San Francisco 49ers quarterback Mac Jones will head back to the bench ahead of the Week 11 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. Jones has started in each of the last six games while Brock Purdy (toe) was sidelined. Now, Purdy is ready to play, so Jones will return to being the backup. However, Jones was impressive during his time as the starter. He threw for 2,151 yards with 13 touchdowns and six interceptions in eight games. It sounds like this solid play has made him a prime trade candidate for the 2026 season. Jones is still under control with the organization after signing a two-year, seven million deal with the organization this offseason. Purdy is viewed as the franchise quarterback in San Francisco, so moving Jones makes sense. Given his play this season, Jones should draw some interest in the trade market. This is something to monitor during the offseason.

49ers' QB Mac Jones scored 27.25 fantasy points in Sunday's Week 10 loss against the Rams. Jones threw for 319 yards on 33-of-39 with three touchdowns and one interception.

Dynasty | 49ers quarterback Mac Jones completed 33-of-39 passes for 319 yards with three touchdowns and one interception in a loss to the Rams. Dynasty Analysis: There may be no quarterback controversy in San Francisco but Jones has clearly shown he has the ability to start in the NFL. He's thrown for over 2,000 yards with a completion percentage near 70% while posting 13 touchdowns and six interceptions in his eight starts so far. While Brock Purdy will undoubtedly get this job back, Jones has auditioned to start for someone next season, so he makes for a solid dynasty stash.

Nov 9 8:30pm CT

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Mac Jones has been able to make the most of this starting opportunity while Brock Purdy (toe) is sidelined. On Sunday, Jones did everything he could to help his team win, but unfortunately it wasn't enough. He completed 33-of-39 passing attempts for 319 yards with three touchdowns and one interception in the loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Jones made some mistakes as well, but he also posted his third 300-plus yard passing game of the season. It's unclear if Purdy will be ready to start for the Week 11 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers. If not, Jones should be viewed as a streaming option for that one.

49ers' QB Mac Jones passed for 319 yards on 33-of-39 with three touchdowns in Sunday's loss against the Rams.

Nov 8 4:20am CT

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Mac Jones (knee) is expected to draw his eighth start of the season in Week 10 against the Los Angeles Rams. Brock Purdy (toe) is listed as questionable after a week of limited practices, and would serve as Jones' backup if active. The last time Jones faced the Rams, he enjoyed his best game of the season, passing for 342 yards and two touchdowns with no turnovers, and did so with Ricky Pearsall (knee), Jauan Jennings (ankle, shoulder), and George Kittle out due to injury. It was an exceptional lapse for the Rams' defense, which has given up just nine passing touchdowns and has allowed only one other top-12 finish to an opposing quarterback this season. This time around, Jones will still be missing Pearsall but has Jennings and Kittle back in his arsenal. Jones projects as a mid-range QB2, making him viable in two-QB formats.

Nov 4 12:50pm CT

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Mac Jones improved his record to 5-2 as a starter after leading the team to a 34-24 win over the New York Giants in Week 9. Jones completed all of his first 14 pass attempts and finished 19-for-24 for 235 yards and two touchdowns in the win. If and when Brock Purdy (toe) is healthy enough to resume playing, Jones will head back to the bench. Head coach Kyle Shanahan has labeled the 49ers as "Brock's team," per the AP's Josh Dubow. Whoever is under center in San Francisco's upcoming meeting with the Rams will put fantasy football managers in a tough spot. Jones diced up Los Angeles in Week 5 for 342 yards and two touchdowns, but in their three games since, the Rams have averaged 204 passing yards allowed and registered 12 sacks and two interceptions.

Nov 1 4:10am CT

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Mac Jones (knee) has been named the team's Week 9 starter, though regular starter Brock Purdy (toe) has not yet been ruled out and may be available off the bench. Jones has already started six games in Purdy's stead, passing for 1,597 yards and eight touchdowns with a 65.9% completion rate, and throwing five interceptions. In Week 9, the Niners face the Giants, who have given up three straight top-12 finishes to opposing quarterbacks. Jones might struggle to see the same success, as he will be short on help and protection. Wide receiver Ricky Pearsall (knee) is still out, as is starting center Jake Brendel (hamstring). Jones projects as a low-end QB2 and should be avoided given the matchup and the lingering possibility of Purdy being healthy enough to sub in if Jones can't get the offense going.

