Tyler Black Wed May 1 12:20pm ET

Milwaukee Brewers infield prospect Tyler Black is starting at first base and is batting cleanup in just his second major-league game on Wednesday against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays and right-hander Zach Eflin. In his big-league debut on Tuesday, the 23-year-old went 2-for-4 and scored a run in the eventful win over the Rays at home. Black wasn't initially in the team's starting lineup, but he entered the contest in the first inning when catcher Gary Sanchez (hamstring) was hurt. His power/speed combination, coupled with his defensive versatility, makes him a prospect worth looking into in deep-mixed fantasy leagues, and he should see plenty of at-bats against right-handed pitchers. Black got the promotion to Milwaukee by hitting .303 (30-for-99) with five home runs, 18 RBI and three stolen bases in 25 games for Triple-A Nashville this year.

Jackson Chourio Wed May 1 12:20pm ET

Milwaukee Brewers rookie outfielder Jackson Chourio isn't in the team's starting lineup against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday. With Chourio starting on the bench in this one, Sal Frelick, who is starting in right field, will man the leadoff spot in the Brewers' batting order. Jake Bauers also draws into the lineup in left field and will man left field. The 20-year-old Chourio started his first major-league season strong, but he has since disappeared, going 4-for-29 (.138) with a double, no home runs, no RBI, one walk and 12 strikeouts in 10 games since April 21. The cold stretch has dropped his season line to .206/.257/.351 with four home runs, 13 RBI and five stolen bases in 97 at-bats. After an off day on Thursday, hopefully Chourio can get going on Friday in the series opener against the division-rival Chicago Cubs.

Jose Siri Wed May 1 12:10pm ET

Tampa Bay Rays manager Kevin Cash said that outfielder Jose Siri (thigh) is out of Wednesday's starting lineup due to soreness in his left thigh that stems from him being hit by a pitch in Tuesday's game. It was an eventful day for Siri on Tuesday, as he hit his second home run of the season and was also ejected after throwing blows with Milwaukee Brewers relief pitcher Abner Uribe in a benches-clearing incident. Fantasy managers should expect the 28-year-old to be handed down a suspension of at least a couple games in the near future. Despite going 1-for-2 with the home run on Tuesday, Siri is hitting just .186 (16-for-86) on the year with seven RBI and six stolen bases through the first month of the year. Randy Arozarena is in center field and batting third, while Niko Goodrum is in left and hitting sixth on Wednesday against Brewers right-hander Colin Rea.

Isaac Paredes Wed May 1 12:10pm ET

Tampa Bay Rays infielder Isaac Paredes and outfielder/designated hitter Harold Ramirez are not in the team's starting lineup on Wednesday against the hosting Milwaukee Brewers. Curtis Mead is starting at third base and batting ninth, while Yandy Diaz is the designated hitter and batting leadoff against Brewers right-hander Colin Rea. Austin Shenton is at first base and is hitting fifth. Paredes will take a seat after starting each of the team's last 11 games. The 25-year-old has been a solid fantasy contributor with a .291/.358/.509 slash line, an .867 OPS, seven home runs and 17 RBI in 110 at-bats. Ramirez will be on the bench for the third time in the last five games and is losing playing time while going 27-for-106 (.255) to open the year with a homer, 10 RBI and three steals. With Jonathan Aranda's (finger) return on the horizon, Ramirez's fantasy stock could plummet even further.

Coby Mayo Wed May 1 11:50am ET

Baltimore Orioles third base prospect Coby Mayo went 2-for-4 with a single and three-run homer at the Triple-A level on April 30. He also struck out once and drew a pair of walks. Baltimore seems to have a surplus of hot-hitting prospects and Mayo might be the next to make his MLB debut. He's making a strong push for a promotion with his .330/.400/.652 slash line, nine home runs, and 25 RBI through 28 games this year. He has now homered in back-to-back games and also owns a four-game hitting streak.

