2024 RTSports Outlook

Kamara was suspended the first three games of the season and missed the last one with an ankle injury. He still managed to finish 12th overall in fantasy running back scoring. He had his typical productive fantasy season. Kamara had 1,160 total yards and six touchdowns in 13 games. Kamara had a ton of receptions once again, catching 75 passes. It was the first time he topped 60 receptions in a season since 2020. Kamara had at least 11 fantasy points all but two games. Kamara has at least 1,100 total yards every season in the NFL. He has three of seven seasons with double-digit touchdowns. Kamara will turn 29 years old before the start of the season. He remains the starter for the Saints, but you have to wonder if he is starting to slow down a little at this stage of his career. Kamara is a playmaker. He can line up as a receiver as well as a running back. He has plus hands and can get to the next level in a hurry. Kamara can be a game changer. Plus, he runs with power despite not being the biggest back.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Kamara is not the same fantasy back as years back but remains a top 20 back because of his pass-catching ability. Look for around 1,200 total yards, double-digit scores and 60 receptions.

RotoBaller's Outlook

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara enjoyed another fine season in 2023. He finished as the overall RB12 in full PPR leagues and was the RB3 in PPR fantasy points per game (PPG). However, serious cracks have emerged in his profile. Kamara finished 46th out of 49 eligible backs in Next Gen Stats Rush Yards Over Expectation (RYOE). Among backs with 100 carries, Kamara finished 40th out of 49 eligible backs in Missed Tackles Forced Per Attempt (MTF/ATT) per Fantasy Points Data Suite. He had career lows in rushing yards, yards per reception (Y/R), and yards per target (Y/TGT). The writing appears to be on the wall. Gamers should not be surprised if things fully cratered this year, and a Todd Gurley-like drop-off is within the realm of possibilities. Kamara currently has an NFFC average draft position (ADP) of 54th overall and is the 16th running back off draft boards. This may seem like a bargain for a player with Kamara's upside, but the advanced data and raw statistics suggest otherwise. Entering his age 29 season, Kamara still has value in PPR leagues but poses a greater risk than previous years. Fantasy players should be aware of these risks before drafting him.

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara (back) participated in team drills on Wednesday, marking his most complete practice in over a week, though his reps were still limited. Head coach Dennis Allen expressed confidence in the team's running back depth, stating, "I think we've got guys that can play in the NFL, so that's not a concern of mine." Despite missing four games last seasonthree due to suspensionKamara finished second among running backs in receptions (75) and targets (86). He averaged 89.2 scrimmage yards per game, scored six touchdowns, and caught a career-high 87.2% of his targets. Apart from concerns about age and potential injury, Kamara is poised to be a solid RB2 in drafts, particularly in PPR leagues, if he remains healthy leading up to the season.

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara (back) returned to training camp practice on Tuesday. Kamara didn't exactly do much in a light practice session on Tuesday, but it was a good sign nonetheless to see him back in action after being held out since Aug. 13 with back tightness. It remains to be seen if the Saints will want the 29-year-old veteran to play at all in the preseason finale this Sunday against the visiting Tennessee Titans, but either way, it looks as though he'll be good to go for the Week 1 regular-season opener in early September. The five-time Pro Bowler averaged under 4.0 yards per carry in 2023 for the second time in the last three years, but he made up for it by catching 75 passes for 466 yards in 13 games. Kamara is obviously more attractive in point-per-reception fantasy leagues as an RB2, but if his volume dips at all in the passing game, we could see his fantasy value crater very quickly.

New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara (back) did not participate in practice Friday, Aug. 16.

From TheHuddle

Aug 16 2:10pm ET

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara (back) was not spotted at Friday's practice. That makes a third consecutive absence at training camp due to a back issue for Kamara, who appears all but certain to sit out Sunday's preseason game against the hosting San Francisco 49ers at Levi's Stadium. Fantasy managers shouldn't be concerned with Kamara's injury at the moment, but it would certainly be encouraging to see him back on the field at some point next week with the regular season quickly approaching. It doesn't help the Saints that there remains no sign of second-year back Kendre Miller (hamstring) at practice. Veteran power back Jamaal Williams makes sense as a bench stash in deep fantasy leagues while New Orleans' backfield remains banged up, and he figures to draw the start on Sunday against San Francisco.

New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara (back) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Aug. 14, because of back tightness.

Fantasy Spin: Fantasy players should monitor the situation to see if Kamara misses extended time because of the injury. He will be a weekly starting option in all fantasy leagues if healthy.

From TheHuddle

Aug 14 3:00pm ET

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara (back) remained out of Wednesday's practice at training camp. Kamara is managing a back issue that he's dealt with in the past, and there appears to be a minimal amount of concern regarding the star back's health at this point. It's looking unlikely that he'll make an appearance in Sunday's preseason game against the hosting San Francisco 49ers, though. Kamara has plenty of risk in 2024 fantasy drafts while entering his age-29 season and witnessing his rushing efficiency decline in each of the last three years, but his role in New Orleans' passing game as quarterback Derek Carr's security blanket cannot be ignored. Last year, Kamara drew 87 targets despite missing four games via suspension, ranking third among RBs in full-PPR fantasy points per game (17.9). Until Kendre Miller (hamstring) is back at practice, Kamara remains a decent RB2 bet in fantasy.

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara (back) did not practice on Tuesday. Very little is known about the injury, but it is described as "back tightness". Kamara is in line for another large-volume season with the Saints. Jamaal Williams and Kendre Miller are in line for touches behind Kamara. However, when healthy, Kamara dominates the backfield touches for the Saints. Should this injury persist, then the Saints may be faced with the same inefficiencies they experienced from Williams and Miller when Kamara was suspended for the first three games of 2023. Fantasy managers should continue to check back to ensure that Kamara will not miss significant time.

