RTSports Top 100 Dynasty Prospects

Dynasty baseball gives us such a unique and fun dynamic that is hard to find in other sports: prospect-watching. I've been playing dynasty baseball for the majority of my life, and I love it. The Dylan Bundy's and Victor Robles' of the world will break your heart, but it doesn't get better than watching Juan Soto take his first 600 at bats.

The following list is my take on the top 100 prospects to own in your dynasty league. Players are ranked on a combination of upside, proximity to the majors, the organization they're in, and risk factor. Pitchers are inherently risky as the human body simply isn't made to throw a baseball 95-plus miles per hour over a thousand times a year. Pitchers that are smaller in stature (Jack Leiter) or larger (Eury Perez) get a slight bump down as well because there's a proven build that works best for starting pitchers. Other risk factors for all players include developing tools and prior injuries.

The bats will outweigh the arms on this list, but that doesn't mean a good arm isn't a valuable option for your farm system. A player's organization has some impact on their ranking. This can impact a player in the form of being blocked at the MLB (i.e MJ Melendez behind Salvador Perez), park factors (Zac Veen in Colorado), and the organization's history of prospect development [Astros = good, Phillies = bad (you'll always be in our hearts, Scott Kingery and Alec Bohm)].

I'll use the 20-80 scale for Overall Future Potential (OFP) with 80 being the best grade possible. This is a measurement of what a player's best possible outcome could be based on their tools and production. An 80 OFP is equivalent to a first round redraft talent. A 50 OFP player is a bench piece that you're fine with having. You can figure out everything else in between.

I'll throw in a plus sign on grade because not every player with the same grade is truly the same. You may see a player with a higher OFP grade ranked lower than a player with a lower OFP grade. Their risk factors and estimated time of debut would be the reasoning for such. Grayson Rodriguez has the potential to be the best pitcher in baseball, but the days of 220 inning workhorses are a thing of the past. The bats in front of him are better bets for more cumulative production and lower risk of significant injury.

One last side note - this is a fantasy rankings list. Defensive skills aren't considered apart from slightly raising a player's floor by providing an opportunity for playing time. Lack of defensive skills have even less impact on rankings with the only real impact being the potential for a player to switch to a less valuable position (i.e shortstop to outfield).

To qualify for the list, all players must have less than 130 at bats in the MLB, less than 50 innings pitched, and less than 45 days of service time on an active MLB roster. All player ages are as of 11/19/2021. Let's dive in.