Oct 27 7:20pm CT

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Mac Jones (knee) suffered a knee contusion in the Week 8 loss to the Houston Texans and is considered day-to-day, according to David Lombardi of The San Francisco Standard. Jones' injury doesn't sound serious, but he could head back to a backup role this upcoming weekend against the New York Giants if Brock Purdy (toe) is deemed ready to return from a turf-toe injury that he aggravated back in Week 4. Jones has also played through a knee sprain this year with Purdy injured and has kept the team's offense afloat. However, the 27-year-old has underwhelmed in two straight weeks and is now up in the air to play this Sunday against the G-Men. In his six starts in 2025, Jones has completed 65.9% of his 226 pass attempts for 1,597 yards, eight touchdowns, and five interceptions. If he's forced to make another start in Week 9, he'll continue to be a low-end QB2 option in superflex fantasy leagues.

Oct 25 4:30am CT

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Mac Jones (knee, oblique) will see his sixth start of the season as Brock Purdy (toe) has been ruled out once again. Jones' record improved to 4-1 after last week's win over the Atlanta Falcons, despite it being his least productive game of the season, finishing 17-for-26 with 152 yards and one interception. In Week 8, Jones will be up against the Houston Texans, who feature one of the best defenses in the league in 2025. The Texans have allowed the fewest points in the league, the second-worst collective completion percentage for opposing quarterbacks (57.8%), and just four passing touchdowns. Jones has worked his way into two top-12 finishes already this year, but with another potential defensive slog in the works, he ranks as a mid-range QB2. Jones should be kept out of starting lineups in Week 8, though he deserves consideration in two-QB and superflex formats.

Oct 17 9:50pm CT

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Mac Jones (knee, oblique) will be under center in the Week 7 matchup versus Atlanta. With Brock Purdy (toe) still working his way back, Jones will get a chance to make amends for his two-interception showing in the recent loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. To be fair, the 27-year-old has played well enough throughout the 2025 campaign, tossing for 1,252 yards, six touchdowns, and three picks while completing 67.3% of his attempts. Unfortunately, the 49ers will be without Ricky Pearsall (knee). However, Jones will still have Christian McCaffrey, Kendrick Bourne, and Jauan Jennings in his arsenal. George Kittle (hamstring) will also make his return after being sidelined since the Week 1 win over the Seattle Seahawks. All things considered, the signal-caller may not be the safest fantasy option in single-quarterback setups against an improved Falcons defense. Still, with Sunday's contest anticipated to be one of the highest-scoring games on the Week 7 schedule, Jones can realistically be utilized by those participating in Superflex formats.

Oct 15 2:20am CT

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Mac Jones was handed his first loss of 2025 when the team stumbled against the Buccaneers in Week 6. Jones went 27-for-39 for 347 yards in the game, with two interceptions. It was his first start in 2025 without a touchdown, as well. Jones is now 3-1 while standing in for Brock Purdy (toe) and leads the league with 313 passing yards per game, all while missing tight end George Kittle (hamstring) and the availability of wide receivers Ricky Pearsall (knee) and Jauan Jennings (ankle, ribs) in flux. Purdy will be evaluated during the team's first practice on Wednesday as a first step in determining his availability for Week 7. If he cannot go, Jones would be under center again, this time against an Atlanta Falcons defense that has yet to allow more than 180 passing yards in a game.

Oct 12 6:30pm CT

49ers' QB Mac Jones passed for 347 yards on 27-of-39 but no touchdowns in Sunday's game in Tampa Bay. He did throw two interceptions in the loss. It was Jones's 2nd consecutive 300+ yard passing game. He has averaged 345 yards passing in those games.

Oct 12 2:10pm CT

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Mac Jones (knee, oblique) is officially active for Sunday's Week 6 contest against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was listed as questionable after being a limited participant in practice. There was never much doubt about Jones' status, as it was widely expected that he would earn the start on Sunday with Brock Purdy (sidelined). Indeed, Jones is active as the Niners' primary quarterback, and he even has some fantasy appeal. The former first-round pick threw for 342 yards and two touchdowns last week, and he did so without four of the 49ers' top pass catchers. Jauan Jennings has returned to the mix this week, giving Jones another weapon. He ranks as a high-end QB2 with significant streaming appeal.

