2024 RTSports Outlook

Murray suffered a torn ACL late last year, ending his season after Week 14. He was having a decent season before the injury. He had six games with 20-plus fantasy points. He had multiple touchdowns six of 11 games. He was very accurate, having the sixth best on target percentage (77.9 percent) in football. Murray did struggled with turnovers, though, having seven interceptions and two lost fumbles. He averaged almost a turnover per game. Murray gets a new coaching staff to work with this year, which could have a negative impact on his fantasy value. The offense he played in the last few years was very run and gun. It might be a tad more conservative this season. Murray remains the face of the franchise, though, and will be the starter for years to come. He might not be ready for the start of this year because of his torn ACL recovery. Murray has a great arm, can make all the throws and use his legs as an asset offensively. He is the complete package at quarterback. He does continue to make bad decisions at times and looks rattled when facing pressure.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: If you draft Murray this year, make sure you get a good backup to start while Murray recovers from his knee injury. He could be back to his old self by about midseason, though, and be a big fantasy factor down the stretch. Murray can be a solid No. 1 for fantasy teams. Look for around 3,000-passing yards, 25 total touchdowns and eight or so interceptions.

RotoBaller's Outlook

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray (knee) will stay on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list to start the season. He won't be eligible to play the season's first four games. Before suffering a torn ACL in Week 14, Murray was enjoying another strong fantasy season in 2022. The former No. 1 overall pick was on pace for over 4,000 passing yards and 700 rushing yards if he played an entire 17-game season. Murray finished outside the weekly top-12 quarterbacks on just two occasions before his season-ending injury. He finished with 2,368 passing yards and a 14:7 TD: INT ratio while rushing for 418 yards and three scores over 11 games. The injury remains a big question mark looming over Murray's fantasy value this season. Arizona has a new coaching staff and a first-time playcaller in Drew Petzing. His top target from 2022,DeAndre Hopkins, was released and signed a contract with the Tennessee Titans during the offseason. The 25-year-old will have wide receivers Marquise Brown and Rondale Moore as his only reliable pass-catching targets. The bottom line is that Murray will run at a different rate than he did before his injury and lose some of his fantasy sparkles. With so much up in the air and sidelined for the first four games, he's not a quarterback to target in upcoming fantasy drafts.

The Arizona Cardinals have been open for business at the No. 4 overall pick in the upcoming NFL draft, and The Athletic's Jeff Howe speculates that they might be a match for a trade with the Minnesota Vikings, who are looking to trade up within the top-five picks for a new franchise quarterback after losing Kirk Cousins to the Atlanta Falcons. The Washington Commanders (No. 2) and New England Patriots (No. 3) probably won't want to move all the way back to No. 11, miss out on a QB and likely be out of the mix for a top-tier receiver and left tackle. Arizona traded the No. 3 pick to the Texans just last year, and they are committed to QB Kyler Murray, which means they could welcome another trade down the board to accumulate more first-rounders as they attempt to acquire difference-makers around Murray on offense.

The Arizona Cardinals are expected to sign Cincinnati Bengals free-agent offensive tackle Jonah Williams to a two-year deal worth $30 million, according to sources. The announcement comes just after the Cardinals released previous starting left tackle D.J. Humphries. Williams was considered one of the top offensive tackles on the open market this offseason, so this is a big win for Arizona's offense. The 26-year-old should now slot in as the team's starting right tackle to help protect quarterback Kyler Murray. Williams was taken with the 11th overall pick in 2019 out of Alabama, and he started all 59 games he played in for the Bengals the last four years, including 17 at right tackle in 2023.

Feb 21 2:30pm ET

Arizona Cardinals offensive tackle D.J. Humphries (knee) has been an anchor for the team's offensive line since he entered the league in 2016. He's been a team captain and a respected voice in the locker room. However, he just turned 30 years old and he's likely to miss most of the 2024 season while recovering from surgery on his ACL. Humphries will have a $22.9 million salary cap number this year, and cutting him would save the Cardinals around $9 million. General manager Monti Ossenfort has more work to do with the team's offensive line this season, even though they exceeded expectations in 2023. If the team moves on from Humphries, Paris Johnson Jr., who had an impressive rookie season at right tackle, could move over to the left side to protect quarterback Kyler Murray's blind side.

Feb 16 2:40pm ET

The Arizona Cardinals definitely could use more playmakers on offense to help out quarterback Kyler Murray, but The Athletic's Doug Haller thinks defense should be the bigger priority in the upcoming NFL draft. Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. could be available when the Cardinals pick at No. 4 overall, and it would be hard for them to pass him up there. However, they have lacked a lockdown cornerback for years and also need an edge rusher. Above all else, they need an anchor on the defensive line that general manager Monti Ossenfort can build around. If Harrison isn't available early in Round 1, don't be surprised if Arizona addresses their defensive-line needs.

