for the Packers' defense to slow down the top-seeded team in the NFC on the road.

Green Bay Packers CB Jaire Alexander (ankle, shoulder) and LB Kingsley Enagbare (knee) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Jan. 17. DT Kenny Clark (back), LB Rashan Gary (knee), OG Elgton Jenkins (ankle, knee), LB Isaiah McDuffie (neck), CB Keisean Nixon (toe), S Jonathan Owens (knee), S Darnell Savage (calf, shoulder) and LB Preston Smith (ankle) were limited during practice. LB Quay Walker (shoulder) fully participated in practice. The Packers did not hold a practice Wednesday, so this is an estimation.

Jan 17 3:00pm ET

Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander (shoulder/ankle) did not practice on Wednesday, but head coach Matt LaFleur said, "he's doing better. He's getting treatment, and we'll see where he's at tomorrow." Alexander has been banged up seemingly all season and came into the NFC Wild Card Round questionable with a shoulder and ankle injury and aggravated his ankle ailment in the win over the Dallas Cowboys. The 26-year-old intercepted Dak Prescott to put the Packers in the red zone early in the game, and his absence would leave a significant hole in the Green Bay secondary against studs like Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel on Saturday against the 49ers. Since it's a playoff game, he'll likely play if he's close to being relatively healthy, but tomorrow's practice report and game status will bring more clarity to the situation.
