2024 RTSports Outlook

Mims made a few big plays his rookie season but didn't get a lot of consistent work as the No. 3 or 4 receiver for the Broncos most weeks. He had 22 receptions for 377 yards and a touchdown. The positive is he averaged an impressive 17.1 yards per reception, showing his big-play potential. He just wasn't on the field a lot. The Broncos have some openings at receiver this season, so Mims could play a bigger role from day one with a strong offseason and training camp. As mentioned, Mims is a big-play threat at receiver. He can make plays after the catch and also run by defenders with his plus speed on deep routes. Mims is a bit of a limited route runner, though, and can struggle some with the contested catch.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Mims is a wild card. He has the potential to take a step forward this year, but will need the consistent work for that to happen. We just aren't sure that happens. Take him as a deep reserve and hope for the best. He could get around 40 receptions for 600 yards and a few scores.

RotoBaller's Outlook

Many in the fantasy community were excited when the Denver Broncos traded up into Round 2 of the 2023 NFL Draft to take WR Marvin Mims Jr. at No. 63 overall, but the rookie WR finished with just 32 targets for 22 receptions to go along with 377 receiving yards and 1 TD, although Mims did average a whopping 17.1 yards per reception. After WR Jerry Jeudy was traded to Cleveland, Mims' only competition for targets will come from veteran WR Courtland Sutton, Josh Reynolds, and rookie WR Troy Franklin. The fantasy markets appear down on the Broncos' offense for 2024 as they will likely feature rookie QB Bo Nix under center, but this season will tell us a lot about just how great of a Head Coach Sean Payton truly is. Expect Mims to start the season as the team's slot WR, but his fate will likely be heavily tied to the success of his rookie quarterback. He can be very easily stacked at the very end of best ball drafts with Nix.

Denver Broncos wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. was the first selection of the Sean Payton era, landing with the organization at the end of the second round in the 2023 NFL Draft. However, he caught just 22 of his 33 targets for 377 yards and one touchdown. He was a Pro Bowler and second-team All-Pro selection as a returner, and Jon Heath of Broncos Wire believes he should be more involved in the offense in 2024. "Mims is poised to make a big impact as a returner again in 2024, but his contributions won't end there," Heath wrote. "Mims averaged 17.1 yards per reception last fall, but he was used sporadically on offense. After trading Jerry Jeudy to the Browns this spring, the Broncos will have more snaps (and targets) available for Mims on offense this fall. The 22-year-old special teams ace could be on the verge of a breakout year as a receiver." Mims will compete with Josh Reynolds, Troy Franklin, and Tim Patrick for snaps, all of whom aren't standout pass-catchers. The Broncos are likely to have one of the worst offenses in the NFL under rookie quarterback Bo Nix, but Mims could still be a solid late-round fantasy option considering his price outside the top 75 wide receivers.

Denver Broncos wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. said he's feeling better heading into his second year in the NFL, and the electric return man will also get more chances to return kicks in 2024 with the new league rules. Mims averaged 26.5 yards per kickoff return last year and had one of the league's four return touchdowns. The second-round pick last year was a Pro Bowl returner in his rookie season, but he had only 22 catches for 377 yards and a touchdown as a receiver, with most of the production coming early in the year. The coaching staff struggled to find snaps for Mims behind Courtland Sutton and Jerry Jeudy. Jeudy is now gone, but Mims will be competing for snaps with Josh Reynolds, Tim Patrick and rookie Troy Franklin. Mims has the potential to make noise as a deep threat once again, but unless an injury opens up consistent snaps for him on offense, he may just be more of a special teams asset for Denver in 2024.

The Denver Broncos are expecting to see growth from wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. as he heads into his second year in the league. "You're going to see a lot of growth from Year 1 to Year 2," head coach Sean Payton said. Mims, the team's second-round pick (63rd overall) in 2023 out of Oklahoma, averaged a healthy 17.1 yards per catch in his first NFL season last year but caught just 22 passes on 33 targets for 377 yards and only one touchdown in 16 games (seven starts). The 22-year-old didn't get all that many opportunities to get into a rhythm in his rookie campaign but showed potential as a deep threat down the field from time to time. His fantasy stock immediately got a boost when the team traded Jerry Jeudy to the Browns in the offseason, but he'll still have to show improvement in Year 2 in order to see playing time alongside Josh Reynolds, Tim Patrick and rookie Troy Franklin.

Denver Broncos rookie wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. (hamstring) missed the first game of his career in last week's win over the Los Angeles Chargers, but he returned to full practice this week and will suit up for the Week 18 regular season finale against the Las Vegas Raiders. With both Mims and Courtland Sutton (concussion) out last week, Lil'Jordan Humphrey caught two passes for 69 yards and a touchdown. Denver has nothing to play for on Sunday, so expect Mims and other young players to get more run against the division-rival Raiders. It doesn't mean the 21-year-old will be a worthwhile low-cost DFS play, though, especially with quarterback Jarrett Stidham making another start. In his first 15 NFL games, Mims has produced just 21 receptions on 32 targets for 361 yards and one touchdown.
