New York Mets infielder Grae Kessinger will be sidelined at least eight to 12 weeks with a "pretty significant injury" to his left hamstring, manager Carlos Mendoza said Sunday.

Mendoza added that surgery is "on the table" for Kessinger, who was trying to make the Opening Day roster as a utility player.

Kessinger, 28, signed with the Mets in free agency on Feb. 3. He has not played in the majors since the 2024 season with the Houston Astros.

A second-round draft pick by Houston in 2019, Kessinger batted .131 with one homer and one RBI in 48 games for the Astros from 2023-24. He saw action at shortstop and first, second and third base.

Kessinger was released by the Arizona Diamondbacks on April 20, 2025 after batting .235 with three RBIs in 11 games at Triple-A Reno.
