2021 RTSports Outlook

A new offense was a huge plus for Jones last season. He had a breakout year and finished second overall in fantasy running back scoring. He hit the 1,000-yard mark for the first time in his career and scored 19 touchdowns. He had five 100-yard games and 11 games with 15-plus fantasy points. Jones will continue to start and be a huge factor in the Packers balanced offensive attack. Jones is a small back but has good speed and moves. He catches the ball well and is a big-play threat at the position. He is a much im-proved runner between the tackles and has become a legit three-down back.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Jones might have a hard time repeating last year but should be considered a solid No. 1 fantasy back. He'll get his weekly touches and double-digit scores in this top offense. Jones should be a consistent weekly factor. Expect around 1,600 total yards, 60 receptions and double-digit scores.

RotoBaller's Outlook

Dillons arrival in Green Bay has created uncertainty surrounding touch distribution for the Packers backfield. He stockpiled 845 rushing attempts in three seasons at Boston College, while finishing third in that category during 2017 and 2019. He also accumulated 4,382 yards as a collegian, while finishing seventh as a freshman (1,589), and sixth as a junior (1,685). Dillon now looms as a threat to the workload of incumbent RB1 Aaron Jones following Green Bays decision to select him during Round 2 of the NFL Draft. Jones touch total had steadily increased during his first three seasons, including his season highs in snap count percentage (61%), rushing attempts (236), and targets (68) during 2019. But after demonstrating that he can function effectively as a primary back, Jones will encounter competition for touches entering his contract year. It is uncertain whether Dillon can siphon a sizable percentage of opportunities this season. But he has unquestionable size (6,0, 245 pounds), has completed the 40-yard dash in 4.53, and did accrue 38 rushing touchdowns. That raises the likelihood that he will immediately confiscate red zone carries. The Packers willingness to invest in Dillon should supersede concerns about the current murkiness that permeates the backfield. He remains available until Round 12 in Dynasty Startup drafts and Round 14 in Best-Ball leagues. This makes him a viable option at his current ADPs.

The Green Bay Packers and outside linebacker Za'Darius Smith completed a restructure of his contract to create salary cap space in 2021, according to a source. The move allowed the Packers to re-sign running back Aaron Jones earlier this week. Smith had his $5 million roster bonus and $9.76 million of his base salary in 2021 converted into a signing bonus, which created $7.38 million in salary cap space for the team. His salary cap number for the 2022 season will go up, and he'll be a candidate for a contract extension. Smith was scheduled to have a cap hit of $22 million this year and $20.75 million in 2022. The restructure lowers his cap hit this year to under $15 million but increases his cap hit in 2022 to over $28 million. Smith played in all 32 games and has recorded 26 sacks and 60 QB hits since he signed with the team in 2019.

The Green Bay Packers and running back Aaron Jones have agreed to a four-year, $48 million contract to keep Jones in Green Bay. It's a bit of a surprise after Green Bay chose not to franchise tag Jones, as it looked like the team was going to save money and roll with A.J. Dillon as their lead back. Not the case, which means everyone who speculatively traded for Dillon in dynasty leagues this offseason are in a bit of a pickle now. Jones is one of the NFL's most efficient backs and has averaged over five yards per carry in three of his four NFL season. He's got a pretty clear path to RB1 value.

Mar 14 4:23pm ET

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones agreed to terms on a four-year contract with the Packers Sunday, March 14, worth $48 million. The deal includes a $13 million signing bonus.

Fantasy Spin: Jones will continue to be the main running back for the Packers for the foreseeable future. He will share some playing with AJ Dillon but should be at least a No. 2 running back in fantasy leagues.

From TheHuddle

Mar 14 2:33pm ET

Green Bay Packers impending free-agent RB Aaron Jones is a player the Packers want to re-sign, but one of the issues appears to be the Packers are not willing to pay Jones like one of the top running backs in the NFL, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Fantasy Spin: Jones should receive interest from multiple teams if he hits the market, but the Packers still have a few days to reach an agreement. Jones should be a starting running back for a team and can be a weekly starting option in fantasy leagues.

From TheHuddle

Mar 9 8:33pm ET

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones is still in talks with the team regarding a long-term contract, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport Tuesday, March 9. Rapoport reports the Packers believe Jones 'is part of their future.'

