2024 RTSports Outlook

Prescott had the best season of his career, posting MVP numbers. He led the league in passing touchdowns (36) and was third overall in fantasy quarterback scoring. He had multiple touchdowns in 12 games and 20-plus fantasy points 11 times, showing great consistency all season long. Prescott led all of football in on-target percentage (82.6 percent). He also was second overall in bad throw percentage (11.7 percent), missing on very few throws. Prescott remains the starter in the Cowboy's high-powered offense. Prescott has 28 or more touchdowns in five of seven seasons. He is an accurate quarterback that normally makes great decisions. Prescott does a good job of taking care of the football but isn't afraid to take chances down the field. He also can make plays with his legs, having 200-plus rushing yards in five seasons.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Prescott might drive Cowboys fans a little crazy but he is an elite fantasy quarterback in this offense. He gets it done on a weekly basis. He might have a hard time repeating last year's huge season but is still a top-10 fantasy options in this offense. Look for around 4,500-passing yards, 35 total touchdowns and around 200-rushing yards.

RotoBaller's Outlook

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott put together the best season of his career in 2023. He threw for 4,516 yards, 36 touchdowns, and nine interceptions, which helped him finish as the runner-up to Lamar Jackson in the MVP voting. Fantasy managers who drafted Prescott last year were also rewarded big-time, as he finished as the QB3 and averaged 20.7 fantasy points per game. Now, heading into the 2024 season, the Cowboys quarterback is looking to build off that campaign. He will remain a strong QB1 option this season, especially given his fantasy track record. The 30-year-old has finished as a top-10 fantasy quarterback in five of eight seasons. In two of those years that he finished outside the top 10 (2020 and 2022), he was injured for most of the season. So, assuming Prescott can stay healthy in 2024, he should be in store for another strong fantasy campaign.

The Dallas Cowboys signed wide receiver CeeDee Lamb to a four-year extension this week, and with that situation taken care of, all eyes shift toward quarterback Dak Prescott. The former fourth-round pick out of Mississippi State is entering the final year of his current deal, and time is running out to reach an extension before Week 1 of the regular season. However, team owner Jerry Jones said the situation remains unchanged, and Todd Archer of ESPN reports the two sides don't appear to be close to a deal. This will be a situation worth monitoring, but there is no indication Prescott will miss any game action if he heads into the season without a long-term contract. With the Cowboys' rushing attack likely to be downgraded this season, Dallas could have a pass-happier offense in 2024. Prescott could be a value pick as his QB10 ADP, especially if he sees additional red zone carries and pass attempts.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is entering the final year of his contract with the organization. The two sides have reportedly had good conversation about a long term extension. The good news for Cowboys fans is that Prescott appears willing to play through the final year of his deal. The same cannot be said about fellow teammate CeeDee Lamb who is currently holding out for an extension. If the Cowboys extend Prescott it should lower his 2024 cap hit, which as a result should give the organization more money to get a deal done with Lamb. It's unlikely that the organization wants these issues to roll over into the regular season, so we'll see if anything happens over the next few weeks.

Aug 15 1:40pm ET

With Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb not at training camp due to a contract holdout, veteran Brandin Cooks continues to be quarterback Dak Prescott's top target. The two were on the same page again on Wednesday during a joint practice with the Los Angeles Rams. "He's having a hell of a camp," head coach Mike McCarthy said of Cooks. "I think we had a statistic last week that throughout every three catches that he's made in the team work has been either a touchdown or a big play. He's had a great offseason. He's always in peak condition. I really think, just in my time with him, he's at the top of his game." Things will change in the regular season when Lamb is in the fold, but Cooks shouldn't be ignored late in fantasy drafts now that Michael Gallup is gone. He's coming off back-to-back seasons under 700 receiving yards but could bounce back as Dallas' No. 2 in 2024.

Aug 14 10:10pm ET

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott (ankle) returned to full participation for Wednesday's joint practice with the Los Angeles Rams. Prescott has missed a couple days recently at training camp due to ankle soreness and was held out of the team's preseason opener on Sunday versus the Rams, but it's a non-issue and he should be 100 percent ready to go for the start of the 2024 regular season. It remains to be seen if Prescott and some of the team's starters will see action in the second preseason game this Saturday against the Las Vegas Raiders, but if he does, it likely won't be for more than a series or two. The 31-year-old is heading into his final season under contract in 2024 after a career year in 2023. Prescott is a QB1 in fantasy, but he's not an elite one because of the fact that he's not really a rushing threat.

