2024 RTSports Outlook

Rodgers had a hard time getting on the same page with his young receivers last season and it showed in his overall numbers. Rodgers was just 13th overall in fantasy quarterback scoring. He had just two games all season with 20-plus fantasy points. Rodgers threw for just less than 3,700 and failed to reach 30 total touchdowns. He had just one three-touchdown game all season. The positives for Rodgers is he remained very accurate, finishing second overall in on target percentage (80.6 percent). The problem was his receivers dropped a lot of passes (40). This caused for some missed opportunities. Rodgers remains very talented and one of the best in football. He gets a new group of players to work with this season, moving to the Jets. He gets reunited with his old offensive coordinator and will play with some very talented young receivers. Rodgers has more than 30 total touchdowns 10 of 15 seasons. Rodgers also has at least two rushing touchdowns 10 of the last 15 seasons. His rushing totals have gone down as he has gotten older, though. He had fewer than 100-rushing yards last year for the first time since 2007.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Rodgers isn't quite in that elite category for fantasy quarterbacks anymore. It would not surprise to see his numbers increase this season with his new team, but don't expect a jump to past numbers for him. He is probably more of a low-end No. 1 or platoon option. He'll get around 4,000-passing yards, 30 total scores and 100-rushing yards with very few turnovers.

New York Jets QB Aaron Rodgers (Achilles) is expected to participate in offseason workouts, according to head coach Robert Saleh.

Fantasy Spin: Rodgers was participating in some practices before the end of the 2023 season, but he should be able to do some things during offseason workouts. He will have a solid offense to work with next season but probably is a No. 2 fantasy quarterback in leagues.

New York Jets right tackle Morgan Moses (pectoral) said he had surgery six weeks ago to fix a torn pectoral muscle that he tore in Week 4 and played through last year. Despite having surgery in the offseason for a significant injury, Moses said, "Yes, sir, 100 percent," when asked if he'll be ready to go in training camp this summer. The 33-year-old former third-round selection in the 2014 NFL draft by the Washington Commanders out of Virginia spent the first seven seasons of his career in D.C. and will be returning to the Jets after playing for them in 2021. He has started 144 of the 152 games he's appeared in over his 10-year NFL career and should open the 2024 campaign as the Jets' starting right tackle as he looks to protect quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Dynasty | The New York Jets have signed free agent wide receiver Mike Williams. Dynasty Analysis: The deal is for one year and can be worth up to $15 million. Williams is coming off a torn ACL but is reportedly ahead of schedule in his rehab. He's been a very productive receiver when healthy but is seemingly constantly dealing with some kind of ailment. If he's back to full strength, this could get very interesting. An offense featuring Aaron Rodgers, Breece Hall, Williams and Garrett Wilson is about as good as it gets on paper. Williams' ADP won't rise much based on his age (29) but this is one of the better outcomes you could hope for.

The New York Jets are expected to sign former Dallas Cowboys All-Pro and Pro Bowl left tackle Tyron Smith, according to a source. Smith will become the team's new blind-side protector for quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who will be returning in 2024 after tearing his Achilles in Week 1 of last season. The Jets have made it a point to upgrade their offensive line this offseason so they can do a better job of keeping Rodgers upright in the pocket, adding left guard John Simpson, right tackle Morgan Moses, and now Smith. The 33-year-old Smith, the former ninth overall selection by the Cowboys in 2011 out of USC, is an eight-time Pro Bowler, although he hasn't played a full season since 2015. But when he's been healthy, Smith has proven to be one of the better left tackles in the league, so the signing is a big plus for Rodgers and the Jets offense.

The Baltimore Ravens are trading starting right tackle Morgan Moses and the No. 134 overall pick to the New York Jets in exchange for the No. 112 and No. 218 picks in the 2024 NFL draft. The 33-year-old veteran played for the Jets in 2021, and now he returns to help protect Aaron Rodgers (Achilles) in 2024. The Jets also agreed to terms with former Baltimore Ravens guard John Simpson earlier this week. Moses, a 2014 third-round pick, has played in 152 games with 144 career starts. Although he has never made a Pro Bowl or been named to an All-Pro team, he is viewed as an above-average starting tackle and should be a significant upgrade from last year's Jets' tackle. The team is prioritizing keeping Rodgers upright after he suffered a torn Achilles in Week 1 last year, and they're likely just missing a starting left tackle to complete the rebuilt offensive line.

Mar 12 12:40am ET

Veteran free-agent offensive lineman John Simpson signed with the New York Jets on Monday on a two-year deal worth up to $18 million, according to his agent, Kyle Strongin. Simpson started all 19 games (including playoffs) at left guard for the Baltimore Ravens last year after spending the first four years of his career with the Las Vegas Raiders. He was drafted by the Raiders in the fourth round of the 2020 draft out of Clemson. The 26-year-old has started 38 of the 52 games that he's played in in his four years in the NFL. In 1,118 offensive snaps for Baltimore in 2023, Simpson gave up just one sack, although he did also have 11 penalties, which was the second-most among guards in the league. Simpson will likely be the Jets' starting left guard in 2024 after Laken Tomlinson was released. It's some offensive-line help for veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

New York Jets QB Aaron Rodgers said he hopes to play two to four more seasons before retiring.

Fantasy Spin: Rodgers missed all but a few snaps of the 2023 season but should be ready for training camp. He should have some success with the Jets in 2024 but probably will only be a No. 2 quarterback in most fantasy leagues.

