2024 RTSports Outlook

Stafford had a nice rebound season for the Rams, finishing 15th overall in fantasy quarterback scoring. He finished just shy of 4,000 passing yards and scored 24 touchdowns. Stafford had six games with 20-plus fantasy points, including five of his last six to end the season. He finished the year on a really high note. Stafford sometimes struggled with accuracy, having the third worst bad throw percentage in football. He missed on some throws he should have made. He also was plagued by drops, seeing his receivers drop 6.7 percent of his passes, which was the second-highest total in football. So it wasn't all his fault last season. Stafford remains the starter for the Rams in a very high-powered offense. Stafford is 36 years old and has a bit of an injury history, so there are some question marks for him. Stafford has been a top-10 fantasy quarterback for four of his last nine seasons. Stafford has nine 4,000-yard seasons and four of those seasons with 30-plus scores. Stafford has a huge arm, moves around the pocket well, and is a big, strong quarterback. He will force some passes, though, having 36 interceptions in his three seasons with the Rams.

FANTASY OUTLOOK:   Stafford can be an elite fantasy quarterback in this Rams offense. Don't draft him as a top-10 fantasy quarterback, though. He has been more inconsistent in recent seasons. He is a good quarterback to take as a platoon player. Look for around 4,000-passing yards, 30 scores and 12 interceptions.

RotoBaller's Outlook

There was some worry surrounding whether or not Los Angeles Rams quarterbackMatthew Stafford might play in 2023 -; or ever again -; after suffering a spinal cord contusion in November of 2022 against the New Orleans Saints. Regardless of the concern, Stafford returned to the field last season, leading the Los Angeles Rams to a 10-7 record -; missing just one game due to injury (sprained thumb). On the season, Stafford threw for just under 4,000 yards (3,965) and scored 24 touchdowns -; a fine, if not average-ish stat line. Diving deeper, though, we find that Stafford played marginally better in the back half of the season -; particularly from Week 12 on. During that stretch, he seemed to shake off the rust as he threw 15 TDs in six weeks until Sean McVay rested his starters for the final regular season game -; he also accrued 43% of his yards in that time. Stafford is QB18 in NFFC's latest ADP (#105 overall) and QB19 in RotoBaller's latest quarterback rankings. He will have his core group of wide receivers back in Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua, plus having break-out running back Kyren Williams in the fold, which gives the Rams a balanced offensive attack. Stafford carries some nice upside as a late-round starter and would be a superb QB2 in superflex drafts. Don't forget -; Stafford is just three years removed from a Top-5 QB finish, making a solid pick at his current ADP.

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford (hamstring) was a full participant in Thursday's joint practice with the Houston Texans, according to head coach Sean McVay. Stafford returned to team drills at training camp earlier this week after he was limited to individual drills on Monday. Even though the 36-year-old signal-caller's hamstring issue isn't very serious, he's not expected to suit up for the preseason finale this Saturday against Houston. Stafford finished as the QB15 last year in what was a bounce-back campaign after he played in only nine games in 2022 due to injuries. He had 3,965 passing yards, 24 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 15 regular-season contests. Even with wideouts Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua, the aging Stafford's fantasy ceiling and floor have come down considerably. At best, if he stays healthy, he's probably no better than a midrange QB2 at this point in his career.

Aug 20 6:30pm ET

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford (hamstring) was back in team drills on Tuesday. Stafford left a joint practice with the Dallas Cowboys with hamstring tightness last week. The Rams have remained cautious with the injury. All reports have suggested that the coaching staff was unconcerned about the injury. Stafford returned to individual drills on Monday. Tuesday's ramp-up to team drills suggests that the injury may be progressing well. Stafford threw for 3,965 yards and 24 touchdowns in 15 games in 2023. Stafford is highly important to the fantasy success of Puka Nacua, Cooper Kupp, and Kyren Williams as well as the Rams' success as a whole. For now, Stafford's injury should be monitored by fantasy managers to ensure that he returns to play fully healthy before Week 1.

Aug 20 2:13pm ET

Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford (hamstring) took part in team drills on Tuesday, Aug. 20, for the first time since suffering his hamstring injury.

Fantasy Spin: All indications at this point are that Stafford should be good to go for the team's Sunday night opener against the Detroit Lions in just over two weeks. Fantasy managers should expect him to be a strong QB2 option when healthy.

From TheHuddle

Aug 19 4:53pm ET

Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford (hamstring) was limited to individual drills during practice Monday, Aug. 19.

Fantasy Spin: Stafford likely will be eased back into practice so the team can make sure he is ready for Week 1. He has one of the better receiver duos to work with in the NFL but may only be a No. 2 quarterback in most leagues.

