Buffalo Bills Pro Bowl running back James Cook (toe) will practice on Saturday despite his toe injury and plans to play on Monday night against the division-rival New York Jets in Week 6, according to his agency LAA. Head coach Sean McDermott said that Cook will be listed as questionable on the final injury report. As long as the 25-year-old doesn't suffer a setback at practice on Saturday, it's looking like fantasy managers will be able to keep him in their starting lineups. Cook didn't practice on Thursday and Friday and was looking more likely to miss the Week 6 contest before this news. It's good news that he's expected to play, but fantasy managers should expect more bust potential from Cook this week, as both Ty Johnson and rookie Ray Davis could spell him more often, and the matchup against a tough Jets defense doesn't help matters.

Oct 11 2:20pm ET

Buffalo Bills running back James Cook (foot, toe) was unable to suit up for Friday's practice session. Cook hasn't been able to practice all week, which puts him on the wrong side of questionable ahead of the Week 6 matchup against the New York Jets. It's worth noting that the Bills do play on Monday, so Cook will get another chance to practice on Saturday. If he sits, Ty Johnson and Ray Davis would likely split up the workload in the backfield. Neither of them have done much of anything on the field this season. Davis has rushed 26 times for 75 yards, which is 2.9 yards per carry. Fantasy managers should consider Davis a shaky RB3 if Cook sits out.

Oct 10 2:10pm ET

Buffalo Bills running back James Cook (foot/toe) is not practicing on Tuesday after missing Monday's practice with foot and toe injuries. The third-year ball carrier out of Georgia appears to be in real danger of missing the Week 6 game against the New York Jets, but the game is on Monday, so fantasy managers will need to stay tuned throughout the week. Cook has three weekly RB1 finishes in PPR leagues, so his absence could be a major problem for his managers. If he can't play, veteran Ty Johnson and rookie Ray Davis will likely share the backfield against a New York Jets defense that has surrendered the eighth-fewest fantasy points per game to running backs in 2024.

Oct 9 1:50pm ET

Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott said that running back James Cook (foot, toe) will not take part in practice on Wednesday after getting injured in the Week 5 loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday. The good news for Cook's fantasy managers is that while he is certainly banged up, he's considered day-to-day. Still, the 25-year-old's status is now up in the air for Week 6's Monday night showdown with the division-rival New York Jets, and if Cooks ends up being questionable to play in that contest, it will make for some tough fantasy decisions this week. Those in need of a RB or that have Cook rostered may want to consider picking up rookie Ray Davis if he's available on the waiver wire. In addition to Davis, Ty Johnson would see a larger role in Buffalo's backfield if Cook's injuries keep him out in Week 6. Check back for status updates on Cook throughout the week.

Oct 6 7:40pm ET

Buffalo Bills running back James Cook rushed the football 20 times for 82 yards and a touchdown in the team's last-second loss to the Houston Texans. The Bills leaned on Cook as the passing offense struggled. Josh Allen completed just nine of his 30 passes. Cook's five-yard touchdown plunge midway through the third quarter was the Bills' first touchdown of the game. Cook added two receptions for 17 yards, finishing just one yard short of 100 total yards. The 25-year-old has established himself as one of Buffalo's most important players on the offensive side of the ball and will be an RB1 when the Bills face the Jets in Week 6.

Oct 4 10:20am ET

Buffalo Bills running back James Cook suffered through the worst fantasy performance of his season in Week 4 but should bounce back against the Houston Texans. Cook was removed from the game due to a negative game script against the Ravens. He logged just 10 touches for under 50 yards. The game script on Sunday versus Houston should fare better for Cook's fantasy production. However, the Texans' defense is stronger against the run than the pass, and they've allowed the fewest passing yards to opposing running backs. The Bills shouldn't have many issues moving the football on offense, setting up more high-value opportunities for the lead running back. Start Cook across the board.

Sep 30 8:30am ET

Buffalo Bills running back James Cook carried the football nine times for 39 yards and caught one pass for nine yards in the team's blowout loss to the Baltimore Ravens. It was the lowest touch total for Cook so far this season. Cook ran efficiently early in the game against a stout Baltimore run defense but didn't see many touches in the second half. The Bills found themselves down 18 points at halftime and turned to an aerial attack to attempt to come back. Buffalo's lone touchdown was scored by backup running back Ty Johnson from three yards out following a long completion by Khalil Shakir. Cook should see a rebound in Week 5 when the Bills travel to Houston.