From TheHuddle

Mar 5 10:50pm ET

The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt writes that the New York Jets' biggest offseason need in 2024 is their offensive line, and it's been the case for most of the last decade (if not longer). It should help that the Jets have veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers, although he's 40 years old and coming off an Achilles tear. New York started 13 offensive-line combinations in 17 games in 2023 and have had bad luck with injuries for two straight seasons. Their decision to enter last year with 38-year-old Duane Brown and an injury-prone Mekhi Becton as their two best tackle options was a bad idea. The Jets have two players locked in as starters (Joe Tippmann and Alijah Vera-Tucker), but at a minimum, they'll need at least two new starting offensive linemen and better depth to help protect Rodgers.

Dynasty | Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers says he can do everything but run at full speed at the moment. Dynasty Analysis: Rodgers was on the Joe Rogan podcast and while he shared his opinions on a variety of topics, we'll just stick to the football. He famously tore his achilles on the fifth play of the season and was lost for the year. While he tried to make it back, the Jets were eliminated before he really had a chance to even try. At this point, Rodgers looks like he'll be under center week one and looking to reclaim his spot as a QB1. His age is a serious concern in dynasty leagues but he again looks like an affordable target for a contending dynasty manager.

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers (Achilles) said on the Joe Rogan podcast that his rehab from a torn Achilles continues to go well five months removed from surgery. "It feels good. I can do everything except sprint at a top speed," Rodgers said. The Jets designated Rodgers to return from Injured Reserve late in the regular season, but he wasn't able to complete a miraculous return after tearing his Achilles in Week 1 because of the fact that the Jets were eliminated from postseason contention. The 40-year-old future Hall of Famer did return to practices to close out the regular season, though, and provided the team of glimpses of how their season could have turned out in 2023 had he stayed healthy. Barring a setback this offseason, Rodgers should be ready to go for training camp and the start of the 2024 campaign.

Jan 31 7:50pm ET

New York Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett will return in 2024, although team and league sources say that head coach Robert Saleh has explored adding to the offensive staff and creating a more collaborative play-calling process that would reduce Hackett's role. It's a clear indication the team has lost confidence in his ability to run the offense on his own. Hackett struggled to adjust the offense once quarterback Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles on the first offensive series of the year in Week 1, and multiple coaches and players described him as lacking in attention to detail. The Jets finished the year ranked last in third-down conversions, red-zone offense and total offensive EPA, 31st in total yards, 30th in offensive points per game and 30th in passing touchdowns. The Jets should fare better on offense with a healthy Rodgers in 2024, and it sounds as though they'd be wise to give Hackett much less input.

Jan 17 7:40pm ET

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers (Achilles) lead the way during "competition" periods of the team's late-season practices. Up to that point, Rodgers have been limited to scout-team work, but he was moving so well on his surgically repaired Achilles that coaches decided to let him cook to close out the year. "It's like watching Picasso paint," tackle Mekhi Becton said after one of the practices. Rodgers was in total command during the sessions, and players said the future Hall of Famer was so into it that it seemed like he was trying to make up for lost time. "[I] proved I can maybe still play a little bit," Rodgers said, grinning. At the very least, it gives the Jets hope that the 40-year-old can play closer to his 2021 MVP level than what he showed in his final season in Green Bay in 2022. The Jets offensive line will certainly need to be better -- they allowed 64 sacks in 2023.

From RotoBaller

Jan 8 12:30pm ET

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers (Achilles) said at his season-ending press conference on Monday that he'd "like for this to be more than just next year." The 40-year-old lost all of the 2023 season when he tore his Achilles in the season opener, but he made amazing progress during his rehab and probably would have returned as the Jets' starter if not for the fact that they weren't in the playoff race late in the year. Rodger is under contract through the 2025 season, so barring any more injuries, it sounds like he plans to play two more seasons in New York. It remains to be seen how effective he'll be in 2024 coming off a serious injury while playing behind a suspect offensive line, but he will have one of the best receivers in the game to lean on in Garrett Wilson.

New York Jets QB Zach Wilson (concussion) did not participate in practice Friday, Jan. 5, and has been ruled out for Week 18. QB Aaron Rodgers (Achilles) was limited during practice but has also been ruled out for Week 18.

Fantasy Spin: Trevor Siemian will be starting the regular season finale with both Wilson and Rodgers sidelined. He has not played well since taking over the starting job and can be avoided in all leagues.

From TheHuddle

Jan 5 1:00am ET

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers (Achilles) remained limited at Thursday's practice despite the fact that he won't play in Week 18 against the New England Patriots. The book has already been closed for Rodgers' debut season in the Big Apple, but he is at least still staying active on the practice field as he continues to rehab from Week 1's ruptured Achilles. The 40-year-old 10-time Pro Bowler should enter the 2024 season as a popular Comeback Player of the Year candidate with a clean bill of health, considering Rodgers was pushing to make an improbable late-season return before the Jets were eliminated from playoff contention in Week 15. Zach Wilson (concussion) is also out on Sunday, so Trevor Siemian will draw the starting nod under center in the regular-season finale. With a pitifully low 30.5-point implied total, this is not a game to target for DFS purposes.

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers (Achilles) was a limited participant in Wednesday's team practice. Rodgers continues to make strides from his Achilles injury that he suffered in Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills. However, with just one regular season game left and the Jets playing for nothing in Week 18, it's pretty obvious that the veteran quarterback will not return this year. New York activated him from the injured reserve list in Week 16 to give him more practice reps with the team. The four-time MVP should be ready to go by Training Camp next season.
