2024 RTSports Outlook

Smith took his game to a new level in year two, finishing ninth overall in fantasy receiver scoring. The addition of A.J. Brown to the passing game didn't slow down Smith at all. He had a huge season, finishing with 95 receptions. Smith had double-digit fantasy points all but five games. And he finished the season playing his best football, having 100-plus yards five of his last seven games. Smith will continue to form a great one-two punch for the Eagles explosive offense. Smith is a pretty complete receiver for a young player. He is a top route runner with great speed. He is a playmaker with the ball in his hands. Smith can do it all and is quickly emerging as one of the best receivers in football.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Smith is quickly emerging as a top fantasy option. He should be considered a low-end No. 1 fantasy receiver, capable of being top 10 once again. His numbers might improve a little even more in year three. He could get 100 receptions for 1,300 yards and nine touchdowns.

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith said earlier this month that he's not worried about a long-term contract extension this offseason. "It's all in God's hands," Smith said. "At the end of the day, extension or not, I'm going to have to come in and do what I have to do." The 25-year-old pass-catcher is now eligible for an extension after completing three seasons in the NFL. At the very least, the Eagles will pick up Smith's fifth-year option, which will take him through the 2025 season. The former 10th overall pick in 2021 out of Alabama has topped 1,000 receiving yards in each of the last two years and has gone for 3,178 yards and 19 touchdowns in his three years in the league. Smith has been durable, too, and his fantasy arrow continues to point up heading into 2024.

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith caught eight of 12 targets for 148 yards during the team's 9-32 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The 25-year-old sat out of the regular season finale due to an ankle injury but looked no worse for wear Monday night. Without A.J. Brown (knee), Smith carried the Eagles' passing attack, but it was not enough for the team to overcome the Buccaneers. Smith went over 1000 yards and caught seven touchdowns for the second season in a row, and that was on a much lower target share than last season. He will remain a rock-solid WR2 in fantasy drafts come August.

Eagles' WR DeVonta Smith had 8 receptions for 148 yards but no touchdowns in Monday's loss in Tampa Bay.

Jan 13 5:00pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith (ankle) has been removed from the injury report ahead of Monday's playoff matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Smith sat out of the Week 18 loss to the New York Giants due to mild ankle sprain. Luckily, Smith was able to get through full practice sessions this week. He appears to be a full-go for this game, which is great news for the Eagles offense that is without A.J. Brown (knee) for Monday's game. That being said, Smith will be the No. 1 wideout for this game and a strong DFS option.

Jan 12 8:50pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith will go on the road to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first week of the NFL playoffs. The 25-year-old missed the first game of his NFL career last weekend against the New York Giants due to an ankle injury but has since been a full practice participant and should be good to go Monday night. The big story this weekend is A.J. Brown (knee), who is in danger of missing the game after not practicing all week. If he is inactive, Smith will be the clear top target and could see a massive workload against a Tampa Bay defense that ranked ninth in fantasy points allowed to wide receivers in 2023. At his price point, Smith will be a popular option in DFS regardless of Brown's status.

From RotoBaller

Jan 12 6:50pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith (ankle) was a full participant in practice for the second straight day on Friday. Smith hasn't had any restrictions during practice yet this week and looks primed to play on Monday night in the wild-card playoff contest versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after sitting out the Week 18 loss to the New York Giants. The 25-year-old sprained his right ankle in Week 17 but appears to be fully ready to go for wild-card weekend, where he could operate as quarterback Jalen Hurts' (finger) top wideout if A.J. Brown (knee) is limited or sidelined altogether. There are some questions as to how well Hurts will play a week after dislocating the middle finger on his right throwing hand, but fantasy managers would be more comfortable ignoring that with Smith in their DFS lineups if Brown is unable to play. Smith had his second straight 1,000-yard season with seven touchdowns during the regular season.

Jan 11 3:30pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith (ankle) was present for the team's first practice of the week on Thursday. Smith sprained his right ankle in Week 17 and was held out of the Week 18 regular season finale against the New York Giants. Now that Smith is back at practice, he plans to play in Monday night's wild-card playoff showdown against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The 25-year-old could have a bigger role upon his return as well, depending on the status of fellow wideout A.J. Brown (knee), who suffered a knee injury last Sunday and didn't practice on Thursday. Smith had his second straight 1,000-yard season in just his third year in the NFL, catching 81 passes and scoring seven touchdowns for the second straight season. If Brown is out or limited for wild-card weekend, Smith will become quarterback Jalen Hurts' (finger) top target.

