2025 RTSports Outlook

Johnston did much better in year two but was still a little erratic. He had 55 receptions for 711 yards and eight touchdowns. He was 39th overall in fantasy receiver scoring. Johnson had some huge games, topping 20 fantasy points three times. He did disappear some weeks, though, going without a catch two times. Johnston also dropped seven passes, missing out on some plays. He is likely headed down the depth chart this year, though, with the Chargers taking Tre Harris in this year's draft. Johnston has a big-time skillset for the position. He has a great blend of speed and size. He can get downfield in a hurry. He also is a huge target because of his size and wingspan. Johnston remains an iffy route runner and will drop some passes.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Johnston is a real wild card. He is a boom or bust pick and a much better option in best-ball leagues. Take him as a reserve fantasy receiver and hope it all comes together for him. He could get around 50 receptions for 650 yards and five touchdowns.

RotoBaller's Outlook

Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Quentin Johnston's short career has been plagued by horrendous drops and terrible consistency, problems reminiscent of his college days. Though he's a big and highly athletic receiver, he struggles in contested catch situations, is unable to be a "hands-catcher", instead opting to catch with his body as much as possible, and rarely made big plays except when he was schemed wide open by the offense. As a result, the Chargers appear to have given up on Johnston having a premier role in the passing game, having drafted WR Ladd McConkey in 2024 and WR Tre Harris in 2025, both in Round 2 of their respective drafts. McConkey and Harris should be the one-two punch of this offense, with Johnson serving as the third wideout, leaving little room for him to get significant volume in a run-heavy offense. With such low upside, it's hard to imagine Johnston having a true breakout season in 2025.

The Athletic's Daniel Popper writes that Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Quentin Johnston worked with the first-team offense alongside second-year wideout Ladd McConkey and Jalen Reagor for the bulk of the work during mandatory minicamp this week. Rookie Tre Harris got limited reps with quarterback Justin Herbert. Johnston, the 21st overall pick in 2023 out of TCU, struggled with drops and was a disappointing in his rookie season, but he bounced back with a 55-711-8 line in 15 regular-season games (11 starts) in 2024. The problem is that his role could be in jeopardy in 2025 with the addition of Harris and big-play threat Mike Williams. With the added competition and Johnston still lacking for efficiency in a run-first offense, both his fantasy ceiling and floor will be low. RotoBaller has the 23-year-old ranked as the WR59.

The Athletic's Daniel Popper thinks Los Angeles Chargers former first-rounder wide receiver Quentin Johnston will have to earn his roster spot in training camp this summer after the team added wideout Tre Harris in the second round this year. Harris and Mike Williams are downfield, contested-catch weapons for quarterback Justin Herbert, while Ladd McConkey has already proven himself as a game-changing slot receiver after just one year in the NFL. Popper thinks the Chargers will initially have McConkey in the slot, Williams at X and Harris at Z. Rookie Keandre Lambert-Smith will give the Bolts more speed on the field when they want it. The drop-prone Johnston was better last year with a 55-711-8 line in 15 games, but the addition of Harris is bad news for his fantasy value in single-year and dynasty/keeper formats in 2025.

Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Quentin Johnston did nothing right in a Wild Card loss to the Houston Texans. Johnston was targeted five times and made no catches, the second game this season where he saw that many targets but still couldn't do anything with them. The play that encapsulated the NFL career of "QJ" so far was a fourth down route where he did not even get himself into first down territory, and then also just dropped the pass for good measure. Johnston showed some flashes this year of what made him a first-round pick in 2023, but he also showed some of what has Chargers fans hoping he's cut before next season begins.

Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Quentin Johnston (thigh/illness) is officially active for Saturday's game against the Houston Texans. Johnston opened the week as a limited participant but was then downgraded to a non-participant on Thursday. However, he was able to return to limited participation during Friday's final practice session. In Week 18, the sophomore wideout enjoyed the best game of his career, tallying 186 yards on 13 receptions. This was the first time he caught double-digit passes this season and the second time he tallied at least 100 yards. Johnston is worth a look as a WR2 in DFS this afternoon as he will face a struggling Houston secondary that has allowed the 11th-most PPR points to opposing wideouts this season.

Jan 10 4:00pm CT

According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Quentin Johnston (thigh/illness) is "good to go" for Saturday's playoff game against the Houston Texans. Johnston was listed as questionable on Thursday's final injury report. The 23-year-old is coming off a career day where he tallied 186 yards on 13 receptions. This was the second time he eclipsed the century mark this season and the first time he brought in double-digit receptions. Over his previous five games, Johnston averaged nine targets with 69.0 yards per game. Fantasy managers should view Johnston as a solid flex option in DFS formats as he is facing a Houston secondary that has allowed the 11th-most PPR points to opposing wideouts this season.

According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Quentin Johnston (thigh/illness) is listed as questionable for Saturday's playoff game against the Houston Texans. Johnston opened the week as a limited participant but was then downgraded to a non-participant on Wednesday. He returned to limited capacity on Thursday but still carries a questionable tag. In Week 18, Johnston enjoyed a career game, bringing in 13 passes for 186 yards. This was the second time he tallied at least 100 yards this season and the first time he caught double-digit passes. No.3 wide receiver Joshua Palmer (foot) has already been ruled out for this game. As a result, this could leave rookie Ladd McConkey as the lone wideout for Justin Herbert. If Johnston were to sit out, McConkey would carry high-end WR1 upside in DFS formats.

Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Quentin Johnston (thigh, illness) was downgraded to a non-participant in practice on Wednesday after he was listed as limited in the first practice of the week on Tuesday. Hopefully for the Chargers, Johnston's absence on Wednesday was because he wasn't feeling well and not because of his thigh injury. The 23-year-old's practice status on Thursday will go a long way towards determining whether he'll be able to play on Saturday against the hosting Houston Texans in the wild-card round of the playoffs. With Joshua Palmer (foot) missing the Week 18 regular-season finale and not practicing yet this week, the Chargers' receiving corps behind rookie Ladd McConkey could be down to DJ Chark and Derius Davis. If Johnston ends up playing, he will have considerable upside as a WR2 in fantasy against a porous Texans secondary.

Jan 7 5:30pm CT

According to the team, Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Quentin Johnston (thigh) was a limited participant on Tuesday. Johnston is coming off a career-day where he tallied 186 yards on 13 receptions. This was only the second time this season he eclipsed 100 yards in a single game and first time he brought in double-digit receptions. Fantasy managers should not be overly concerned with his status during Tuesday's practice as he did not show any signs of an injury during Sunday's game. However, fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status in case he faces a setback. Since Week 14, Johnston has become a top option in Los Angeles passing attack as he has seen an impressive nine targets per game and averaged 69.0 yards per game. Johnston should be viewed as a solid option in DFS formats on Saturday facing a struggling Houston secondary.

Chargers' WR Quentin Johnston scored an impressive 31.60 fantasy points in Sunday's Week 18 win in Las Vegas. Johnston caught 13 passes for 186 yards. It's the 1st time this season Johnston scored at least 25 fantasy points in a game.

Jan 5 10:00pm CT

Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Quentin Johnston had a career game in a Week 18 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. Johnston led the team in targets, catches, and yards, all by a significant margin. He was targeted 14 times, making 13 catches for 186 yards. It was the second 100+ yard game of his career. He was the focal point of the offense, as no other Charger made more than five catches. It was an excellent game for "QJ" and he'll look to keep the momentum going on Saturday when the Bolts face the Houston Texans in the first round of the playoffs.

Dynasty | Chargers wide receiver Quentin Johnston caught 13-of-14 targets for 186 yards in a win against the Raiders. Dynasty Analysis: Those are career highs in terms of catches and yards for Johnston. While this season was certainly one of highs and lows for Johnston, he clearly ended on a high note. After a lost rookie season, Johnston's dynasty ADP has been on a steady climb and while we still need to see more, the "bust" label seems to have at least gone away for the time being.

Los Angeles Chargers' WR Quentin Johnston had 13 receptions for 186 yards but no touchdowns in Sunday's win in Las Vegas.

Jan 3 7:40pm CT

Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Quentin Johnston is a decent option for Week 18 fantasy lineups. Whether or not the Chargers will play to win on Sunday depends on the results of Saturday's Bengals-Steelers game, but Johnston is likely to play regardless. With Josh Palmer (foot) already ruled out and Ladd McConkey potentially getting some rest before the playoffs, "QJ" could be the lead receiver for the Chargers for at least part of this game. He has some touchdown upside and a decently high floor as well.

Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Quentin Johnston made five catches in a Week 17 win over the New England Patriots. Johnston was targeted eight times, making five catches for 48 yards. He had a long play of 19 yards. Like usual throughout his career, there was more there for Johnston to do but Ladd McConkey remained the first look and the leader of the Bolts passing game.

From RotoBaller

Dec 26 7:00pm CT

Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Quentin Johnston will have another good matchup where he can try to find some consistency in Week 17 against the New England Patriots. Johnston has had a boom-or-bust season without too many huge booms. In the past four games, he has either finished as a top-25 fantasy receiver or outside of the top-80. The Patriots defense hasn't done much to slow down opposing wide receivers, so Johnston could find himself in more of a WR2 boom week. His floor is always close to zero, but he should be able to put some points up this week.

From RotoBaller

Dec 19 11:40pm CT

Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Quentin Johnston played an insignificant role in a Thursday Night Football win over the Denver Broncos in Week 16. Johnston tied for the team lead with six targets but made just three catches for a total of 18 yards. The biggest play of the game for Johnston was a dropped pass when he was absolutely wide open and given a perfect pass from his quarterback Justin Herbert. The same drop issues that plagued him throughout his rookie year clearly remain this season despite marked improvement in his overall game. He'll look to bounce back rather than have the ball bounce off his hands in Week 17 against the New England Patriots.

From RotoBaller

Dec 18 3:40pm CT

Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Quentin Johnston will look to continue his recent solid run in a Week 16 Thursday Night Football game against the Denver Broncos. Johnston popped up on the injury report earlier this week, but it was simply a clerical error as the wide out has been healthy and practicing in full. Johnston has gone two games in a row with a fantasy WR2 finish and while the Broncos secondary has been excellent this season, "QJ" should see enough targets to have the chance to once again finish in those ranks. He's not a huge upside guy, but he's developed a decent enough floor, especially in games where the Chargers are expected to rely on the passing game.

Dec 17 11:20pm CT

Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Quentin Johnston has been removed from the injury report. Johnston was listed as a non-participant on Monday, but Daniel Popper of The Athletic clarified that the Chargers had intended to list offensive lineman Zion Johnson, not Quentin Johnston. As of Tuesday, Johnston remains a full-go in practice and is not dealing with any injury. He'll suit up in Week 16 against the Denver Broncos.