From TheHuddle

Aug 19 2:10pm ET

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford (hamstring) is dressed and going through individual drills for the start of the team's training camp practice on Monday. Stafford had to leave a join practice early against the Dallas Cowboys last week due to hamstring tightness and didn't practice the rest of the week or play in Saturday's preseason contest against the Los Angeles Chargers. Head coach Sean McVay had already said he wasn't worried about Stafford missing the Week 1 regular-season opener against the Detroit Lions, and his return to practice this week all but confirms that. In addition to Stafford, offensive guard Jonah Jackson (shoulder) returned to practice on Monday after dealing with a bruised scapula. The 36-year-old Stafford isn't going to play in the preseason finale this weekend against the Houston Texans on Aug. 24, but he should be fine for Week 1 against Detroit, where he'll be a midrange QB2 for fantasy.

From RotoBaller

Aug 18 6:30pm ET

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford (hamstring) is uncertain to suit up for Monday's practice session, according to head coach Sean McVay. Stafford has been sidelined since leaving early during Wednesday's practice due to hamstring tightness. The Rams are downplaying the severity of the issue but will likely re-evaluate his status on Monday. The 36-year-old is fully expected to be ready to play in the season opener. In the meantime, Stetson Bennett and Dresser Winn will continue getting increased reps under center.

Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford (hamstring) may miss some practices this coming week due to hamstring tightness but will be ready for Week 1, head coach Sean McVay said on Sunday, Aug. 18.

From TheHuddle

Aug 15 6:13pm ET

Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford (hamstring) is expected to participate in practice next week, according to head coach Sean McVay.

Fantasy Spin: Stafford probably will be eased back into practice so the team can make sure he is ready for Week 1. He probably will be a No. 2 quarterback in the majority of fantasy leagues this season.

From TheHuddle

Aug 15 4:50pm ET

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford (hamstring) wasn't present during Thursday's walkthrough. This isn't shocking news after Stafford exited early during Wednesday's practice due to hamstring tightness. Head coach Sean McVay said Stafford was removed for precautionary reasons. He added that Stafford should return to practice at some point next week. This sounds like a minor injury for the 36-year-old signal-caller. That is a relief for fantasy managers as draft season quickly approaches.

From RotoBaller

Aug 14 6:30pm ET

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford (hamstring) did not complete Wednesday's joint workout with the Cowboys due to hamstring tightness. Stafford played the first half of practice, including several 11-on-11 series, but left early as a precaution after feeling tightness in his hamstring. During the remainder of practice, backup quarterbacks Jimmy Garoppolo and Stetson Bennett took over, with Garoppolo leading the first team and Bennett the second. While this issue does not appear to be severe, it raises some uncertainty about the Rams' prospects with Stafford at the helm. Last season, Stafford completed 62.6% of his passes for 3,965 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. Hopefully, it will be a minor inconvenience rather than a long-term concern. Stafford will lead an offense with two early wide receiver picks, Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp, and an early running back pick in Kyren Williams. If Stafford is hurt for any time, all of the Rams' playmakers would take a big hit.

From RotoBaller

Aug 14 5:13pm ET

Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford (hamstring) left practice early Wednesday, Aug. 14, because of hamstring tightness.

Fantasy Spin: Stafford does not appear to be dealing with a serious injury, but fantasy players can monitor the situation to see how long he sits out. He has a good group of pass catchers to work with but probably is only a No. 2 fantasy quarterback in fantasy leagues.

From TheHuddle

Jul 31 7:30pm ET

Los Angeles Rams starting guard Jonah Jackson (shoulder) is expected to miss the preseason due to a bruised scapula. However, he may return in time for the regular season opener against his former team, the Detroit Lions. Today, Jackson was seen on the sidelines with his left arm in a sling, highlighting the severity of the injury. The Rams have labeled Jackson as day-to-day with a shoulder issue. Signed to a three-year, $51 million contract, Jackson is now the sixth-highest-paid guard in the NFL, acquired from the Lions. The Rams were already without left tackle Alaric Jackson (ankle), who tweaked his ankle earlier in the week, so any significant injury to Jonah Jackson would be a major setback as training camp progresses. These injuries could adversely affect the fantasy value of the Rams' offensive players, particularly Matthew Stafford and Kyren Williams.

Jul 29 12:30pm ET

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has agreed to revised terms on his contract, including an additional $5 million this year. The funds were shifted from a future contract and a $4 million guaranteed roster bonus for the following year. This change follows Stafford's push for more guaranteed money and ensures his participation in the Rams' training camp. The Rams did not extend Stafford's original four-year, $160 million deal signed in 2022, which remains in effect through the 2026 season. Stafford still has three years left on his contract but only $31 million in guaranteed salary for this year, with none guaranteed in the final two seasons. After a challenging start last season and a thumb injury that caused him to miss one game, Stafford ended strong, throwing for 16 touchdowns and only four interceptions in his last seven regular-season starts, strengthening his case for additional guaranteed funds. Stafford has all his weapons coming back in 2024 and is a strong QB2 in superflex leagues.