Fantasy Spin: Jones, 26, led the NFL with 19 total touchdowns in 2019 and scored another 11 combined rushing and receiving TDs in 2020. He has 533 total touches over the last two seasons, but he was sparsely used his first two years in the league and should have plenty left to offer. He's clearly a great fit in the Green Bay offense, and fantasy managers should be happy if he stays for the 2021 season and beyond.

From TheHuddle

Mar 9 4:13pm ET

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones did not receive the franchise tag designation Tuesday, March 9, and is set to become a free agent.

From TheHuddle

Mar 2 6:23pm ET

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones will receive the franchise tag for the 2021 season, according to general manager Brian Gutekunst, if it's what's best for the team. Gutekunst says there are 'usually better ways to avoid it.'

Fantasy Spin: It's tough to envision a better fantasy situation for Jones in 2021 or beyond. He's a clear RB1 with the Packers but could slip into the RB2 tier in a less efficient offense.

From TheHuddle

Feb 24 12:33am ET

Impending free-agent RB Aaron Jones (Packers) reportedly has the Miami Dolphins among the teams he is willing to consider in free agency, and a league source confirms the team is also interested in signing Jones, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

Fantasy Spin: Miami is expected to enter free agency with about $26 million in cap space and could create another $36 million in cap space by restructuring a few contracts of their free-agent additions from last year and parting with a few other veterans such as receivers Albert Wilson and Allen Hurns. Jones would likely take a hit in efficiency if he signs with the Dolphins, but he could easily make up for it with the kind of volume Myles Gaskin enjoyed in 2020, leaving him as a potential high-end RB2 in fantasy next season.

From TheHuddle

Feb 8 4:03pm ET

Green Bay Packers impending free-agent RB Aaron Jones would be open to signing with the Miami Dolphins if he does not return to the Packers, according to a source.

Fantasy Spin: The Dolphins used multiple running backs this past season, but Jones probably would receive most of the work if he signed with Miami. Jones should see a solid workload no matter where he signs and can be at No. 2 running back in most leagues.

From TheHuddle

Feb 1 2:43pm ET

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones is 'absolutely everything we want in a professional football player,' according to general manager Brian Gutekunst, who expressed the team's desire to get a deal done with Jones on Monday, Feb. 1, before he hits free agency this spring.

Fantasy Spin: The Packers reportedly offered Jones a top-five running back contract at some point in the last year, but the two sides could not come to an agreement. With Jamaal Williams also headed toward free agency and almost no talk of him returning, it could leave Green Bay with AJ Dillon and little else in the backfield going into the draft. If that's the way things turn out, Dillon will be a popular fantasy sleeper in 2021 drafts even if the Packers add a back who can help him occasionally on passing downs.

Jan 24 6:40pm ET

Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones (chest) left the team's NFC Championship Game against the Buccaneers and did not return. Jones posted only 27 rushing yards in the first half of the game and became involved in a game-swinging moment at the end of the second quarter. The talented back caught a pass from Aaron Rodgers, turned up field and fumbled the ball at midfield. Jones was injured on the play and the Buccaneers picked up a crucial touchdown before the half. The 2020 Packers will be remembered for its passing attack but Jones posted 10-plus total touchdowns for the second straight season. Jones heads into the offseason as a free agent and returning to the Packers next season is certainly up in the air moving forward.

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers completed 33-of-48 passes for 346 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in the NFC Championship Game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. RB Aaron Jones, who left the game early due to injury, left the team with 27 yards on six rushes. RB Jamaal Williams ran seven times for 23 yards and added four receptions for 22 yards. WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling led the way with a game-high 115 yards on four receptions and a score, while WR Davante Adams had nine grabs for 67 yards and a score on 15 targets. WR Allen Lazard checked in with three receptions for 62 yards, while TE Marcedes Lewis had three grabs for 28 yards. TE Robert Tonyan also checked in with four grabs, 22 yards and a score. CB Jaire Alexander led the way with two interceptions, while totaling three total tackles and three passes defensed.

Green Bay Packers RB Aaron Jones (chest) suffered a chest injury during the NFC Championship game and is considered questionable to return.