Oct 12 12:00am CT

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Mac Jones (oblique) is expected to be active for his team's matchup with the hosting Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Jones has now dealt with knee and oblique injuries over the past few weeks, but will again get the start for the 49ers despite logging a week's worth of limited practices. Schefter also notes that teammate Brock Purdy (toe) has a "chance" to return in Week 7. It's excellent news for San Francisco, as the team is dealing with a mess of injuries on both sides of the ball. Reportedly, the team should also have wide receiver Jauan Jennings (ankle, rib) active, aiding Jones with Ricky Pearsall (knee) still at least a week away.

From RotoBaller

Oct 11 3:50am CT

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Mac Jones (knee, oblique) is expected to draw his fourth start of the season with Brock Purdy (toe) declared out. Jones himself is tagged as questionable on the team's final injury report for Week 6, but the team feels "pretty good about where he's going to be at," according to general manager John Lynch. Jones has performed well in Purdy's stead, averaging 301.7 passing yards per game and throwing six touchdowns to one interception in his previous three starts. On Sunday, he will face a Tampa Bay defense that has allowed four top-12 finishes to opposing quarterbacks through five games. However, Jones' injuries and those that have Ricky Pearsall (knee) declared out and Jauan Jennings (ankle, ribs) listed as questionable will limit his ceiling. Jones projects as a low-end QB2 in Week 6. He may be a suitable candidate for two-QB leagues, but he is a risky start in traditional formats.

Oct 10 7:50pm CT

Despite getting a questionable tag on the final Week 6 injury report on Friday, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Mac Jones (knee, oblique) is expected to play and make his second straight start against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with Brock Purdy (toe) missing his fourth game of the year, according to ESPN's Nick Wagoner. Jones was limited in practice all week with left-knee and oblique injuries, but head coach Kyle Shanahan said on Thursday that the former Patriots QB is slated to start on Sunday. The 27-year-old's knee injury dates back to a preseason game before he aggravated it in Week 3. Jones strained his oblique on the final offensive snap in last Thursday's win over the Los Angeles Rams. He's clearly not 100% going into Week 6, making a repeat of his 300-yard performance in Week 5 unlikely, especially with receiver Ricky Pearsall (knee) out for a second straight game. Consider Jones a low-end QB2 this weekend.

From RotoBaller

Oct 10 5:10pm CT

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Mac Jones (knee, oblique) is dealing with multiple injuries and is officially questionable to play in Week 6 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the road on Sunday, per The Athletic's David Lombardi. Brock Purdy (toe) has already been ruled out for the fourth time this year due to a turf-toe injury, so the Niners are expecting the gritty Jones to play through his injuries this weekend. The 27-year-old Alabama product has been dealing with a minor PCL sprain in his knee early this season, and he suffered an oblique injury in last week's win over the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday night. His injuries didn't stop him from carving up the Rams' defense for over 300 yards and two touchdowns last week. While an encore probably isn't in the cards for Jones, especially without receiver Ricky Pearsall (knee), he'll be in play as a low-end QB2 in leagues that start two QBs.

From RotoBaller

Oct 9 5:00pm CT

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Mac Jones (knee, oblique) was in uniform again for Thursday's practice, but he didn't do much throwing during individual periods in the early portion that was open to the media, according to Nick Wagoner of ESPN. Wagoner added that Jones really didn't do anything behind soft tossing on Thursday. The 27-year-old came out of last Thursday night's upset win over the Los Angeles Rams pretty banged up, but the Niners think he should be OK to make a fourth start in Week 6 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Brock Purdy (toe) has yet to practice this week and looks to be on track to miss his fourth game of the year after aggravating his turf-toe injury in Week 4. Jones will likely be listed as limited in practice for the second straight day, but he should be good to go this weekend. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect an encore against Tampa after Jones cooked against L.A.'s defense in Week 5.

From RotoBaller

Oct 9 11:10am CT

San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch reports that quarterback Mac Jones (knee, oblique) should be ok for Sunday's matchup with the hosting Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The former Alabama Crimson Tide aggravated a PCL injury in Week 5's overtime win over the Los Angeles Rams, causing him to be a limited participant in Wednesday's practice session. Per Lynch's comments, it doesn't appear to be a concern. He'd also note that fellow signal-caller Brock Purdy (toe) is "working to get back but wants to get back at full strength," hinting that he may be a few weeks away. If, for some reason, neither athlete can suit up in Week 6, Adrian Martinez will get the nod at Raymond James Stadium.