Sep 26 9:50pm ET

Buffalo Bills running back James Cook, the current RB6 in fantasy football, draws his toughest test yet of the 2024 season. The Baltimore Ravens allow a league-low 50 rushing yards per game, 21 yards fewer than the next team on the list. The Raiders and Cowboys' subpar rushing attacks brought the average down, but the Ravens limited Isiah Pacheco to three yards per carry in Week 1. While the Ravens are stout against the run, they allow the eighth-most receptions to running backs, an area where Cook can thrive. As hot as the Buffalo offense is, it's impossible to shy away from Josh Allen, Cook, and the other big names on the Bills. Start Cook as a low-end RB1 in Week 4.

Sep 24 12:10am ET

Buffalo Bills running back James Cook rushed the football 11 times for 39 yards and a touchdown while adding four catches for 48 yards in the team's 47-10 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Bills opened the game throwing more often than running, although Cook finished the first drive with his touchdown. Due to another blowout win, Cook only touched the ball once in the fourth quarter. Cook's 87 total yards were his fewest of the young season, but he still managed to end the week as an RB1 in PPR formats. With his work on the ground and through the air, the soon-to-be 25-year-old will remain an RB1 against a tough Baltimore defense in Week 4.

Sep 20 10:00pm ET

It's doubtful that Buffalo Bills running back James Cook scores three touchdowns and wins AFC Offensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week but he still is ranked as an RB1 heading into the team's matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars are allowing over 100 rushing yards per game. They're also struggling on offense. With a lead, the Bills could lean more on Cook. Regardless of the game script, he will continue to be the focal point of the Buffalo offense, registering over 70 yards on the ground in both contests while adding extra yardage in the passing game. Expect at least 15 touches from Cook on Monday Night Football and start him confidently as an RB1.

Sep 14 8:15pm ET

Bills' RB James Cook scored 28.50 fantasy points in Thursday's Week 2 win in Miami. Cook ran for 78 yards and caught one pass for 17 yards with three touchdowns. It's the 1st time this season Cook scored at least 25 fantasy points in a game.

Sep 13 9:00am ET

Buffalo Bills running back James Cook caught one touchdown and ran for two more in the team's dominant victory over Miami on Thursday Night Football. He totaled 95 yards and is now an early favorite to be the RB1 in Week 2. Cook started the scoring with a 17-yard reception on fourth down on the Bills' first drive. A few drives later, Cook punched it in from the one-yard line, a rare site in his young career. Finally, he sprinted away from defenders on a 49-yard touchdown run up the middle. Cook has now matched his rushing touchdown total from last season. His night could have been bigger but the Bills remained up three touchdowns throughout the entire fourth quarter and let rookie Ray Davis burn the clock. Cook will be in the RB1 range when the Bills take the field against Jacksonville a week from Monday.

Dynasty | Bills running back James Cook had 78 rushing yards, one catch, 17 receiving yards and three touchdowns in a TNF blowout win against the Dolphins. Dynasty Analysis: On a night where the defense was solid, Cook simply dominated the game from start to finish. After a quiet game last week, Cook clearly stated his case to be in the RB1 discussion with tonight's performance. We'll need to see more consistency from him moving forward, but it's clear his dynasty arrow is pointing straight up at the moment.

From Dynasty League Fantasy

Sep 11 2:50pm ET

Buffalo Bills running back James Cook may not get the red zone opportunities that fantasy managers love, but he'll get plenty of touches elsewhere on the field. Although on the field for just over 60% of Buffalo's snaps in Week 1, James Cook dominated backfield touches. He carried the ball 19 times and caught three passes. Rookie Ray Davis got four touches while veteran Ty Johnson (knee) received two. The latter has been limited in practice. With offensive coordinator Joe Brady's reliance on the running game since he took the helm, Cook is in line for another 15-20 touch game. Consider Cook a low-end RB1 against the Miami Dolphins on Thursday Night Football.

