Mahomes Don't Play Dat

2024 RTSports Outlook

Kelce saw a bit of a regression last year, finishing third overall in fantasy tight end scoring. He still had a very good season, but disappeared a few more weeks than usual for his standards. Kelce had four games with fewer than double-digit fantasy points, including three straight to end his regular seasons. He also failed to reach 1,000 yards for the first time since 2015. He did have 93 receptions, though, having 90-plus catches six straight seasons. Kelce is 34 years old and showed a few signs of slowing down last year. His ADOT (averaged depth of target when targeted) was a career low at 6.7. He remains an elite tight end and the favorite target of Patrick Mahomes, though. Kelce is a big target with speed, athleticism and plus hands. He also is a good blocker. He really is a complete package at tight end. Kelce remains one of the best all-around tight ends in the game.

FANTASY OUTLOOK:   You do have to worry some about Kelce slowing down a little more at his age. Plus, he has played a ton of football throughout his career, which is another concern. It would not surprise to see his numbers dip a little more this season but he remains a top-three tight end in this offense. He is going to get his weekly work and produce some big games along the way. He can get around 90 receptions for 950 yards and eight touchdowns.

RotoBaller's Outlook

Travis Kelce has not finished outside the top three at the tight end position since 2015, and over that span, he finished as the TE1 in six of the last eight seasons. In 2021, he finished as TE2 behind Mark Andrews, and last year, he finished as TE3, behind Sam LaPorta and Evan Engram. However, his TE3 finish is entirely due to the two games he missed, one at the beginning of the season after he suffered a high ankle sprain in the preseason, and one in Week 18. His 219.4 PPR points trailed LaPorta by only 19.9 points, and Kelce still led the league in fantasy PPG with 14.6, meaning he would have finished as the TE1 yet again if he played in both of those games. The emergence of LaPorta coupled with Kelce turning 35 this year has managers sleeping on the most reliable player of the last decade, and arguably in the history of fantasy football. The Kansas City Chiefs are looking to three-peat as Super Bowl champions and Kelce is a key piece of that objective, and he has given us no reason to doubt him or to think that he will not dominate like he always does. Breakout wide receiver Rashee Rice is likely to be suspended for a few games, so Kelce should see 10+ targets a game right out of the gate. The Chiefs also signed speed-freak Marquise Brown in free agency and drafted the fastest player in NFL combine history, Xavier Worthy, so there will be plenty of speed on the outside to help create gaps in the middle of the field for Kelce to pick apart the defense. He is currently being drafted as TE2 in the third round at 33 overall, a full round after LaPorta, and managers would be wise to grab another elite running back or wide receiver in the second round to pair with Kelce, who could absolutely outscore LaPorta if he stays healthy.

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce was active in Saturday night's preseason loss to the hosting Jacksonville Jaguars at EverBank Stadium, hauling in his lone pass for seven yards in the defeat. Kelce's cameo on Saturday against the Jaguars saw him work with the first-team offense during a scoring drive in the first quarter, hooking up with quarterback Patrick Mahomes for a seven-yard pickup. 2023 was a tale of two halves for Kelce, who looked as spry as ever during the first half of the season before his production tapered off down the stretch of the year. The 34-year-old future Hall of Famer kicked things into high gear during the postseason, however, averaging eight catches for 88.8 yards with three total touchdowns over four playoff appearances. He may no longer be the undisputed top TE1 in the game with so much talent at the position around him at this stage of his career, but Kelce is a safe choice in the early rounds of fantasy drafts.

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce stated how "taxing" last season was from a physical standpoint. However, he appears committed to getting himself in better shape heading into the 2024-25 campaign. "I've had more snaps than a lot of guys if not everybody in the NFL over the past five, six years" said Kelce during an interview. "I'm very prideful of that, but I know it has taken a toll on my body. So, it's just making sure that my body's getting that rest and that ability to train harder and be able to withstand an entire 17-to-20-game season." Undeniably, Kelce is the best tight end in the National Football League. But, his production declined in 2023-24, finishing with 93 catches for 984 yards and five touchdowns. Managers still plan on making him the first tight end taken in nearly all fantasy drafts. Yet, if Kelce has another subpar season, that will change in the years ahead.