In the final game of the 2023 season, Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray showcased flashes of his pre-injury brilliance, completing 22 of 30 pass attempts for 262 yards and a touchdown. Adding 33 rushing yards on five attempts, Murray closed the season on a high note, reminiscent of his dual-threat prowess. The 27-year-old's performance in the last two outings reflected his potential for a bounce-back season in 2024. Following his return from ACL surgery in Week 10, Murray struggled to regain his fantasy stud status. However, if he can maintain numbers close to his recent performances, averaging 241.3 passing yards, 29.7 rushing yards per game, and a 6:1 TD: INT ratio, fantasy managers can anticipate a resurgence from the dynamic two-sport athlete.

In Week 18, Arizona Cardinals' quarterback Kyler Murray carries the momentum from a stellar performance against the Eagles into a matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. Completing over 80% of his passes and scoring three touchdowns in a comeback victory in Week 17, Murray showcased his quarterback prowess. While his rushing output was modest, Murray remains a dual-threat force, ranking seventh in rushing yards and red zone carries per game. Despite his recent struggles as a passer, the Seahawks' defense, which has shown vulnerability in recent weeks, presents an opportunity for Murray to exploit. Since Week 12, Seattle has allowed significant passing yards, high yards per attempt, and a notable passer rating. With Murray's ability to capitalize on defensive weaknesses and a track record of at least 20 fantasy points in four of seven starts, deploying him in Week 18 could prove rewarding for fantasy managers. Murray is a QB1 for this matchup.

Arizona Cardinals offensive tackle D.J. Humphries (knee) suffered a torn ACL in the team's Week 17 upset win over the Philadelphia Eagles. It's a tough blow for the veteran and the team with just one week remaining in the regular season. The 2015 first-round selection out of the University of Florida has started 98 games for the organization and has been an above-average tackle for most of his career. The team has a potential out in his contract after this season, and the injury could play a factor in that decision. Kelvin Beachum will be in charge of protecting Kyler Murray's blindside against Seattle in Week 18.

Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon said that there is "no doubt" that quarterback Kyler Murray will open the 2024 season later this year as the Cardinals' starting QB. "'Number 1' is our franchise quarterback," Gannon said. Since Murray made his 2023 season debut in Week 10, the Cardinals are 3-4 and just upset the Philadelphia Eagles 35-31 on Sunday. There had been questions as to whether the Cardinals would even play Murray for much of the year while he was rehabbing a torn ACL he suffered late in the 2022 season. Arizona will be looking to build around Murray in this year's draft instead of replacing him under center. With a normal offseason upcoming for Murray, he'll be a midrange QB1 target for fantasy managers in drafts this fall.

Cardinals' QB Kyler Murray scored 27.00 fantasy points in Sunday's Week 17 win in Philadelphia. Murray threw for 232 yards on 25-of-31 with three touchdowns and one interception including a pick-6 .

Jan 1 3:30am ET

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray engineered a stunning comeback in Week 17, completing 25 of 31 passes for 232 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception in the Cardinals' dramatic 35-31 triumph over the Eagles. Murray's three touchdown strikes found Michael Wilson, Michael Carter, and James Conner, showcasing his precision and playmaking prowess. While his rushing output was more subdued at 24 yards on five carries, Murray's masterful accuracy on his throws was instrumental in erasing a halftime deficit. This game marked a notable improvement in Murray's passing, reflecting positively on his health and overall performance. As the Cardinals look ahead to Week 18 against the Seahawks, Murray's resurgence bodes well for fantasy managers concluding the season.

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray (illness) is officially active for Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Murray had missed back-to-back practices before returning in a limited capacity on Friday, but he was trending in the right direction prior to kickoff. Indeed, as head coach Jonathan Gannon suggested on Friday, Murray is feeling better and will play. The young quarterback has impressed over the course of six games this season, accruing 1,305 passing yards, six passing touchdowns, and four interceptions while adding an additional 187 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. He'll rank as a fringe QB1 in most fantasy leagues this week.

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray (illness) is expected to play in Week 17 despite being listed as questionable, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Murray had missed back-to-back practices before returning in a limited capacity on Friday, though head coach Jonathan Gannon was clearly optimistic about his quarterback's availability for the Cardinals' penultimate regular-season contest. Murray has impressed over the course of six games this season, accruing 1,305 passing yards, six passing touchdowns, and four interceptions while adding an additional 187 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. Dec 30 2:50am ET

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray heads into Week 17 with a questionable designation due to an illness that kept him out of practice earlier in the week. The Cardinals' official site reports that he returned on Friday as a limited participant, and coach Jonathan Gannon expects him to play. Murray's season has been a tale of dualities -; excelling as the QB1 in half his starts, primarily fueled by his impressive rushing stats, while struggling in passing metrics. Facing the Eagles, who have been vulnerable through the air recently, presents an opportunity for Murray to exploit their 12th-ranked defense against the pass. Fantasy managers can cautiously rely on his dynamic playmaking, and as Murray continues his recovery, optimistic eyes are set on a positive performance in the Week 17 matchup. Assuming he plays, Kyler can safely be viewed as a QB2 for championship week.