From RotoBaller

Aug 13 8:20pm ET

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott (ankle) was scheduled to take part in Tuesday's mock game. "If we were in pads today, he would practice," head coach Mike McCarthy said. Prescott will then return to a joint practice on Wednesday with the Los Angeles Rams. The 31-year-old has had some residual ankle soreness crop up this summer, and although the Cowboys held him out of the preseason opener on Sunday, he's in no danger of missing the start of the 2024 regular season. Depending on how his ankle responds in his return to practice, Prescott could suit up and play a few series in the second preseason game this Saturday against the Las Vegas Raiders. Prescott had the finest season of his career in 2023, but his lack of rushing production keeps him out of the elite tier of QB1s.

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott (ankle) said he expects to be on the field when the team resumes practice on Tuesday, Aug. 13.

From TheHuddle

Aug 11 9:40pm ET

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott (ankle) expects to practice when the team returns to the field on Tuesday, according to Jon Machota of The Athletic. The veteran quarterback clarified that his ankle is "fine" even though soreness held him out of Dallas' preseason opener. Given that Prescott will practice on Tuesday, fantasy managers can let out a sigh of relief knowing that the Dallas quarterback avoided a serious injury. He remains on track to start for Dallas in Week 1, ranking as a low-end QB1 option in most redraft leagues.

From RotoBaller

Aug 9 8:20pm ET

The Dallas Cowboys announced on Friday that quarterback Dak Prescott (ankle) was given a precautionary day off at training camp on Friday due to ankles soreness. It should be nothing to worry about, but Prescott is also not expected to play in Sunday's preseason opener versus the Los Angeles Rams. The 31-year-old continues to manage occasional ankle soreness stemming from his broken ankle several years ago and also caused a stir back in early July when he was seen wearing a protective walking boot on his right foot while on vacation. Prescott continues to maintain that he'll be a full-go for the start of the regular season in Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns despite not getting a long-term contract extension as he heads into the final year of his current deal. He had the best year of his career in 2023 but has a lower floor and ceiling than most big-name QBs because of his lack of rushing numbers.

From RotoBaller

Aug 9 2:53pm ET

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott (ankle) is being held out of practice Friday, Aug. 9, because of ankle soreness, but the team said it is precautionary.

Fantasy Spin: Prescott probably will not see much playing time during the preseason, so he will have plenty of time to recover from the injury. He should be considered a low-end No. 1 quarterback in all fantasy leagues.

From TheHuddle

Aug 9 2:50pm ET

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is unlikely to play in the preseason, but if they had to play a regular-season game, he said he'd be ready. "I'm going into Year 9, I've had a lot of experience," Prescott said Thursday. "I think all of that carries into my confidence to say I could play a game right now." The Cowboys held a joint practice with the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday, and Prescott looked sharp in his team-drill work against the Rams' first-team defense, completing several passes to wide receiver Jalen Tolbert and tight end Jake Ferguson. With All-Pro wideout CeeDee Lamb not practicing, his top target was veteran receiver Brandin Cooks. The 31-year-old three-time Pro Bowler was the runner-up for the NFL MVP Award in 2023, leading the league with 36 passing touchdowns and 410 completions in 17 appearances. Prescott is a midrange QB1 pick in fantasy drafts after the top-tier options are off the board.

From RotoBaller

Jul 31 10:43pm ET

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott threw nine touchdown passes during 7-on-7 and team drills at practice Wednesday, July 31, and he has yet to throw an interception through two padded sessions.

Fantasy Spin: While there has been plenty of talk about whether Prescott is worthy of a big contract extension, there is no denying his ability to put up quality numbers. He should be a reliable QB1 again this season.

From TheHuddle

Jul 27 6:40pm ET

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is participating in training camp despite being on an expiring contract. "Yes," owner Jerry Jones said when asked if Prescott could be at his best while also playing on the final year of his current agreement. "That implies that he won't get a new deal, and that's not the case. Those things can change everyday. It can happen." With Jordan Love and Tua Tagovailoa landing new contracts, the focus will shift to Prescott and the Cowboys. While this situation has been ongoing for quite some time, it appears both sides are willing to work to get something done as soon as possible. The signal-caller finished last season by throwing for 4,516 yards, 36 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. As a result, Prescott is expected to remain a top fantasy performer, regardless of his contract situation.

