Sack or negative yard run?

Postby DustinStacy » Wed Dec 19, 2018 6:33 pm

Just wondering how RTSPORTS changed a sack to a -4 rush by Lamar Jackson last week. I watched the entire game. The chiefs only had 2 sacks and still have 2 sacks for week 14. My understanding of a sack would be QB getting tackled for a loss of yards. If he makes it past line of scrimmage it’s a run other wise a sack.

It's not as clear cut as that, if the statisticians decide the QB was intending to run they call it a tackle for loss and not a sack. That may have happened after the game in this case. I think you're referring to this play:
(1:52 - OT) (Shotgun) L.Jackson left tackle at BLT 41 for -4 yards (J.Houston, D.Ford). BLT-L.Jackson was injured during the play. Penalty on BLT-J.Hurst, Offensive Holding, declined.

There were 2 other sacks in the game:
(9:33 - 1st) (Shotgun) L.Jackson sacked at BLT 30 for -7 yards (C.Jones).
0:44 - 4th) (Shotgun) L.Jackson sacked at BLT 30 for -6 yards (J.Houston). FUMBLES (J.Houston), RECOVERED by KC-J.Houston at BLT 23. J.Houston to BLT 23 for no gain (L.Jackson).
