2024 RTSports Outlook

Murray returned from his torn ACL in Week 10 and played pretty well the rest of the season, especially for fantasy teams. He had six of eight games with 20-plus fantasy points. He had touchdowns every game, including four with multiple scores. If Murray plays a full season, he will have 3,823 yards, 28 total touchdowns, and 519 rushing yards. Those are some pretty good numbers. Murray remains the franchise quarterback for the Cardinals and will be almost two years removed from his torn ACL, meaning he should be back to his usual self. Murray has a great arm, can make all the throws, and uses his legs as an offensive asset. He is the complete package at quarterback. He will make bad decisions at times, and looks rattled when facing pressure.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Murray is a solid fantasy starter. He isn't in that elite category but jut outside of that. If you want to wait on a quarterback, Murray is not a bad option. He can get around 4,000-passing yards, 30 total scores and 500-rushing yards.

RotoBaller's Outlook

Kyler Murray enduring a down year in 2023 made sense. His recovery from a torn ACL late in the 2022 season bled over into his most recent campaign, keeping the former first-overall pick on the sidelines until Week 10. Although there was nothing particularly pretty about his play once he returned (two games with more than one passing touchdown), Murray was still a QB1 (9th) in the games that he played. As is the case with any other quarterback, rushing production is a cheat code. Murray's 30.5 yards-per-game rushing average was essentially on par with Josh Allen, but that was also the second-lowest mark of Murray's five-year career. A career-low 5.5 carries per game contributed to that number. Flashback to 2022 and Murray was the QB6 and on pace for 679 rushing yards through Week 9. He was at his best when he had an alpha wide receiver in DeAndre Hopkins to connect with. Marvin Harrison Jr. enters the league with similar hype to Hopkins, plus Trey McBride is one of the league's best receiving tight ends. The Arizona offense should improve in 2024 with Murray returning to pre-injury form. For those fantasy managers who prefer to wait to select a quarterback, Murray will be a popular mid-round candidate.

Arizona Cardinals offensive tackle Paris Johnson Jr. was selected with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Ohio State, meaning he has plenty of pressure on him to become a high-end blindside protector for quarterback Kyler Murray. Johnson was credited with giving up eight sacks last year while playing right tackle, according to PFF, but he's ready to make the Year 2 leap at his more natural position on the left side. "Yeah, I think personally, just Year 2, being able to fulfill all of the expectations that I have for myself, expectations that the team has for me being here," Johnson said. "My goal ultimately is to be the best tackle in the game." Johnson developing into at least an above-average left tackle in 2024 would be a significant boost for a potential ascending offense. Kyler Murray is back and healthy, and the team added Marvin Harrison Jr. and Trey Benson to bolster its skill position group this offseason. Arizona could be an underrated offense for fantasy football.

The Athletic's Doug Haller writes that there is a lot of optimism from the Arizona Cardinals this offseason, with the biggest reason being that quarterback Kyler Murray is on the field. Murray was off to the side working with the team's conditioning staff at this time last year while trying to recover from ACL surgery. Murray's recovery affected Arizona's entire season in 2023 after he missed the first nine games. He spent the rest of the year learning a new offense and trying to find his way back, and it showed. An offseason built around Murray should make a difference in 2024. The 26-year-old put in extra work with his receivers on weekends, trying to perfect rhythm and timing. Murray probably isn't going to be an elite passer, especially given the lack of standout options at receiver in Arizona besides rookie first-rounder Marvin Harrison Jr., but his elite rushing ability and upside should give him a solid fantasy floor as a top-10 quarterback heading into upcoming fantasy drafts.

Arizona Cardinals offensive tackle Paris Johnson Jr. will start at left tackle in 2024 after spending his rookie season on the right side, according to head coach Jonathan Gannon. Johnson was selected with the No. 6 overall pick out of Ohio State in the 2023 NFL Draft and started all 17 games in his debut campaign. Veteran D.J. Humphries occupied the left tackle spot in the desert for nine seasons, but he was released this offseason. Newly acquired veteran Jonah Williams will begin the season at right tackle. Protecting quarterback Kyler Murray and carving running lanes for James Conner and Trey Benson will be key priorities in 2024 for a potential ascending offense. Johnson Jr. will play a key part in that effort, and hopefully, he'll take a Year 2 leap after allowing eight sacks in 2023.