Jan 5 6:50pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith (ankle) has been ruled out for the Week 18 matchup against the New York Giants. Smith hasn't been able to practice at all this week due to a lingering ankle injury. The Eagles have secured a playoff spot, but could still win the division with a victory and the Cowboys losing to the Commanders. That seems unlikely, so the Eagles are going to play it safe and rest Smith. Julio Jones figures to have an increased role without Smith available. He could be worth a look as a possible dart throw in DFS contests.

Jan 4 3:20pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith (ankle) didn't take part in the team's walkthrough on Wednesday and is not practicing on Thursday, either. Smith sprained his right ankle in the Week 17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals and is in jeopardy of being rested for the Week 18 regular season finale on Sunday against the New York Giants. The most likely scenario is that the 25-year-old is rested for a likely wild-card matchup in the first round of the postseason next week for the Eagles. The 25-year-old was on crutches and in a walking boot after Sunday's game, which obviously doesn't bode well for his chances of playing this weekend. If Smith is ruled out, receivers Julio Jones, Quez Watkins and Olamide Zaccheaus could have much bigger roles as the Eagles play out the string of the regular season.

From RotoBaller

Jan 3 4:50pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith (ankle) was listed as a non-participant in Wednesday's walkthrough practice estimation. Smith injured his right foot in the Week 17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday and was seen in a walking boot while using crutches after the game. The Eagles still have a chance to win the NFC East in Week 18, but they'll need a win over the New York Giants and for the Dallas Cowboys to lose to the Washington Commanders. The primary concern for Philadelphia, a team already playoff bound, is that Smith can get healthy for the wild-card round next week. Fantasy managers should consider it likely that Smith doesn't play this Sunday versus the Giants. There's a chance Philly could rest other offensive starters as well, which would give receivers Quez Watkins, Julio Jones and Olamide Zaccheaus more playing time.

From RotoBaller

Jan 1 7:10pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said that sitting key players for the Week 18 regular season finale on Sunday against the New York Giants is "a consideration" since the team is locked into the No. 5 seed for the NFC playoffs unless the Dallas Cowboys lose to the Washington Commanders. "I'm not saying yes, I'm not saying no. I'm saying everything's discussed," Sirianni said. We may not know which players won't play for the Eagles until Sunday, making this a frustrating situation for fantasy managers still competing for a championship in Week 18. Any players dealing with injuries like wide receiver DeVonta Smith (ankle) should probably be considered unlikely to play.

From RotoBaller

Jan 1 6:40pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith (ankle) was still on crutches and wearing a walking boot on Monday, according to head coach Nick Sirianni. When asked about Smith's status for the Week 18 regular season game against the New York Giants this Sunday, Sirianni only said, "We'll see." The Eagles said that Smith is dealing with a mild ankle sprain, but regardless, his status for this weekend is up in the air as the Eagles look for a win to hang on and win the NFC East. We'll have a better idea on whether the 25-year-old will play once the Eagles begin practicing on Wednesday. If Smith cannot go against the G-Men, Quez Watkins, Julio Jones and Olamide Zaccheaus would have bigger roles in the passing game behind A.J. Brown and tight end Dallas Goedert. Smith caught three passes for 30 yards in Sunday's upset loss to the Arizona Cardinals before getting hurt.

From RotoBaller

Jan 1 12:10pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith (ankle), who was spotted leaving the Week 17 loss to the Arizona Cardinals in a walking boot, is believed to be dealing with a mild ankle sprain, according to sources. Smith will have more tests on Monday, but his injury isn't considered serious. The 25-year-old finished the 35-31 loss with three receptions on his five targets for 30 yards. It's good news for the Eagles offense heading into the postseason. But for fantasy managers that have Smith rostered that will still be playing for a championship in Week 18, there's a good chance the Eagles will hold Smith out for the final regular season game against the New York Giants on Sunday, Jan. 7. If that happens, wideouts Quez Watkins, Julio Jones and Olamide Zaccheaus would see more run in Philly's passing attack. Stay tuned for more information on Smith leading up to the Week 18 game.