From RotoBaller

Sep 8 8:20pm ET

Buffalo Bills running back James Cook rushed for 71 yards on 19 attempts while adding 32 yards on three catches in the team's Week 1 win over the Arizona Cardinals. Cook dominated the running back touches (22), compared to four for rookie Ray Davis and two for Ty Johnson. Unfortunately, as was the story often in 2023, Josh Allen accounted for the team's two rushing touchdowns from within the 10-yard line. That left Cook with good yardage but no scores. Expect another game of 15-20 touches when the Bills take on the Miami Dolphins on Thursday Night Football. A lack of goal-line opportunities will continue to cap his upside.

Sep 6 10:50am ET

Buffalo Bills running back James Cook is again opening the season as the lead back in Buffalo. Despite concerns over touches near the endzone, Cook should be started in all fantasy football leagues. A low touchdown total (six) was the only blemish from Cook's RB12 finish from a season ago. He totaled 1,567 yards and caught 44 passes, despite only playing more than 70% of the team's snaps once. Cook could be even more involved in the passing game in 2024, with two of Buffalo's top target earners (Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis) on other rosters. The Cardinals ranked dead last in rushing yards allowed to running backs in 2023 (2,027) and surrendered eight receiving touchdowns to the position, the most in the NFL. Even if Cook is vultured by Josh Allen or rookie Ray Davis in the red zone, it should still be a productive day for fantasy football.

Aug 17 10:40pm ET

Buffalo Bills running back James Cook got involved in Saturday night's preseason victory over the hosting Pittsburgh Steelers at Acrisure Stadium, rushing six times for 25 yards in the win. Cook tacked on a six-yard catch on Saturday against Pittsburgh, running for a long gain of eight yards. The star third-year back trailed only superstars Christian McCaffrey and Breece Hall among RBs with 1,567 yards from scrimmage in 17 games as Buffalo's lead back last season, but even though incumbent veteran Latavius Murray is no longer around to vulture touchdowns from him, Cook now has rookie fourth-rounder Ray Davis to worry about in the backfield this fall. Davis is a threat to siphon the occasional carry on early downs and also has pass-catching ability, but Cook will start the season as a surefire RB2 option in what became a run-heavy Bills offense during the second half of last year.

From RotoBaller

Aug 10 1:20pm ET

A slight trend that has taken shape for Buffalo Bills starting running back James Cook in training camp this summer has been some ball-security issues near the end of his plays. On a handful of occasions, Cook has allowed the football to hit the ground, and it happened twice at practice on Wednesday. However, The Athletic's Joe Buscaglia wouldn't expect it to impact Cook's time on the field at this point. However, that could change if his ball-security issues carry into the regular season. For now, Cook is still the team's unquestioned RB1 by a good margin, and it will remain that way until further notice. The 24-year-old had four fumbles in 2023. Power running isn't Cook's forte, but he's a strong pass-catcher and should be more valuable as a high-end RB2 in point-per-reception leagues going into his third year in the NFL.

Jul 29 9:40am ET

Buffalo Bills running back James Cook missed practice on Sunday due to a personal matter and has returned on Monday morning. His absence was excused on Sunday, so the likely starting running back is back on the field. Cook posted 1122 yards on 237 attempts and two touchdowns on the ground and 445 yards on 44 receptions with four scores. He had plenty of goal-line chances stolen by Josh Allen quarterback keepers, so Cook does have the potential to find the endzone a bit more this season. As of right now, Rotoballer has him ranked as the 15th-best RB in PPR formats. He'll see most of the groundwork with Ty Johnson as his main backup.

From RotoBaller

Jul 28 2:00pm ET

Buffalo Bills running back James Cook (personal) was excused from Sunday's training camp practice for personal reasons. It's unknown how long Cook might be away from the team, but it's nothing that is going to affect his fantasy value heading into the 2024 season. The 24-year-old former second-round selection (63rd overall) in the 2022 NFL draft out of Georgia took on a much larger role in his sophomore season in 2023 and earned his first Pro Bowl nod, carrying the ball 237 times for 1,122 yards and just two touchdowns. He added 44 receptions on 54 targets for 445 additional yards and four touchdowns through the air. Cook heads into his third year in the league as Buffalo's unquestioned lead back. He does not thrive between the tackles and will probably never have a high TD ceiling with quarterback Josh Allen vulturing goal-line carries. Cook is more attractive in PPR formats and is listed as RotoBaller's No. 15 fantasy RB.
