Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon (quad) returned to practice on Sunday following a multi-week absence, according to a video from Aaron Wilson of KPRC2. Acquired from the Cincinnati Bengals during the offseason, Mixon now appears to be 100 percent and on track to lead the Houston backfield when the NFL season kicks off in a few weeks. Dameon Pierce may push to earn some touches in 2024, but Mixon, who tallied 1,410 scrimmage yards and 12 touchdowns last year, is their lead back and should be valued accordingly. He's a fringe top-12 running back in redraft fantasy football leagues.

Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon (quadriceps) won't play in Thursday's Hall of Fame game against the Chicago Bears in Canton, OH. That said, Mixon has been making steady progress in his recovery from a minor quad injury that knocked him out of practices early in training camp. After being ruled out of the opening preseason contest, Mixon should be on track soon to resume activities in his first season with the Texans. Mixon will assume the lion's share of the workload at running back for Houston with an average of 253 rushing attempts in his last three seasons as a Cincinnati Bengal. The 28-year-old Mixon is settling in as an upside RB2 thanks to his volume projection, and with the leap the Texans' offense should get in 2024, there will be plenty of touchdowns and available work for Mixon to capitalize on this season as an every-down workhorse back.

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (quadriceps) is making progress in his recovery from a quadriceps injury and is expected to return to practice at some point during the preseason.

Fantasy Spin: Mixon has several weeks to recover before the start of the regular season and probably will be eased back into practice. He is in line for a significant role in the offense this season and will be a weekly starting option in fantasy leagues.

Houston Texans Pro Bowl running back Joe Mixon (hamstring) didn't practice on Monday. Mixon won't play in the Hall of Fame game on Thursday against the Chicago Bears in Canton, with backup Dameon Pierce and rookie Jawhar Jordan being expected to play extensively. It's too early on the calendar to have any real concern about Mixon's hamstring injury, but soft-tissue issues always have a change to linger, and fantasy managers as well as the Texans are hoping to see him back on the field soon. While the 28-year-old is not as explosive as he once was, he's looking at a massive workload in Houston's upstart offense after taking 257 carries and catching 57 passes in 17 games with the Cincinnati Bengals as their workhorse in 2023. Mixon is a solid RB2 bet in the middle rounds of drafts this summer as a likely three-down player during his first year with his new team.

Jul 29 1:30pm ET

Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon (hamstring) still remains absent at Monday's training camp practice. Mixon has missed more than a week now with his hamstring injury, which has allowed backup Dameon Pierce extra repetitions after a disappointing sophomore campaign in Houston. There are no indications that Mixon's injury will put him in danger of missing the start of the 2024 regular season, but the longer he remains out, the more time Pierce will have to impress the coaching staff. When healthy, Mixon should be Houston's primary RB in an up-and-coming offense. Fantasy managers will want to target him ideally as a high-end RB2, but Mixon is probably going to need to be much more efficient as a runner to be worth his draft price, as he's most likely not going to be as involved as a pass-catcher with the Texans as he was with the Bengals.

Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon (undisclosed) has been held out of training camp practice the last few days, but head coach DeMeco Ryans said Mixon "will be fine." "I'm not worried out Joe." It's not a long-term injury for the 27-year-old, so he should be 100 percent in plenty of time for the start of the 2024 regular season this fall. Mixon's absence will give Dameon Pierce and Dare Ogunbowale, among others, more reps early in training camp in Houston's backfield. When healthy, the former Bengals RB will be the Texans' clear lead back in 2024. "Workhorse. He's an absolute workhorse, in every regard," offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik recently said of Mixon. He's joining an offense on the rise, but Mixon is probably going to need to be much more efficient as a runner than he was last year in order to finish as a top-12 fantasy back in his first year in Houston.

Jul 22 1:03pm ET

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (undisclosed) has been absent from two training camp practices, but head coach DeMeco Ryans said he is doing fine, according to sources Monday, July 22.

Fantasy Spin: This will be something to monitor but as long as he's healthy, Mixon should have a floor as an RB2.

From TheHuddle

Jul 19 5:23pm ET

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon said he expects to receive a heavy workload this season with the Texans.

Fantasy Spin: Mixon has been a workhorse since entering the NFL and should continue to be involved in both the running and passing game with the Texans. He should be a weekly starting option in all fantasy leagues.

From TheHuddle

Jul 19 3:30pm ET

New Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon said he sees himself having a heavy workload with a role that he's been preparing for in his first year in the Texans' offense. As long as Mixon is able to stay healthy, he will be Houston's clear lead runner after finishing fifth in the NFL in carries with 257 in 17 games in 2023 in his final year with the Cincinnati Bengals. The 27-year-old racked up 1,034 rushing yards on his 257 carries, which ranked in the top 10 in the league at the position, although his 4.0 yards per carry left a lot to be desired. Mixon is probably going to need to be more efficient as a runner in his first year in Houston to finish as an RB1 in fantasy, because fantasy managers probably won't be able to count on him being as involved in the passing game for the Texans as he was in Cincinnati. But in Houston's ascending that is led by impressive second-year quarterback C.J. Stroud, Mixon should at least be a strong RB2 target in fantasy drafts.

From RotoBaller

Jul 19 12:43pm ET

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon is preparing for a heavy workload, he told reporters Friday, July 19.

Fantasy Spin: Mixon should have a strong workload enough to give him the floor of an RB2 in fantasy with some touchdown upside given the strength of the Texans offense.

From TheHuddle

Jun 26 7:23pm ET

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon said he believes offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik will be using all of his skill set this season.

Fantasy Spin: Mixon should receive a majority of the work in the running game and likely will also targets in the passing game during the season. He is still a reliable fantasy option and should be a weekly starting option in 2024.

From TheHuddle

May 26 10:03am ET

Houston Texans RBs Joe Mixon and Dameon Pierce are both expected to receive plenty of offensive snaps in 2024, according to head coach DeMeco Ryans, although Mixon is likely to be the starter and receive the majority of the carries.

Fantasy Spin: Mixon should be viewed as an RB2 or flex option in most fantasy leagues, while Pierce appears to be nothing more than a handcuff option at this point.

Dynasty | The Bengals have signed running back Joe Mixon to a contract extension. Dynasty Analysis: Mixon gets a three-year, $27 million contract with $13 million in guaranteed money. Any questions about him being the answer beyond this season seem to be answered in the process. While Mixon hasn't been a dominant force, he's been able to get what's blocked and be fairly consistent in the process. He joins a Houston team that's certainly doing things the right way and should pair nicely with CJ Stroud moving forward. Mixon should be a solid RB2 with some RB1 games this next season, making him a solid target for a dynasty contender.

From Dynasty League Fantasy

Mar 14 6:10pm ET

New Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon signed a three-year, $27 million contract extension with the team on Thursday that includes $13 million guaranteed, according to a source. The Cincinnati Bengals were set to cut Mixon for salary cap purposes earlier this week but ended up trading him to the Texans instead. Devin Singletary, Houston's primary back last year, signed with the Giants in free agency. The 27-year-old Mixon, a Pro Bowler in 2021, goes from one potent offense to another and will be the Texans' No. 1 back, giving him clear RB1 upside in fantasy. In 17 starts for Cincy in 2023, Mixon had the fourth 1,000-yard season of his career while scoring nine rushing touchdowns on 257 carries. He added 52 receptions (64 targets) for 376 yards and another three TDs.