From RotoBaller

Jul 25 7:10pm ET

When asked if the 2024 season would be quarterback Dak Prescott's last year with the organization, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said, "I don't think so. I do not think this will be his last year with the Cowboys at all." "We think we can get them both done." executive vice president Stephen Jones said when asked about getting contract extensions done with both Prescott and receiver CeeDee Lamb. He also indicated it "does require" to make tougher decisions on other players. Lamb is currently holding out of training camp as he seeks a new deal, while Prescott is in line to play the 2024 campaign on the final year of the four-year contract he signed in 2021. Prescott is due to make $55 million this year after a career season in 2023. The 30-year-old is much more likely to hit the open market next March if he doesn't sign a new extension with Dallas before Week 1 this fall.

From RotoBaller

Jul 25 3:43pm ET

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott is entering the final year of his contract, but team owner Jerry Jones emphasized to reporters on Thursday, July 25, that he does not believe 2024 will be Prescott's final season with the team.

Fantasy Spin: The Cowboys are in bad shape in terms of trying to keep their core together, as CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons each believe they deserve the highest non-quarterback contracts in the league. Meanwhile, Prescott has the leverage to push for the biggest contract in NFL history. It seems reasonable to believe Prescott's contract extension will be completed within the next month. Either way, Prescott is a strong QB1 option in fantasy, as long as Lamb eventually reports.

From TheHuddle

Jul 21 9:33am ET

The Dallas Cowboys are expected to prioritize negotiations with WR CeeDee Lamb on a contract extension over talks with QB Dak Prescott on a long-term deal because of Lamb's intentions to hold out from training camp. Prescott is expected to participate in the team's first practice session Thursday, July 25.

Fantasy Spin: Lamb is slated to earn $17.99 million on the fifth-year option of his rookie contract and is eligible to receive the franchise tag in 2025 but wants to be paid like one of the league's top receivers right now. He led the league in catches (135) and established a single-season franchise record for receiving yards (1,749) in 2023 and should be a must-start option in all fantasy leagues, since he is unlikely to miss any regular-season games due to his contract situation.

From TheHuddle

Jul 10 11:43pm ET

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott (foot) said there is absolutely nothing wrong with his ankle.

Fantasy Spin: Prescott was seen in a walking boot, but he has since removed it. He was the QB3 in fantasy last year and will be a top-five option again this year.

From TheHuddle

Jul 10 11:43pm ET

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott recently revealed that he and his agent have had 'some conversations' with the team regarding a new contract, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Fantasy Spin: There is hope after all. Then again, having conversations doesn't mean "agreeing to terms" is coming anytime soon. Prescott holds the leverage in contract talks and could be in line for around $58 to $60 million per season if he wants to take advantage of his position. If anything is going to happen, it will almost certainly come in the next two weeks and before the Cowboys report to training camp.

From TheHuddle

Jul 10 1:10pm ET

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott said that his agent and the Cowboys have had "conversations back and forth," with Prescott saying that "the money and all that will take care of itself." He was also seen in a walking boot recently while on vacation, but Prescott said his surgically repaired ankle is completely fine and there's nothing to worry about. The 30-year-old is coming off a career year and is heading into the final year of his current contract in 2024. The Cowboys cannot trade him and cannot use the franchise tag on him, so Prescott has some real leverage in contract talks this offseason. Prescott could be in line to make around $60 million per year on a new deal, which could be shorter in length if Dallas gets something done with him. Prescott isn't an elite QB1 in fantasy because of his lack of rushing, but he's certainly a decent fallback option as a midrange QB1.

From RotoBaller

Jul 9 2:10pm ET

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott (ankle) said he will do his trip with his pass-catchers before training camp kicks off at the end of July as he has done the last several years. Prescott said the plan for now is for receiver CeeDee Lamb to be in attendance. The 30-year-old caused a stir over the weekend when he was seen wearing a walking boot while on vacation, but he was wearing it strictly as a precaution after some soreness developed in his surgically repaired right ankle following two hard workouts. Prescott was just being cautious and does not anticipate it being an issue when camp begins. He had surgery on his ankle back in 2020 due to a compound fracture and dislocation. Prescott should be 100% for the start of the 2024 season and should be considered a solid midrange QB1 target after coming off a great 2023 campaign.