    From RotoBaller

Jackson Holliday Wed May 1 11:50am ET

Baltimore Orioles infield prospect Jackson Holliday went 3-for-6 with two singles and a double during his Triple-A appearance on April 30. The top prospect in baseball also drove in one run, scored twice, and logged two strikeouts. Holliday put together an elite start to the minor league season and earned a promotion to the majors in the middle of April. However, he struggled tremendously in Baltimore, going 2-for-34 with 18 strikeouts over his first 10 games. The Orioles sent him back to Triple-A Norfolk, and he's gone 4-for-14 in three games since his demotion. Even if Holliday goes on another tear, the Orioles may decide to be extra patient before calling him back up to the majors given how he struggled during his first taste of big-league action. Plus, it's not like the Orioles have a shortage of minor-league talent. Third baseman Coby Mayo has arguably been even more productive than Holliday, so he could be the next prospect to get the call.

Paul Skenes Wed May 1 11:40am ET

Pittsburgh Pirates pitching prospect Paul Skenes, the No. 1 pick in last year's MLB Draft, spun another gem during his sixth minor league appearance of the season on April 30. The 21-year-old right-hander tossed six shutout innings, recording seven strikeouts along the way. He surrendered just one walk and four hits. 2024 has certainly treated Skenes well; the former LSU standout has allowed just one earned run through 23 innings of work, dropping his FIP to 0.91. He has also forced plenty of weak contact (52.5 GB%) and hasn't allowed a homer since he was in college. No team ever wants to rush their prospects to the majors, but there may be no better time than the present for Pittsburgh to promote Skenes. He has proven that he can mow down Triple-A batters, so he should get his shot in the majors sooner rather than later.

Kyle Manzardo Wed May 1 11:40am ET

Cleveland Guardians first base prospect Kyle Manzardo went 2-for-5 with a double and solo homer on April 30. He currently owns a three-game hitting streak and has ultimately got on base in five consecutive contests. The 23-year-old left-hander has already launched seven homers this year, and he owns a strong .991 OPS. Furthermore, he's maintained a 12.7 BB% and 17.3 K%, both impressive marks for someone with significant power. Manzardo was dealt from Tampa Bay to Cleveland last summer and is now pushing hard to make his MLB debut this May.

Jon Gray Wed May 1 10:20am ET

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jon Gray put together an excellent performance against the Washington Nationals on Tuesday evening. The veteran fired eight innings of one-run ball and allowed three hits with no walks and three strikeouts. Gray has been off to a very hot start this season with a 2.48 ERA in seven games (six starts) to go along with 35 strikeouts in 32 2/3 innings. Gray has been a workhorse for the Rangers this season and is worthy of consideration in all formats with his early season success. The veteran will look to continue his strong season versus the Royals on Sunday and managers can safely dial him up in that outing.

    From RotoBaller

Christian Walker Wed May 1 10:10am ET

Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Christian Walker played hero for the club in Tuesday's victory against the division rival Los Angeles Dodgers. The slugger went 3-for-5 with two homers, including a walk-off, two-run homer off Nabil Crismatt in the bottom of the 10th inning. Walker is now hitting .283 with seven homers and 22 RBI over his first 113 at-bats. Even at age 33, Walker continues to remain an underrated player with his ability to hit for plenty of power without sinking ones batting average. He should be rostered in most formats and will look to keep it going on Wednesday when the Diamondbacks finish their series against the Dodgers and ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

    From RotoBaller

Andres Munoz Wed May 1 10:00am ET

Seattle Mariners closer Andres Munoz recorded his fifth save of the season versus the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday evening. Munoz was summoned to get the final five outs of the ballgame and he did so with three strikeouts. He also allowed a hit and a walk. Munoz has a fantastic swing-and-miss arsenal and now has a 2.25 ERA to go along with 12 K/9. If there has been one blemish for Munoz, it has been that he has walked seven batters in 12 innings of work, but his ability to rack up strikeouts has helped him get out of any jams. He should be rostered in all formats moving as one of the better closers in the league.

    From RotoBaller

Jeimer Candelario Wed May 1 9:50am ET

Cincinnati Reds corner infielder Jeimer Candelario went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's loss against the San Diego Padres. The round tripper was the third of the season for the offseason acquisition. Candelario has struggled early on with his new club to the tune of a .189 batting average and nine RBI. Candelario has been a good source of pop in the past, but he has not been hitting the ball hard this season and the results have shown. It is still early enough in the season to be patient, but managers in smaller leagues can think about swapping him out for a player swinging a hot bat or one with more upside at this point.