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray (illness) practiced in a limited capacity on Friday and is officially questionable to play against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 17. He had been unable to practice on Wednesday and Thursday, so this latest development should be viewed as a step in the right direction. Nevertheless, Murray's availability for Sunday will depend on his condition and how he feels. Managers invested in his status should stay tuned for the Cardinals' official list of inactives, which will be released 90 minutes before kickoff. If Murray is inactive, rookie Clayton Tune would draw the start in his place.

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray (illness) was present during the period of practice open to the media on Thursday, but he was in street clothes and it looks like he still has a "holiday bug" that head coach Jonathan Gannon described on Wednesday. Murray has been under the weather this week, but he should return to practice on Friday and play on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles on the road. Although the Cardinals' signal-caller may be without top wideout Marquise Brown (heel) for a second straight game, he'll have low-end Q1 appeal against an Eagles defense that has been a great matchup for opposing quarterbacks in fantasy this year. The 26-year-old has been a top-12 fantasy QB in the six games he's played in 2023 after getting a late start while recovering from a torn ACL he suffered in 2022.

Dec 27 12:40pm ET

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray (illness) has a "holiday bug" and won't practice on Wednesday, according to head coach Jonathan Gannon. However, there isn't any concern about Murray's availability the rest of the week or for the Week 17 game against the Philadelphia Eagles. The 26-year-old signal-caller has enough time to rest up and get his energy back up for Sunday's contest. Murray threw for 230 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 16 loss to the Chicago Bears without his top receiver in Marquise Brown (heel) in a tough matchup. He got a late start to the 2023 season while recovering from a torn ACL in his knee, but since making his season debut in Week 10, Murray is averaging 18.2 fantasy points per game, which is tied for 12th at the position this year.

Dec 25 2:50am ET

In the Cardinals' 27-16 loss to the Bears, Arizona quarterback Kyler Murray showcased his dual-threat prowess, going 23-for-37 with 208 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. He orchestrated a nine-play, 75-yard drive culminating in a touchdown pass to James Conner late in the second quarter. Notably, eight of the Cardinals' initial nine drives struggled to surpass 30 yards, while Murray's 32 yards on five carries mirrored his weekly rushing average. Operating without top receiver Marquise Brown (heel), Murray faced challenges, yet his two touchdown passes marked a season-high. Looking ahead to Week 17 against the Eagles, Murray's performance may improve with the potential return of Brown, adding an optimistic outlook for fantasy managers. As such, Kyler remains a QB2 for Week 17.

From RotoBaller

Dec 23 3:30am ET

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray's Week 15 performance presented a mixed bag as he completed 26 of 39 passes for 211 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions, adding 49 rushing yards. Despite a brief absence due to a midsection hit, Murray's return was swift, with his surgically repaired knee unaffected. He struggled as a passer and his rushing prowess couldn't help salvage his fantasy output. In Week 16, facing a Bears' defense that has stifled opposing quarterbacks, Murray enters a challenging matchup. The Bears, ranking seventh in fewest yards per attempt, passing touchdowns, and CPOE allowed since Week 10, pose a formidable obstacle. Fantasy managers must weigh Murray's dual-threat ability against the Bears' defensive prowess when considering starting him in this critical Week 16 matchup. As such, he remains on the low end of the QB2 spectrum.

Dec 18 3:10am ET

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray completed 26 of 39 pass attempts for 211 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions in the team's Week 15 loss to the 49ers. He also added 49 rushing yards on six attempts. Going up against one of the best defensive units in the league, it was not one of the better outings for Murray or the Arizona offense. On a positive note, Murray did help his team take an early lead before throwing a crucial interception towards the end of the first quarter that shifted momentum back to San Fran. Later in the game, Murray was also able to throw a TD pass to help salvage the mediocre performance. Even though Kyler had to leave at one point due to injury, he later returned and should be good to go for a Week 16 clash against the Chicago Bears.

From RotoBaller

Dec 16 2:10am ET

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray had a solid showing in the team's Week 13 win against the Pittsburgh Steelers and should be ready to go fresh off the team's Week 14 bye. The matchup, however, isn't a great one, as the Cardinals will take on the San Francisco 49ers, who currently boast the league's top defense. Despite the tough matchup, the possibility exists that the 49ers could be missing up to seven of their defensive players, thereby opening a slight window for Murray. While he isn't a must-sit, Murray has yet to throw multiple touchdown passes in a game and San Francisco has allowed the seventh-fewest fantasy points per game to the position over the last five weeks. Even though Murray's rushing ability gives him a better floor than most, the brutal matchup makes Kyler no better than a low-end QB2.
