New York Yankees star outfielder Aaron Judge officially was placed on the injured list Friday with a stress fracture of his right rib, while outfielder Spencer Jones was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wikes-Barre.

Judge's IL move is retroactive to Tuesday.

Judge, 34, will undergo more testing in approximately four to six weeks to review his progress and determine the steps going forward.

New York's captain sat out the team's three-game series this week against the Cleveland Guardians, who won two of three at Yankee Stadium.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that Judge had been playing through the injury for weeks. The three-time American League MVP is hitting just .163 with one homer and eight RBIs in 13 games since May 17.

Judge is tied with Ben Rice for the team lead in home runs (17) and has 10 doubles, 38 RBIs and five stolen bases while batting .248 through 59 games.

Judge, a seven-time All-Star, is a lifetime .291 hitter with 385 homers, 868 RBIs, 213 doubles and 70 stolen bases in 1,204 games with the Yankees.

Jones, 25, made his major league debut May 8 and went 4-for-24 (.167) with two RBIs over 10 games. The former No. 25 overall draft pick in 2022 out of Vanderbilt was batting .269 with 13 home runs and 48 RBIs in 43 games at Triple-A this season.

Also, Yankees outfielder Jasson Dominguez (left shoulder) begins a rehab stint at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday. He is 6-for-30 (.200) with a homer in nine games for New York this season.
