You are 100% right in pointing out the problems with the Bears ownership.

The Bears ownership is a tragedy, as well as most of the other Chicago teams.

Coaching in Chicago is maddening. In my favorite management book:

Leadership Secrets of Attila the Hun

he points out that as a leader, Attila was tasked with putting his generals in a position to take advantage of their strengths and avoid their weaknesses. What did the Bears do to Fields? Keep forcing him into his area of weakness and out of his area of strength.

With Keenen added, I have to assume now that Fields is gone. Watch out for how well Mooney will do now who was wide open much more than you would imagine in Chicago (even after they totally changed his route trees from what worked in his great year).

As an outsider to the Bears, but GB are my boys so pretty familiar with the Bears situation. I believe the problem is the front office, specifically the President and GM who keep hiring coaches and staffs.

What are your thoughts on Bears ownership?

When the Rams left LA, my choices for new team came down to Bears (love Sweetness) and Packers (love the community ownership and small town nature of the team) and the community aspect won.

You stated an impossibility LOL:

"then I hire offensively gifted coaches and develop him"

Makes perfect sense! LOL, the Bears have never done that. Getsy went 2 full half seasons before he started to call designed runs for Fields. Only then did he do halfway decent.

Here are some fast QB's (Lamar Jackson has an unofficial time of 4.34, 90% of his runs are designed & he says he would rather pass than run) List of fastest times:

Rank Player Year 40-yard dash time
1 Michael Vick 2001 4.33 seconds
2 Reggie McNeal 2006 4.40 seconds
3 Robert Griffin III 2012 4.41 seconds
4 Anthony Richardson 2023 4.43 seconds
5 Justin Fields 2021 4.45 seconds

With that info the Bears coaching wanted him to be a pocket passer. Duh!

Some more times:

Here are the five fastest quarterback 40-yard dashes ever at the NFL combine:

  • 1. Reggie McNeal: 4.35 (2006)
  • 2. Robert Griffin III: 4.41 (2012)
  • 3. Anthony Richardson: 4.43 (2023)
  • 4. Marcus Vick: 4.47 (2006)
  • T-5. Max Duggan: 4.52 (2023)
  • T-5. Desmond Ridder: 4.52 (2022)
  • T-5. Marcus Mariota: 4.52 (2015)
  • T-5. Tyrod Taylor: 4.52 (2011)

Hurts ran a 4.59.

Josh Allen ran a 4.76

Dobbs ran a 4.64

2023 QB stats: sorted for yards run

 1. Lamar Jackson BAL 16 307 457 3,678 24 7 148 821 5 392.0 24.5

 5. Joshua Dobbs ARI 13 262 417 2,464 13 10 77 421 6 253.3 19.5
 6. Patrick Mahomes KC 16 401 597 4,184 27 14 75 389 0 356.1 22.3
 7. Russell Wilson DEN 15 297 447 3,070 26 8 80 341 3 309.6 20.6
 8. Trevor Lawrence JAC 16 370 564 4,016 21 14 70 339 4 342.7 21.4
 9. Sam Howell WAS 17 388 612 3,945 21 21 48 263 5 337.6 19.9
 10. Bryce Young CAR 16 315 526 2,877 11 10 39 253 0 213.2 13.3
 11. Jordan Love GB 17 372 579 4,159 32 11 50 247 4 384.7 22.6
 12. Kyler Murray ARI 8 176 268 1,799 10 5 44 244 3 172.4 21.5

A final point, the 1985 Bears won the Superbowl. Their defense was offensive! We wanted the defense on the field so we could gain yardage or score. Buddy Ryan was the best defensive coach ever. The Bears fired him and kept Mike Ditka. LOL their example of an offensive coach LOL. Never won a Superbowl since.

I like your ideas though, they make sense. But Bears coaches are lacking sense.

I am also a Bears fan, and although I like Justin, I just don’t see him ever being an elite QB. Caleb might not either, but I think you need to take the chance. Also, the fact that no one in the league has made an offer for Fields should tell you all you need to know.

As a lifelong Bears fan, I think it would be stupid to trade Justin Fields.

I am certain that Bear's management can pick the wrong rookie QB.

What happened to last year's number 1 QB pick?

What's your opinion? Keep or trade Fields?

I am in SoCal and a big USC fan, Caleb has a chance to be an elite QB for the right team. If I am the Bears, I would look to do a bridge deal with Justin on an extension $30M per year for 3-4 yrs and if he takes it I trade back as many times as I can, then I hire offensively gifted coaches and develop him (he has a tremendous amount of talent). If he is looking for $40M+, then I trade him and reset the clock on QB $s.

Don’t worry my raiders should always trade their first round pick. It would be better to just pass on the pick than the picks they have made the last 10 years.
2 Reconcussioners Wed Mar 6 10:58pm ET

Absolutely! Exactly my sentiments!

Recall that the Bears with the number #2 pick, picked Trubisky. (Passed on Mahomes, too) With that kind of expertise, they ought to be banned from picking QB's.

Keep-> trade top pick to pick 2 - then trade back again. Collect treasure of picks. Draft Harrison.