From RotoBaller

Jul 28 5:43pm ET

Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford agreed to an adjusted contract on Sunday, July 28, per sources. The restructured deal gives Stafford an additional $5 million in 2024, and an additional $4 million guaranteed roster bonus in 2025.

From TheHuddle

Jul 25 9:40am ET

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has been in the offseason retirement rumors over the last two seasons, but he is back for a 16th NFL campaign (fourth with the Rams), and team reporter Stu Jackson said he is looking sharp at the start of training camp. "Matthew Stafford picked up where he left off with Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua, but best connections were on TD passes to TEs Colby Parkinson and Davis Allen," Jackson wrote on X. The 36-year-old gun-slinger is unlikely to be a trustworthy fantasy option in single-QB leagues, but he's a fine backup or QB2 in Superflex or two-QB formats. Stafford has thrown for at least 4,000 yards in nine of the 10 seasons that he has played in at least 16 contests. With a healthy Kupp and more experienced Nacua, don't be surprised if Los Angeles' continues to have a high-powered passing attack.

From RotoBaller

Jul 23 7:40pm ET

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford took the field on Tuesday at the team's training camp. Stafford was noticeably absent from Monday's practice due to a contract dispute involving a guaranteed money structure. It would appear that it only took one day for the Rams and Stafford to come to an agreement. Stafford finished 2023 with 3,965 passing yards and 24 touchdowns in 15 games. Stafford helped propel Puka Nacua to his stellar WR4 finish. While Stafford only finished as the QB15, he got hot down the stretch with excellent games between Weeks 13 and 16. Stafford's days as a potential weekly fantasy starter are likely gone, but he could have some streaming value and is an excellent second quarterback in superflex leagues.

From RotoBaller

Jul 23 4:03pm ET

Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford has reportedly 'worked something out' with the team and will report to training camp as expected on Tuesday, July 23. Stafford was seeking a bit of a pay raise in light of the explosion in salaries at the quarterback position in recent months.

Fantasy Spin: There is no word yet on the details, but it seems reasonable that Stafford will join the $50 million/season club at quarterback. Few quarterbacks closed the season out better than Stafford, who averaged 284 yards passing and threw for 15 touchdowns versus only three interceptions over his final six games. The 35-year-old has never been much of a threat with his legs, but he could still push for low-end QB1 numbers in what should easily be a top-10 offense in 2024.

From TheHuddle

Jul 23 9:30am ET

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford was not among the many players who reported to training camp on Monday night, according to Cameron DaSilva of The Rams Wire. While we don't have an official word on Stafford's absence, it's likely related to his ongoing contract impasse with the Rams. Stafford, who still has three years left on his existing deal, reportedly wants to restructure his contract so that he gets more guaranteed money and possibly a pay raise, too. Oftentimes, these impasses get resolved during the summer months (or the player gives in and tables discussions until the following offseason). However, that's not always the case, and Stafford's veteran status could prompt him to take a firmer stance on the whole ordeal. His presence (or lack thereof) will be a storyline that fantasy managers should continue to monitor as the 2024 season inches closer. For now, Stafford has an ADP of 121 in redraft leagues, making him the 19th quarterback off the board in drafts. He was the overall QB15 last year after tossing for 3,965 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.

From RotoBaller

Jul 6 1:20pm ET

A contract situation to watch for the Los Angeles Rams as training camp begins in late July aside from quarterback Matthew Stafford's will be Jones'. He is entering the final year of his rookie deal and has solidified himself as a multi-year starter and leader on a defense that is now without Aaron Donald. General manager Les Snead said in March that the Rams would have Jones play on his final year instead of extending him early. However, with the Rams, that could always change. There is little depth behind Jones, who missed the football part of organized team activities with what head coach Sean McVay said was leg soreness. Jones was physically present for the rest of the offseason work. The 24-year-old finished as the No. 17 linebacker in IDP fantasy formats in 2023 with 75 solo tackles, 4.5 sacks, 14 tackles for loss, six QB hits and six pass breakups in 15 regular-season starts in his third year in the league.

From RotoBaller

Jun 19 1:00pm ET

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford wants more guaranteed money in his deal and wouldn't mind a raise, either, as he looks to tweak his contract. Stafford will make $31 million, $32 million and $31 million in the final three years of his current deal, but nothing is guaranteed after the 2024 season. He received his deal several years ago, and the QB market just took a major leap with Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence's big extension. Stafford was a participant during mandatory minicamp, though, so no holdout is expected at training camp next month. The 36-year-old signal-caller bounced back from an injury-plagued year in 2022 to post 3,965 passing yards, 24 TDs and 11 interceptions in 15 regular-season starts last year in his third year in LA. Still, he was only the QB15 in fantasy last year and is an injury risk as he moves toward the end of his career.