Dynasty | The Arizona Cardinals drafted Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. with the fourth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Dynasty Analysis: The Cardinals decided to stand pat in the draft and took Harrison with the fourth overall selection. He should immediately take over as the top option for Kyler Murray in the desert and is in place to immediately become a big factor in dynasty leagues. Simply put, Harrison has the talent, pedigree and skill set to be an immediate WR1 and should be the top overall position player taken in rookie drafts this off-season.

The Arizona Cardinals have been open for business at the No. 4 overall pick in the upcoming NFL draft, and The Athletic's Jeff Howe speculates that they might be a match for a trade with the Minnesota Vikings, who are looking to trade up within the top-five picks for a new franchise quarterback after losing Kirk Cousins to the Atlanta Falcons. The Washington Commanders (No. 2) and New England Patriots (No. 3) probably won't want to move all the way back to No. 11, miss out on a QB and likely be out of the mix for a top-tier receiver and left tackle. Arizona traded the No. 3 pick to the Texans just last year, and they are committed to QB Kyler Murray, which means they could welcome another trade down the board to accumulate more first-rounders as they attempt to acquire difference-makers around Murray on offense.

The Arizona Cardinals are expected to sign Cincinnati Bengals free-agent offensive tackle Jonah Williams to a two-year deal worth $30 million, according to sources. The announcement comes just after the Cardinals released previous starting left tackle D.J. Humphries. Williams was considered one of the top offensive tackles on the open market this offseason, so this is a big win for Arizona's offense. The 26-year-old should now slot in as the team's starting right tackle to help protect quarterback Kyler Murray. Williams was taken with the 11th overall pick in 2019 out of Alabama, and he started all 59 games he played in for the Bengals the last four years, including 17 at right tackle in 2023.

Arizona Cardinals offensive tackle D.J. Humphries (knee) has been an anchor for the team's offensive line since he entered the league in 2016. He's been a team captain and a respected voice in the locker room. However, he just turned 30 years old and he's likely to miss most of the 2024 season while recovering from surgery on his ACL. Humphries will have a $22.9 million salary cap number this year, and cutting him would save the Cardinals around $9 million. General manager Monti Ossenfort has more work to do with the team's offensive line this season, even though they exceeded expectations in 2023. If the team moves on from Humphries, Paris Johnson Jr., who had an impressive rookie season at right tackle, could move over to the left side to protect quarterback Kyler Murray's blind side.

Feb 16 2:40pm ET

The Arizona Cardinals definitely could use more playmakers on offense to help out quarterback Kyler Murray, but The Athletic's Doug Haller thinks defense should be the bigger priority in the upcoming NFL draft. Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. could be available when the Cardinals pick at No. 4 overall, and it would be hard for them to pass him up there. However, they have lacked a lockdown cornerback for years and also need an edge rusher. Above all else, they need an anchor on the defensive line that general manager Monti Ossenfort can build around. If Harrison isn't available early in Round 1, don't be surprised if Arizona addresses their defensive-line needs.

In the final game of the 2023 season, Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray showcased flashes of his pre-injury brilliance, completing 22 of 30 pass attempts for 262 yards and a touchdown. Adding 33 rushing yards on five attempts, Murray closed the season on a high note, reminiscent of his dual-threat prowess. The 27-year-old's performance in the last two outings reflected his potential for a bounce-back season in 2024. Following his return from ACL surgery in Week 10, Murray struggled to regain his fantasy stud status. However, if he can maintain numbers close to his recent performances, averaging 241.3 passing yards, 29.7 rushing yards per game, and a 6:1 TD: INT ratio, fantasy managers can anticipate a resurgence from the dynamic two-sport athlete.

Jan 6 2:50am ET

In Week 18, Arizona Cardinals' quarterback Kyler Murray carries the momentum from a stellar performance against the Eagles into a matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. Completing over 80% of his passes and scoring three touchdowns in a comeback victory in Week 17, Murray showcased his quarterback prowess. While his rushing output was modest, Murray remains a dual-threat force, ranking seventh in rushing yards and red zone carries per game. Despite his recent struggles as a passer, the Seahawks' defense, which has shown vulnerability in recent weeks, presents an opportunity for Murray to exploit. Since Week 12, Seattle has allowed significant passing yards, high yards per attempt, and a notable passer rating. With Murray's ability to capitalize on defensive weaknesses and a track record of at least 20 fantasy points in four of seven starts, deploying him in Week 18 could prove rewarding for fantasy managers. Murray is a QB1 for this matchup.
