Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Jonnu Smith is reunited with offensive coordinator Arthur Smith for a third time, a partnership that has historically produced fantasy-relevant results. Smith said of his OC: "We've had a lot of success together. He will continue to move that needle, bring the best out of you, and demand the best from you. It's why we get along so well." Last year with the Miami Dolphins, Smith posted the best season of his career, with 88 catches for 884 yards and eight touchdowns. However, in his previous stint with Arthur Smith in Atlanta, he caught 50 passes for 582 yards and three touchdowns, which was his prior best. While the Steelers have other talented pass-catchers, including tight end Pat Freiermuth, Smith's offense has historically used multiple tight-end formations more than any other team. RotoBaller currently ranks the 30-year-old as a mid-range TE2 (ranked TE20) with potential for increased production due to his familiarity with the system. Smith's history with the offense and a strong preseason make him a solid late-round tight end target and a potential starter if needed.

Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Jonnu Smith (knee) is back in uniform at practice on Saturday after missing the entire preseason with a knee injury, according to Mike DeFabo of The Athletic. This will be Smith's first practice since tweaking his knee on Aug. 5. The 30-year-old should be on track to play in the Week 1 regular-season opener on Sunday, Sept. 7, against the New York Jets. However, after a career year in 2024 with the Miami Dolphins, Smith's fantasy value took a huge hit after being traded to Pittsburgh in the offseason. He should still be involved in offenive coordinator Arthur Smith's system, but he's expected to take a back seat to incumbent Pat Friermuth. In single-TE fantasy formats, managers can avoid Smith on draft day. Outside of his 88-884-8 line last year, Smith's best season was a 50-582-3 line the year prior in Atlanta.

Pittsburgh Steelers RB Jaylen Warren, TE Jonnu Smith and TE Pat Freiermuth will not play in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 9.

Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Jonnu Smith (knee) was back on the practice field at training camp on Wednesday after missing the very end of practice on Tuesday, according to Alan Saunders of PGH Steelers Now. The Steelers weren't in pads on Wednesday, but it's still a good sign that Smith's knee injury isn't very serious. The 29-year-old should be just fine for the start of the regular season in early September, but it remains to be seen if he'll play in the first preseason game this Saturday versus the Jacksonville Jaguars. Pretty much all of the fantasy excitement around Smith went away after he was traded from the Miami Dolphins to the Steelers this offseason. He broke out in 2024 with an 88-884-8 line in 17 games (six starts) but will now most likely be the second pass-catching TE in Pittsburgh behind Pat Freiermuth.
From RotoBaller
Pittsburgh Steelers TE Jonnu Smith (knee) left practice Tuesday, Aug. 5, due to knee soreness, according to head coach Mike Tomlin, and he said he'll be evaluated, but it isn't considered a significant injury.
Fantasy Spin: Smith will be battling Pat Freiermuth for targets among the tight ends, and it will be an uphill climb since Freiermuth knows the system so well. However, with a new QB at the helm, it's likely a wide-open battle. Either one could be a low-end TE1 in fantasy leagues of 12 or more teams, with Smith, perhaps, having a little more upside.
From TheHuddle
Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Jonnu Smith (knee) left Tuesday's training camp practice early with knee soreness, but head coach Mike Tomlin said it doesn't seem like a serious injury. Smith himself downplayed his injury when talking to reporters, so it's likely the 29-year-old will be back on the field in a few days. He had a career year in 2024 with the Miami Dolphins and made his first Pro Bowl appearance while catching 88 of his 111 targets for 884 yards and eight touchdowns in 17 games (six starts). Smith was the beneficiary of Miami's disappointing dink-and-dunk offense a year ago, and fantasy managers reaped the benefits. A year later after his trade from Miami to Pittsburgh, Smith is going to go undrafted in standard-sized 12-team leagues as he attempts to split playing time with Pat Freiermuth. Freiermuth is expected to be the team's primary pass-catching option at TE.

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Jonnu Smith (undisclosed) participated in individual drills during practice Saturday, July 26.
Fantasy Spin: Smith has been dealing with an injury since the start of training camp but seems to be making progress. He is familiar with the offensive scheme and should see a good amount of targets each game. He probably will not be as productive as he was last season but can still be a No. 2 tight end in fantasy leagues.

Brooke Pryor of ESPN reports that Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Jonnu Smith (undisclosed) was working in individual periods at training camp on Friday but did not work with the position group for the second wave of individual periods, which is basically the same participation level that he had on Thursday. Head coach Mike Tomlin said that Smith is day-to-day with an unspecified injury that doesn't sound very serious. The 29-year-old had a career year in 2024 with the Miami Dolphins, catching 88 passes on 111 targets for 884 yards and eight touchdowns in 17 games (six starts), and now he'll reunite with offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, who he's played for in Tennessee and Atlanta. Fantasy managers are going to need to downgrade Jonnu in fantasy this year, though, as he will probably struggle to find weekly value while sharing targets with Pat Freiermuth.

Pittsburgh Steelers TE Jonnu Smith (undisclosed) is not participating in practice Friday, July 25, but did take part in the stretching drills before practice.
Fantasy Spin: Smith seems to be dealing with a minor injury, so the team likely will be cautious with his recovery. He is coming off a terrific 2024 season but probably will see a dip in his numbers with the Steelers. He can be considered a No. 2 tight end in most fantasy leagues.