Fantasy Spin: Jamaal Williams will serve as the main running back for the Packers while Jones is sidelined and will have fantasy value if the Packers advance in the playoffs.

From TheHuddle

Jan 24 1:50pm ET

Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones is a strong fantasy option most weeks, but Sunday's NFC Championship game against Tampa could be one of those games where you don't want Jones in your lineup. His worst game of the season came against Tampa when he was held to just 15 rushing yards on 10 carries. He found the end zone that week, but with Tampa allowing the second-fewest fantasy points per game this year to the position, you're probably going to be betting on a touchdown to get any value from Jones this week. There are better DFS plays, even on a two-game slate.

Jan 16 8:20pm ET

Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones carried the ball 14 times for 99 yards with one touchdown and 14 receiving yards in the team's 32-18 win over the Rams in the NFC Divisional Round. Jones went up against a stingy Rams Defense and ran hard between the tackles. The free-agent-to-be cashed in with a one-yard run for a touchdown in the second half and averaged a robust 7.1 yards per carry. The Packers offense didn't miss a beat against the Rams and will be favorites at home next week in the NFC Championship. Jones will continue to handle the bulk of carries out of the backfield heading into the team's next matchup.

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers completed 23 of 36 pass attempts for 296 yards and two touchdowns and scored a rushing touchdown against the Los Angeles Rams in the Divisional Playoffs. RB Aaron Jones ran 14 times for 99 yards and a touchdown and made a 14-yard catch. WR Davante Adams made nine catches for 66 yards a touchdown and WR Allen Lazard had four catches for 96 yards and a touchdown. TE Robert Tonyan had four receptions for 60 yards.

Jan 13 8:00pm ET

Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones will face a Rams Defense this Saturday that allowed the fifth fewest fantasy points to opposing running backs during the regular season. The Packers air attack made plenty of headlines this season but Jones, once again, enjoyed an excellent season. Jones posted 1,459 total yards from scrimmage with 11 touchdowns and, maybe most impressively, averaged over five yards per carry for the third time in his first four seasons. The Rams have not allowed a single back to post more than 100 rushing yards against them all season but have surrendered seven total touchdowns to the position over their final eight games. The Packers will need quarterback Aaron Rodgers to be at his best this weekend but Jones can be expected to see 10-15 touches in the backfield and could find the end zone against the Rams.

Jan 3 8:13pm ET

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers completed 19-of-24 passes for 240 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 17 against the Chicago Bears, as the team locked up the top seed, a bye and home-field advantage in the NFC playoffs. RB Aaron Jones went for 42 yards and a touchdown on 11 runs, while adding 43 yards on four grabs. RB Jamaal Williams posted 26 yards on five runs while WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling posted a team-high 87 yards and a score on two receptions. WR Davante Adams posted six receptions for 46 yards and a score, while TE Robert Tonyan had two catches and 18 yards with a score. WR Allen Lazard ended up with two catches for 17 yards, and TE Dominique Dafney had his first-career touchdown on a 13-yard second-half score.

Dec 31 4:00pm ET

Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones will try and keep the rival Bears out of the postseason in Week 17. Jones heads into the final game of the season with 10 total touchdowns and 1,062 rushing yards despite dealing with a bit of a timeshare in the backfield recently with Jamaal Williams and A.J. Dillon. Despite losing carries here and there (only 10 touches last week), Jones has posted 528 rushing yards his last five games, averaging 105.6 per game in that span. He will go up against a Bears Defense that is allowing the ninth fewest fantasy points to opposing running backs but Jones posted 90 yards against them in Week 12. Jones will carry low-end RB1 value in Week 17.

From RotoBaller

Dec 28 3:00pm ET

Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones (hip) carried the ball 10 times for 94 rushing yards in a dominant win over Tennessee. Jones added two receptions for 14 receiving yards to cap off a strong game for the UTEP product, who was forced to leave the game in the first half with a hip injury, though he later returned. Jones still managed to exceed 90 scrimmage yards for the fourth time in five games. It's worth watching the practice reports this week to see if the hip injury hinders Jones at practice in any way. As long as he's healthy, Jones should be expected to keep his hold on the lead back role in a Week 17 matchup with the Bears, who allowed 90 rushing yards to him in their first meeting.