    From RotoBaller

Yu Darvish Wed May 1 9:50am ET

Returning from the 15-day injured list on Tuesday, San Diego Padres starting pitcher Yu Darvish did not miss a beat. Darvish tossed five innings and allowed three hits with no runs or walks and three strikeouts against the Cincinnati Reds. It was Darvish's first start since April 14 as he dealt with neck stiffness. Darvish had a bit of a down season in 2023, but he has bounced back so far in 2023 with a 3.45 ERA over his first 28 2/3 innings. His strikeouts are down at the moment versus his career numbers, but there is still plenty of time for that to improve. Darvish is worth rostering in all formats and will face the Chicago Cubs early next week.

    From RotoBaller

Robert Suarez Wed May 1 9:40am ET

San Diego Padres closer Robert Suarez worked a perfect 1-2-3 inning to secure his 10th of the season on Tuesday versus the Cincinnati Reds. Suarez recorded one strikeout and lowered his ERA to pristine 0.71 on the season. Suarez has been dominant out of the bullpen for the Padres and hasn't made the club miss former closer Josh Hader, who left to sign with the Houston Astros this offseason. Suarez hasn't struck out many batters this season with 11 in 12 2/3 innings, but he continues to get the job done and should be rostered in all formats.

    From RotoBaller

Ryan Jeffers Wed May 1 9:30am ET

Minnesota Twins catcher Ryan Jeffers went 1-for-3 on Tuesday versus the Chicago White Sox. Jeffers lone hit was a single, but he has quietly been putting together a strong campaign behind the dish. The 26-year-old is hitting .295 and has five homers with 17 RBI. Managers couldn't ask for more from behind the dish and Jeffers is delivering it at a much lower price than other top tier catchers. The backstop hasn't been hitting the ball hard and his average exit velocity is a weak 83.9, so managers should expect a regression in the future. Despite that, Jeffers makes good contact with nice pop in his bat, so he should continue to be valuable throughout the season. Jeffers should remain rostered in most 10-team leagues moving forward.

    From RotoBaller

Jack Flaherty Wed May 1 2:25am ET

Tigers' SP Jack Flaherty recorded 14 strikeouts in 6.2 innings in a 2-1 loss to the Cardinals on Tuesday, Apr. 30.

Josh Hader Wed May 1 1:00am ET

Houston Astros closer Josh Hader put the work in to earn his first win of the season in Tuesday's 8-9 extra-innings win over the Guardians. Hader came in to pitch the top of the ninth inning with the game tied. He allowed a leadoff walk but got the next three hitters out. He allowed the automatic runner to score in the 10th inning off a double but escaped otherwise. The Astros walked it off in the bottom half of the inning, making Hader the pitcher of record. His final stat line was one unearned run in two innings of work on one hit and one walk with four strikeouts. Hader has been inconsistent to this point and is now 1-2 with two saves, a 6.39 ERA, a 14.92 K/9 rate, and a 4.26 BB/9 rate in 12 2.3 IP.

    From RotoBaller

Mason Miller Wed May 1 1:00am ET

Oakland Athletics closer Mason Miller continued to flash his electric stuff in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Pirates, picking up his eighth save of the season. Miller entered to pitch the top of the ninth inning up by three and struck out the side to end the game. The 25-year-old has been stellar to this point, converting all of his save opportunities with a 1.35 ERA and an 18.90 K/9 rate. His strikeout upside alone provides fantasy value, and he should continue to be a solid fantasy contributor if the A's keep playing relatively well.

    From RotoBaller

Jose Berrios Wed May 1 12:50am ET

Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Jose Berrios pitched well but took the loss in Tuesday's 4-1 game against the Royals. Berrios pitched seven innings, allowing two runs on five hits (including a two-run home run) and a walk with three strikeouts. He also hit a batter. The 29-year-old has been excellent overall this season, going 4-2 with a 1.44 ERA in seven starts and 43 2/3 IP. He will look to keep things going in his next start, which will likely be at the Phillies.

    From RotoBaller

Victor Caratini Wed May 1 12:50am ET

Houston Astros catcher Victor Caratini played the hero in Tuesday's 9-8 extra-innings win over the Guardians. Caratini came into the game to pinch-hit in the bottom of the 10th inning with the game tied, two outs, and a runner on third. He lined a fastball just over the right-center wall to end the game. The 30-year-old has hit well in limited playing time, slashing .314/.368/.571 with two HR and eight RBI in 38 plate appearances. He will likely need to get more frequent at-bats before he can provide meaningful fantasy value in deeper two-catcher leagues.