Jul 13 10:13pm ET

Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce's 10.6 yards per catch in 2023 were a career low, but his 65.6 receiving yards per game and 51 first downs ranked first among tight ends.

Fantasy Spin: Kelce is no longer the unquestioned No. 1 fantasy option at the position, but he is still one of the steadiest tight performers with arguably the safest floor.

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is a three-time Super Bowl Champion and nine-time Pro Bowler, and retirement rumors have picked up steam over the last two offseasons. However, the 34-year-old is not putting a timeline on the end of his career, and he signed a two-year extension this offseason. "I really can't put a timeframe on (retirement)," Kelce said. "I love coming to work every single day. I know there's opportunities for me outside of football. I'm going to keep going until the wheels fall off. Hopefully, that doesn't happen anytime soon." For what it's worth, Kelce sits over 3,000 yards shy of passing Tony Gonzalez for the most receiving yards ever by a tight end, so he could be chasing that mark. Kelce's 984 receiving yards in 2023 were his fewest in a single season since 2015, yet he still finished second among all tight ends. The future Hall-of-Famer and clear top-five tight end of all time could fall off a cliff in production at any moment, but for now, he remains an elite player at the position. All that said, he is no longer the consensus TE1 in fantasy football thanks to emerging pass-catchers like Sam LaPorta and Trey McBride.

Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce told reporters on Tuesday, June 11, that he 'really cannot put a timeframe on (retirement)' intends to 'keep going until the wheels fall off,' according to Nate Taylor of The Athletic.

Fantasy Spin: Kelce also noted that he loves coming to work every single day, so it is possible - albeit unlikely - that the soon-to-be 35-year-old could play past next season. At any rate, Kelce is still playing at a high level and probably locked into 70-plus catches every year as long as Patrick Mahomes stays healthy. Kelce may never repeat his 2022 season, but he is unquestionably an elite TE1 option again this season.

Dynasty | The Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to a two-year contract extension with tight end Travis Kelce. Dynasty Analysis: The contract will keep Kelce in Kansas City through the 2027 season, pays him $17 million guaranteed and all but ensures he'll play his entire career in with the Chiefs. This should put to rest the idea he's going to retire any time soon and it looks like Kelce will remain a solid TE1 option for the foreseeable future. While his play took a small step back last season (he failed to reach 1,000 receiving yards for the first time in eight years), it was clear in the playoffs the Chiefs were just saving him for the postseason. If this is a theme, Kelce may not be the elite option we've come to expect as he ages but he's still a solid TE1 each and every week and a solid target for a contending dynasty team now that we know he has no plans to retire any time soon.

Updating previous reports, Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce's new two-year contract worth $34.25 million will replace his current contract and is not an extension. He will be under contract through the 2025 season.

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce agreed to a two-year extension worth $34.24 million that will be added on to his current deal, according to sources Monday, April 29. He is signed through the 2027 season.

Apr 29 2:40pm ET

The Kansas City Chiefs and All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce agreed to terms on Monday on an undisclosed two-year contract extension to make him the league's highest-paid tight end, according to sources. The deal was completed by his long-time agent, Mike Simon. Still one of the best tight ends in football at age 34, the former third-round pick in 2013 out of Cincinnati has been a Pro Bowler in each of the last nine seasons and finished the 2023 regular season with 93 catches (121 targets) for 984 yards and five touchdowns in 15 starts. The four-time All-Pro selection is still a high-end TE1 for fantasy purposes coming off back-to-back Super Bowl championships, but he's also much more of an injury risk than he's ever been.

Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce agreed to a two-year contract extension making him the highest-paid tight end in the NFL, according to sources Monday, April 29.

Fantasy Spin: Kelce will turn 35 years old halfway through the 2024 season but considering his recent output of 93 receptions for 984 yards and five touchdowns in 2023, there are no signs of him slowing down. Kelce remains arguably the top tight end in fantasy football, and this two-year deal solidifies his stay for at least a while longer.