Dec 31 5:50pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith (foot) struggled in Sunday's improbable loss to the Arizona Cardinals. The wideout had just three catches for 30 yards to finish with one of his worst showings of the 2023-24 campaign. But more importantly, Smith suffered a right foot injury late in the contest, with NBC Philly's Dave Zangaro reporting the 25-year-old was spotted on crutches and in a walking boot after the game. There will likely be an update on Smith's status in the next day or two, although he will probably miss some practice time during the week. There's also a chance he won't be available in Week 18 against the New York Giants, which wouldn't be ideal. If that's the case, Julio Jones, who had two touchdowns in Week 17, would see even more streaming interest from fantasy managers.

From RotoBaller

Dec 29 9:40pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith will take on the Arizona Cardinals in the team's final home game of the regular season in Week 17. The 25-year-old scored the only receiving touchdown for the Eagles last week but drew only five targets for the second week in a row. Tight end Dallas Goedert returning to the lineup has caused the target share to be spread around a bit more, but Smith remains locked in as a WR2 due to his explosive playmaking ability. Arizona ranks 19th in fantasy points allowed to wide receivers this year but has allowed plenty of players to finish as top 12 options. Smith will be a bit more of a boom-or-bust WR2 than he is most weeks, but he should remain in fantasy lineups due to his high upside during many fantasy managers' fantasy football championship games this weekend.

From RotoBaller

Dec 25 8:30pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith caught four of five targets for 79 yards and a touchdown during the team's 33-25 win over the New York Giants. The 25-year-old did most of his damage in the first half, putting the Eagles ahead by two scores in the second quarter with a 36-yard catch and run to the end zone. Teammate A.J. Brown dominated the target share in the second half but ended up with just one more yard than Smith by the end of the game. This is the second week in a row that the former Heisman winner has had just five targets go his way, but Smith remains a locked-in WR2 due to his explosive play-making ability. He draws another favorable matchup next week against the Arizona Cardinals.

Dec 23 8:50pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith (knee) has been removed from the injury report ahead of the Week 16 matchup against the New York Giants. Smith was able to practice on Saturday, which puts him back on track to play on Monday night, barring any setbacks. Smith has been at less than 100 percent lately, but has still been able to contribute. Fantasy managers should consider Smith a high-end WR2 for this favorable matchup against the shaky Giants secondary.

From RotoBaller

Dec 23 1:50pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith (knee) told reporters on Saturday that he is playing on Monday Night Football against the New York Giants in Week 16. Smith missed practice on both Thursday and Friday but did get in a practice session on Saturday. The Eagles have yet to release their final injury report ahead of Monday's game but it's encouraging that Smith felt confident enough to tell reporters that he's playing. He will likely be playing at less than 100% but he should still be considered a WR2 for his Week 16 matchup against the G-Men.

From RotoBaller

Dec 23 1:20pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith (knee) returned to practice on Saturday after missing back-to-back sessions on Thursday and Friday. It's encouraging that the third-year wideout made it back to practice ahead of the Eagles' MNF tilt against the Giants. Philadelphia has yet to release their final injury report ahead of the game but regardless of what it says, Smith is likely playing at less than 100%. Fantasy managers should have a backup plan ready in case Smith suffers a setback at any point over the next few days. He should be viewed as a WR2 if he does indeed suit up, however.

From RotoBaller

Dec 21 6:00pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith (knee) did not practice on Thursday due to a knee issue. He was spotted on the sideline in street clothes and was held out of Thursday's practice. According to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Smith hadn't been practicing in full due to a knee injury and suffered a new injury in last Monday's loss to the Seattle Seahawks. The 26-year-old is considered day-to-day. It's unclear if Smith is in jeopardy of missing Monday's contest versus the New York Giants, but it's a situation fantasy managers should continue to monitor throughout the weekend. The former first-round pick has been solid this season, racking up 74 catches for 957 yards and six touchdowns over 14 games. Quez Watkins, Julio Jones, and Olamide Zacchaeus would all see an uptick in targets if Smith was unavailable for Week 16.