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamar's contract impasse hasn't affected his preparation for the 2024 season, and the Saints believe he can regain his peak performance. Kamara is still looking for his first 1,000-yard rushing season. "He's really embraced the change in the offense," head coach Dennis Allen said. "Fits his running style." The 29-year-old has two years left on his current deal and includes $22.4 million in non-guaranteed salary in 2025, which is untenable for both sides. Kamara, who was a Pro Bowler in each of his first five seasons in the NFL, averaged a career-low 3.9 yards per carry in a stale Saints offense last year, but he made up for it in fantasy with 75 receptions for 466 yards in 13 games. There could be more efficiency in a new offense, but Kamara is also at the age when RBs typically start to show signs of decline. He's best targeted as an RB2 in PPR leagues.

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara drew the start in Saturday's 16-14 victory over the Arizona Cardinals. The veteran running back did not see much action, carrying the ball twice for three yards before exiting the game. Kamara remains in line to see a significant workload in his age 29 season, especially with second-year running back Kendre Miller (hamstring) already hurt.

Coach Dennis Allen announced that New Orleans Saints defensive end Chase Young (neck) was cleared for "full participation" on July 22. Allen noted that Young would continue to increase his daily activity and has complied with all the training staff's requirements. Young signed a one-year, fully guaranteed $13 million contract with the Saints this offseason. New Orleans aims to make Young a key component of their pass rush after he tied his career-high with 7.5 sacks last season, alongside 25 tackles and 41 pressures with Washington and San Francisco. The Saints finished the 2023 season ranked 28th with just 34 sacks, their lowest total since 2016. Young hopes to strengthen the New Orleans defense, potentially creating more fantasy opportunities for star offensive players like Chris Olave and Alvin Kamara.

New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara is expected to participate in practice Wednesday, July 23, despite his contract situation, according to head coach Dennis Allen.

Fantasy Spin: Kamara left minicamp early because of his contract but seems to be ready to practice during camp. He is a big part of the Saints offense when healthy and will be a weekly starting option in fantasy leagues.

From TheHuddle

Jul 23 2:50pm ET

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara has reported for training camp despite leaving the team's minicamp early. Kamara's agent confirmed at the time that the running back's departure from minicamp was contract-related. Kamara's deal runs through 2025, and his appearance at camp should quell any speculation among fantasy managers that he was preparing for some kind of holdout. The five-time Pro Bowler caught a career-high 87.2% of his passes in 2023, but he's entering his age-29 season and has watched his rushing efficiency dip in each of the past three years. Despite having to share touches with Jamaal Williams and Kendre Miller, however, Kamara still projects as a fine RB2 in PPR setups after closing as the overall RB3 in full-PPR points per game over 13 contests last year.

From RotoBaller

Jul 23 2:43pm ET

New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara reported for the start of training camp despite his frustration over his contract situation, according to sources.

Fantasy Spin: Kamara skipped some of the team's mandatory minicamp practices, but it appears there will be no drama regarding his contract for now. The bigger question for Kamara is how he fits into new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak's scheme and how much work he will lose to 2023 draft pick Kendre Miller. Kamara's pass-game role should remain a key part of the offense, so fantasy managers should feel relatively good about his ability to deliver at a RB2 level.

From TheHuddle

Jul 7 1:10pm ET

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara has been one of the best at his position in team history, but he could be nearing the end of the line with his deal set up to make it easier to release him after the 2024 season. Kamara is looking for more long-term security, which is why he walked out of the team facility before the final mandatory minicamp practice because he's unhappy with his current deal. His contract ranked below only Christian McCaffrey when he signed it in 2020, but four years later, Kamara isn't anywhere close to CMC. The 28-year-old has surpassed 1,000 scrimmage yards in each of the last seven seasons and remains versatile, but the Saints may be considering moving on as he heads into his age-29 season. His abilities as a pass-catcher have kept him afloat in PPR formats, but even in those leagues, fantasy managers should consider him more of an RB2 moving forward.

New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara may not report for the start of training camp if the Saints do not improve his contract situation, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

Jun 14 12:20pm ET

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara skipped the team's final mandatory minicamp practice this week due to contract-related reasons, according to his agent, Brad Cicala. Kamara was in attendance for minicamp but didn't take part in on-field workouts as he seeks a new contract. The 28-year-old veteran has two years left on his current deal, and not much progress has been made on a new contract. The former third-round selection in 2017 was a Pro Bowler in each of his first five seasons in the league and has surpassed 1,000 scrimmage yards in all seven of his campaigns for the Saints. However, Kamara has never been a 1,000-yard rusher and had a career-low 694 rushing yards and five touchdowns in 13 games in 2023. Kamara is more attractive in PPR leagues for his pass-catching prowess. Keep in mind that he's averaged 4.0 yards per carry or less in the last three seasons.

Jun 13 2:23pm ET

New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara skipped the team's final mandatory minicamp practice on Thursday, June 13, due to what is believed to be contract-related reasons, according to Jeff Duncan of NOLA.com.

Fantasy Spin: Kamara will get nearly a $10 million bump on his base salary over the last two years, so that is likely not the issue. NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports the two sides have been discussing a contract restructure for a few months, likely with an eye on 2025 when Kamara is set to make $25 million. Expect the two sides to get something worked out over the next month or two to keep Kamara in New Orleans at a much lower number past this season.

From TheHuddle

Jun 9 7:03pm ET

New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara is expected to participate in the mandatory minicamp this upcoming week, according to head coach Dennis Allen. Kamara did not report for the voluntary workouts this offseason.

Fantasy Spin: Kamara should be the main running back for the Saints again this season and should see plenty of touches each game. He should be a weekly starting option in all fantasy leagues this upcoming season.
