Max Scherzer fired four hitless innings and four relievers completed the 2-hit shutout as Toronto edged Philadelphia 1-0 on Saturday afternoon in Clearwater, Fla.

The 41-year-old Scherzer posted one strikeout and one walk in his spring-training debut. Chase Lee, Josh Fleming, Lazaro Estrada and Connor Seabold combined for five strikeouts and one walk.

Jonatan Clase drove in the lone run in the ninth with a fielder's choice as the Phils could not complete the inning-ending double play.

Prized prospect Andrew Painter hurled three scoreless innings for the Phillies as he gave up one hit and one walk. Relievers Jose Alvarado and Jhoan Duran threw an inning apiece and each posted two strikeouts with one hit.

Astros 5, Marlins 4

Collin Price drove in Pascanel Ferreras with a single as Houston walked off Miami in West Palm Beach, Fla.

Walker Janek poked a 2-run homer for the Astros off Cade Gibson in the sixth while Joey Loperfido went 2-for-2 with a stolen base. Starter Jason Alexander allowed two hits and two walks over three scoreless innings.

Marlins starter Chris Paddack also tossed three scoreless innings as he fanned two and allowed two hits. Outfielders Matthew Etzel and Brendan Jones posted two hits apiece while Etzel drove in two runs.

Orioles (ss) 2, Braves 2

Baltimore rallied for two runs in the ninth as Jordan Sanchez stroked an RBI triple and 19-year-old Jaiden Lo Re provided an RBI single to forge a tie with Atlanta in Venice, Fla.

Austin Riley and Mike Yastrzemski cracked back-to-back solo homers in the sixth to give the Braves the lead. Starter Grant Holmes authored 2 2/3 innings of scoreless ball with three strikeouts, three walks and two hits.

Cameron Weston struck out four and allowed just one hit and one walk over three innings of scoreless relief for the Orioles. Reed Trimble went 2-for-4 and led off the ninth-inning rally with a double.

Heston Kjerstad cracked a two-run homer in the sixth to help Baltimore's home squad claim a victory over Minnesota in Sarasota, Fla.

Orioles starter Cade Povich allowed one run and one hit to go with one strikeout and one walk in his 3 2/3-inning stint. Coby Mayo drove in the game-winning run with a seventh-inning double.

Twins starter Mick Abel gave up two singles over four scoreless innings as he posted two strikeouts. James Outman went 1-for-3 with an RBI and two stolen bases while Brooks Lee added two hits.

Red Sox 2, Rays 0 (6 innings)

Johan Oviedo combined with three relievers to toss a 3-hit shutout as Boston prevailed over Tampa Bay during a truncated game in Fort Myers, Fla.

Oviedo fanned four and scattered two hits over 3 1/3 innings. Relievers Wyatt Olds, Aroldis Chapman and Zack Kelly combined for one whiff and one hit allowed. Justin Gonzales knocked in Caleb Durbin for the game's lone RBI.

Rays starter Ty Johnson gave up one run over 2 1/3 innings while amassing three strikeouts and two walks. Narciso Polanco poked a double for the game's lone extra-base hit.

Pirates 5, Tigers 3

Tom Harrington fired four innings of scoreless relief to earn the save as Pittsburgh never trailed against Detroit in Lakeland, Fla.

Mitch Jebb cracked a triple and scored a run off the bench for the Pirates, who watched prized prospect Konnor Griffin go 1-for-4 with two strikeouts to boost his spring average to .200. Starter Hunter Barco allowed three runs and three hits over three innings.

Tigers starter Casey Mize gave up four hits and three runs (two earned) during his 3 1/3-inning stint. Austin Slater cracked a two-run double out of the leadoff spot while Kerry Carpenter notched a triple.

Mets 3, Cardinals 2

Wyatt Young's RBI single with two outs in the eighth lifted New York to the victory over St. Louis in Jupiter, Fla.

Kyle Leahy fired four perfect innings with five strikeouts for the Cardinals. Joshua Baez and Miguel Ugueto staked St. Louis to a 2-0 lead with solo homers while Alec Burleson went 3-for-3.

Mets starter Kodai Senga surrendered those homers as part of his 2 2/3-inning stint that included two strikeouts and one more hit allowed. Brett Baty went 2-for-3 with a stolen base and Mike Tauchman contributed an RBI double.
