2024 RTSports Outlook

Mitchell was an undrafted free agent but starting to make big waves in the Ravens offense, emerging as a starter about halfway through the season. Unfortunately, just as things started taking off for him, he suffered a torn ACL in Week 15. He finished his rookie season with 489 total yards and two touchdowns in eight games. He averaged an amazing 8.4 yards per carry, making tons of big plays with his chances. His torn ACL clouds this coming season, especially after suffering later in the year. He might not be ready for the start of the season. But once he is up to speed, he should have a role in the Ravens run-heavy offense. Mitchell lacks a little size, but has great speed and moves in space. He makes plays with the ball in his hands. His lack of size is a bit of a concern for his durability going forward, though. Plus, he has suffered two major injuries the last few seasons (ACL and Achilles').

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Mitchell is worth a late-round pick. He has some potential to produce some big games in this offense once he is up to health. Just be prepared for him to play little early in the season. He can get around 500 total yards and a few scores.

RotoBaller's Outlook

Mitchell burst onto the fantasy scene in 2023 as an undrafted free agent from East Carolina, putting up 138 yards on only nine totes in his first game on offense. The speedster was a great compliment to "Gus the Bus" Edwards, who is relied on to grind out those tough yards in-between the tackles. Unfortunately Mitchell went down with a full ACL tear in late December and will not be ready by Week 1 according to head coach John Harbaugh. While no official timetable has been given for a return, there should be opportunities when that does happen. Baltimore is entering a new era in the backfield with the aforementioned Edwards and JK Dobbins both signing with the Chargers this offseason. The Ravens did elect to bring in future hall-of-famer Derrick Henry who will lead the charge, but after him it will be a competition between Justice Hill and Mitchell for those change-of-pace, 3rd-down back touches. It's worth noting that the Ravens did select Marshall prospect Rasheen Ali in the fifth round, but based on Mitchell's elite efficiency last year - NFL leading 8.4 YPC (min 45 carries) - it would be an atrocity if he was relegated to RB4 duties. The uphill climb to fantasy relevance is a bit steep, but does still exist for Mitchell, especially if Henry or Hill were to miss time.

Baltimore Ravens running back Keaton Mitchell (knee) is "on schedule" with his recovery from a torn ACL suffered in Week 15 of last season. However, the speedster won't take part in training camp this summer, and he's likely to miss at least a few games early in the 2024 campaign. This is no surprise given the usual timeline to return from a major knee injury. After going undrafted last year out of East Carolina, Mitchell rushed 47 times for 396 yards and two touchdowns. His sample size was small, but his 8.4 yards per carry led all running backs, and he flashed his splash-play upside. The 22-year-old should be stashed in dynasty formats, but he has a slim chance of being a significant fantasy contributor this year behind Derrick Henry. Justice Hill is slated to begin the season in the RB2 role, though fifth-round rookie Rasheen Ali could make a run at it.

Dynasty | Pending free agent running back Gus Edwards is expected to leave Baltimore via free agency. Dynasty Analysis: The Ravens were seemingly set last year with JK Dobbins, Keaton Mitchell and Gus Edwards holding down the fort. Unfortunately, both Dobbins and Mitchell suffered injuries and Edwards again came to the rescue. However, it seems Baltimore is ready to move on and they've been linked to big-name running backs like Derrick Henry and Saquon Barkley. While nothing is imminent, the tea leaves are pointing towards Baltimore looking to make a splash. Edwards' dynasty value will be entirely dependent on where he may end up in free agency but it's highly unlikely he'll be used as a starter at his age.

Some NFL personnel people inside the league think that the Baltimore Ravens will target a running back with pedigree in free agency this offseason. The Ravens have a few tough salary cap decisions to make but should be able to keep most of its veteran base intact. A major decision looms on defensive tackle Justin Madubuike, who will be one of the most coveted free agents after his 13-sack season in 2023. Baltimore usually lets free agents test the market, but Madubuike would be gone very quickly unless he's given the franchise tag or extended on a long-term deal. In the backfield, both J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards, who have had their share of injuries, will both be eligible for free agency. Keaton Mitchell has a very high ceiling, but he'll also be coming off a torn ACL and a ruptured Achilles in the last three years.

Baltimore Ravens running back Keaton Mitchell (knee) was officially placed on the injured reserve list on Tuesday. It was an expected move from the Ravens after Mitchell tore his ACL in Sunday's 23-7 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. The 21-year-old has really come on in recent weeks, but now faces a long road to recovery this offseason. He finished his rookie year with 396 rush yards and two touchdowns. In a corresponding move, Baltimore added Melvin Gordon III to the active roster. Gordon should fill in as the team's RB3 moving forward.

Dynasty | Ravens rookie running back Keaton Mitchell tore his ACL in the Ravens win over Jacksonville. Dynasty Analysis: Updating a previous item, Mitchell is indeed done for the year. It's a brutal blow to a player who was really coming into his own this year. He'll end the season with 396 yards and two touchdowns on a whopping 8.4 yards per carry. The Ravens are no stranger to running back injuries and this one is just the latest in a long list. As for Mitchell, his ascension up the rookie and dynasty rankings will end here and it's tough to say what his role will be next season as he'll likely be out until at least the middle of the year. On the bright side, torn ACLs seem to be a rite of passage for most running backs so he should be able to return to form eventually.
