Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Jordan Whittington looked to be settled in as the fifth or sixth option to start the season. Now, Whittington might find himself with an every week role. The Rams are expected to be without both Puka Nacua (knee) and Cooper Kupp (ankle) for multiple games. That being said, Demarcus Robinson, Tyler Johnson, and Tutu Atwell figure to be the starters heading into Week 3. Whittington figures to be the primary backup receiver and should see some action as well. He hauled in both his targets for 22 yards in the Week 2 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. The sixth-round rookie isn't a must-start option, but could be worth holding in deep leagues or dynasty formats with the Rams shorthanded.

Stud wideout Puka Nacua (knee) was placed on the injured reserve which means he'll miss at least the next four games. His absence could open up additional playing time for Whittington. However, it's worth noting that Whittington only played two snaps during the season opener. The assumption is that Cooper Kupp, Demarcus Robinson, and Tyler Johnson figure to be the starting trio for this offense. That doesn't mean Whittington can't be involved as well, but he probably won't see enough targets to warrant rostering in most formats outside of dynasty leagues.

Alongside Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp, Whittington is an interesting name to monitor ahead of draft season.

Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Jordan Whittington was selected in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft following a five-year career at Texas. The 23-year-old caught 42 passes for 505 yards and one touchdown while sharing a field with Xavier Worthy, Adonai Mitchell, and Ja'Tavion Sanders in 2024. It's rare for sixth-round rookies to see first-team opportunities in training camp, but Cameron DaSilva of the Rams Wire said he has been mixing in with the starters in Sean McVay's offense. "It can be hard for a rookie receiver to earn first-team snaps in training camp, especially on a team as deep as the Rams," DaSilva wrote. "But Whittington has been so impressive already that he's gotten opportunities to run with the starters. He even made a nice catch against Tre'Davious White last week during one of those reps with the first-team offense." Fellow wideout Cooper Kupp said Whittington is "pretty special" and is learning the offense quickly. While it's too early to project fantasy relevance for Whittington, this report should put him on the fantasy football radar in ultra-deep dynasty leagues.

Rodrigue acknowledged that "it's a sample size without pads on," but she has been impressed by Whittington's play energy away from the ball despite contact being limited. The University of Texas receiver was selected in the sixth round of last month's draft, joining a very talented Rams receiving core. He won't be able to compete with the likes of Cooper Kupp or Puka Nacua for a large target share, but it sounds like Whittington has still turned some heads and could be headed for a somewhat significant role in 2024.
