The team likes how Magee played in coverage this spring and they also think he showed he can be an effective blitzer. "He doesn't carry himself like a rookie," defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. said. "You would not know that with the way he handles himself, the way he absorbs information. He doesn't [make] a lot of mistakes."

Shula will be taking over for Raheem Morris, who left the team after three seasons as their defensive coordinator to become the next head coach of the Atlanta Falcons. Before the promotion, the Miami Dolphins were looking to interview Shula for the same position. Shula has been in LA with head coach Sean McVay since February of 2017, when he was hired as a defensive assistant. He was also a defensive quality control coach with the Los Angeles Chargers for two years before joining the Rams. The Rams defense ranked 22nd in total DVOA in 2023 after losing key players like cornerback Jalen Ramsey and linebacker Bobby Wagner last offseason.
