Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes completed 24 of his 39 pass attempts for 258 yards, one touchdown, and zero interceptions during Friday's loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. He also added 57 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown. While the Chiefs came up short in Brazil, Mahomes still had a solid fantasy showing. Specifically, he played turnover-free football and was able to make things happen both on the ground and through the air. He'll drop to the low-end QB1 range heading into next week's clash with the Philadelphia Eagles, who just limited Dak Prescott to 188 passing yards.
From RotoBaller
Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes completed 24 of his 39 pass attempts for 258 yard and a touchdown and ran six times for 57 yards and a score in a 27-21 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 1.
Fantasy Spin: Much like the last couple of seasons, big plays were hard to come by for Mahomes and the Kansas City offense. It is only one game, but fantasy owners who were hoping Mahomes would return to MVP form can't be too encouraged.
From TheHuddle
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes completed 24 of 39 pass attempts (62%) for 258 yards and a touchdown in the 21-27 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. Mahomes also rushed six times for 57 yards and a touchdown in the contest. The Chiefs quarterback faced an uphill battle as he lost Xavier Worthy to injury less than two minutes into the first quarter. The 29-year-old locked in on Marquise Brown after the injury, peppering him with 16 targets in the loss. Mahomes had a good game from an individual standpoint, totaling over 300 yards and two touchdowns, but was not able to pull out the win. The Chiefs will take on the Philadelphia Eagles for a Super Bowl rematch in Week 2. The Eagles defense was arguably the best in the league last season, so Mahomes will have his work cut out for him next week. Given his strong performance against the Chargers, Mahomes should continue to be viewed as a mid-range QB1 heading into the matchup against Philadelphia.
From RotoBaller
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is set to take on the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 1 of the 2025 season. The Chiefs will face off against the Chargers on Friday in Sao Paulo, Brazil, for the first international game of the year. Mahomes is coming off a disappointing season from a statistical standpoint, but Kansas City still made it to the Super Bowl last year, so it wasn't all bad. That said, fantasy managers are anticipating a return to MVP form for Mahomes since he was drafted as the consensus QB6 across multiple platforms this offseason, despite finishing as the QB12 in 2024. There are reasons for optimism since the Kansas City offense looked in top form during their preseason game, and Mahomes looks to have a rejuvenated Travis Kelce to throw to. If the offense takes a step forward from last season, Mahomes could be a draft-day value.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes completed eight of his 13 pass attempts (62%) for 143 yards and a touchdown in the 27-29 loss to the Chicago Bears. Mahomes and the starters played the first three drives of this contest and came away with points each time. On their first drive of the game, the Chiefs flipped field position on a defensive pass interference call and ended the drive with an Isiah Pacheco rushing touchdown. On his second drive, Mahomes connected with Tyquan Thornton for a 58-yard pass and ended the drive with a field goal. The Chiefs ended their third drive with a passing touchdown from Mahomes to Rashee Rice. The Chiefs quarterback found Rice on a four-yard out route in the endzone that was timed up perfectly. The Chiefs offense appeared in sync in this contest, and Mahomes looked poised for a bounce-back season.
From RotoBaller
Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes completed eight of his 13 passes for 143 yards and a touchdown and added an 18-yard run during the preseason game against the Chicago Bears Friday, Aug. 22.
Fantasy Spin: Mahomes hasn't been a fantasy juggernaut the last couple of seasons, but he could still have potential as a low-end QB1.
From TheHuddle
Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said on Monday that he expects quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the rest of the starters to play in Friday's preseason finale against the Chicago Bears. The Chiefs typically haven't played their starters in the preseason finale under Reid, but they'll change it up and give Mahomes and the starting offense a few series later this week. The 29-year-old two-time MVP played only three snaps in the preseason opener but still managed to throw a touchdown. Mahomes is no longer a high-end fantasy QB1 after the Chiefs offense took a step back last year, with the six-time Pro Bowler throwing for under 4,000 yards for the first time as a full-time starter. KC's offense just lacked any kind of downfield threat due to injuries to their receiving corps. A bounce-back is possible, though, and the Chiefs want to get back to being explosive downfield as an offense.
From RotoBaller
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is not likely to play in the team's second preseason game of the year against the Seattle Seahawks on Friday, according to head coach Andy Reid. The two-time NFL MVP played against the Arizona Cardinals last week, throwing one pass for one yard and a touchdown. Needless to say, Mahomes doesn't need to take part in much preseason action to get ready, and it's a bonus for fantasy managers that he will not risk getting injured before Week 1 of the regular season. While Rashee Rice is expected to serve a suspension at the beginning of the year, Kansas City's passing attack could improve in 2025 with Rice, Marquise Brown, Xavier Worthy, and others taking a step forward. That said, Mahomes is unlikely to finish as a high-end QB1 in fantasy football based on what we've seen over the last two seasons.
From RotoBaller
Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said there is a good chance that QB Patrick Mahomes will not play in the preseason game Friday, Aug. 15.
Fantasy Spin: Mahomes received work in the first preseason game, so he probably will not need much more preseason work before the season. He has been one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL for several years and can be a No. 1 quarterback in fantasy leagues.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw one pass for one yard and a touchdown in the 17-20 preseason loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Mahomes found himself on the field earlier than expected after the Cardinals fumbled the opening kick deep in their own territory. The Chiefs found themselves on the Cardinals nine-yard line to begin the game and reached the one-yard line after an eight-yard rush by Isiah Pacheco. Mahomes found Jason Brownlee for a goal-line fade to cap off his only drive of the game. Mahomes has nothing to prove in these preseason games, and the team will likely continue to preserve him for the regular season. The hope is that he can bounce back from a mediocre fantasy season last year.
From RotoBaller
Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is scheduled to play the first quarter in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 9, according to head coach Andy Reid.
Fantasy Spin: Mahomes likely will not take many risks during the preseason game, but the work should help him prepare for the regular season. He ranked in the top 10 in both passing yards and passing touchdowns last season and can be a No. 1 quarterback in all fantasy leagues.
From TheHuddle
Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said that quarterback Patrick Mahomes will play the first quarter in the team's preseason opener on Saturday against the Arizona Cardinals. The Kansas City Star's Sam McDowell would be surprised if Mahomes plays the entire quarter with the starters. The six-time Pro Bowler, two-time MVP and three-time Super Bowl champion finished as the QB12 in fantasy in 2024, his lowest finish in his seven full seasons in the league. Mahomes threw for 3,928 yards, his lowest yardage total in his seven full seasons, while also tossing 26 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions in 16 regular-season starts. He came on strong towards the end of the year, but KC's lack of a downfield passing attack really hurt Mahomes. The 29-year-old is now more of a midrange QB1 fantasy target, but he could bounce back with Rashee Rice and Marquise Brown healthy and if the offense can rediscover their downfield explosiveness.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield accumulated 967 yards passing on throws completed behind the line of scrimmage in 2024 - the second-highest mark by any quarterback since 2018, according to Nex Gen Stats. Only Patrick Mahomes had more such passing yards in a season (1,058 in 2021).
Fantasy Spin: Interestingly, Mahomes has the third-, fourth- and fifth-best marks since 2018 as well. While the size of Mayfield's number under then-offensive coordinator Liam Coen is somewhat surprising, the fact that Mayfield performed so well behind the line of scrimmage shouldn't be, especially since he had the option of leaning on yard-after-catch threats such as Chris Godwin and Bucky Irving. With virtually the same personnel back in 2025 (the addition of first-round draft choice Emeka Egbuka being the big change), it would be shocking if new offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard does not have Mayfield lean on the easy throws again in 2025.
