2024 RTSports Outlook

Toney had another disappointing season, failing to emerge in the Chiefs offense. He had his chances but was plagued by some bad drops and inconsistent play. He played little late in the season after getting his chances early. Toney has two straight seasons with fewer than 200-receiving yards and his career high in yards came his rookie season (420). Toney is a talented player but might be running out of time to make a big impact. Toney is a playmaker. He has great speed and is a game changer with the ball in his hands. He does lack a little size and strength, though, and inconsistency has plagued him throughout his career.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Toney might be worth a late-round look but that might even be a stretch. A sudden jump in production would be a mild surprise. He could get around 20 receptions for 200 yards and a score.

RotoBaller's Outlook

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney struggled with five drops in limited duty throughout the 2023 season. He had to undergo a knee meniscus trim after getting hurt during a punt return drill in training camp but was ostensibly fine by Week 1, where he caught one ball for one yard on five targets. Toney would never finish better than the PPR WR40 in any week as Rashee Rice became the only reliable KC WR to deploy. And now the Chiefs brought in Marquise Brown on the outside while also drafting Xavier Worthy as a speedster to replace Marquez Valdes-Scantling. Toney joins Skyy Moore and Justin Watson as depth, but Toney's outlook could increase if Rice faces discipline for offseason troubles. Still, his early half-PPR ADP of WR102 and RotoBaller's WR111 rank speak to the modest expectations.

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said that wide receiver Kadarius Toney (ankle) is dealing with an ankle injury at training camp. Injuries have followed Toney everywhere early in his career. It remains to be seen how serious his ankle injury is, but any time missed in camp could be detrimental to Toney's chances of earning a prominent role in KC's offense to begin the year. The 25-year-old former first-round pick of the New York Giants was a big letdown in 2023 in his first full year with the Chiefs, as he finished the regular season with just 27 receptions on 38 targets for 169 yards and one touchdowns in 13 games (two starts). Working as a returner on special teams might be where Toney makes his biggest impact in 2024 if he can stay healthy. Even if Rashee Rice opens the year on suspension, which is expected, Toney belongs on the waiver wire in fantasy.

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney is getting plenty of repetitions with the team's projected starters early in training camp practices this week. Toney was also seen doing drills with the running backs this week, so the Chiefs clearly haven't given up on his talent despite a disappointing year in 2023. The 25-year-old former first-rounder missed more time due to injury last year, too, playing in only 13 games (two starts). Toney finished with 27 catches (38 targets) for just 169 yards and one touchdown. Rashee Rice is expected to be suspended at some point in 2024, but the additions of rookie first-rounder Xavier Worthy and Marquise Brown figure to make things even more difficult for Toney to find a significant role in the Chiefs' offense. In most leagues, fantasy managers are going to want to see evidence of Toney taking the next step before putting him on their roster.

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney was seen working as a running back during portions of the team's first training camp practice over the weekend. Toney had a disastrous 2023 season with the Chiefs, so perhaps the coaching staff is looking for creative ways to get the speedy wideout more involved this year. During wideout drills, Toney was present for 7-on-7 reps, alternating with the first-string offense and the third-string unit. Head coach Andy Reid didn't really give any clues to how the Chiefs might be using Toney differently this year. Not only does the former first-rounder need to show more in camp and the preseason this year in order to secure a roster spot, but he needs to stay healthy. The 25-year-old is currently on the outside looking in and is off the fantasy radar in single-year leagues.

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney is heading into a make-or-break year in 2024 as he enters the final year of his rookie deal. Toney missed training camp and the preseason in 2023 while recovering from surgery to fix the meniscus and cartilage in his knee. He struggled in the regular season with drops and was benched in December. Not only must Toney stay healthy, but he needs to rebuild his chemistry with quarterback Patrick Mahomes while also showing he can be a top target for backup Carson Wentz in the preseason. Even after the offseason additions of Marquise Brown and rookie Xavier Worthy, there's an argument to be made that Toney is the team's most talented pass-catcher. However, the 25-year-old needs to show consistency in camp this summer and in the preseason to secure a spot on the active roster. If not, he's a candidate to be traded.

The Kansas City Chiefs have declined their fifth-year option on wide receiver Kadarius Toney, according to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team. By doing so, the Chiefs will opt against bringing Toney back for $14.345 million in 2025. Instead, he'll finish out his rookie contract in Kansas City this season before hitting free agency next March. Toney had a fifth-year option due to his status as a former first-round pick. He has been a massive disappointment since the Giants selected him in the 2021 NFL Draft. Toney totaled 760 receiving yards, 119 rushing yards, and four total touchdowns through his first three seasons, and he also struggled to stay healthy, playing in just 12 games for the Giants and 20 for the Chiefs. He remains an inferior receiver to Travis Kelce, Rashee Rice, and Xavier Worthy, leaving Toney on waivers in most redraft leagues.

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney is still with the team and is participating in throwing sessions with quarterback Patrick Mahomes in Texas. Even though Toney was benched for the final three regular-season games and four more in the playoffs after his mistakes hurt the team earlier in the year, both general manager Brett Veach and head coach Andy Reid sound as if Toney is in their plans for 2024. "He is probably our most talented wideout now," Veach said. Along with mistakes, injuries have made it hard for Toney to stay on the field and consistent since being acquired in a trade from the Giants in 2022. The Chiefs are staying patient with the 25-year-old former first-rounder, though, especially with Rashee Rice facing a multi-week suspension for his involvement in a six-car crash.

Dynasty | Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney is going to be a healthy scratch for the Super Bowl. Dynasty Analysis: It's been a disaster of a season for Toney and this is just going to put a cherry on top. After being ineffective most of the year, he turned destructive on social media lately and has a lot of work to do in order to secure a place on the Kansas City roster next season. At this point, it would be a surprise to see him back with the Chiefs and a release seems like the more likely scenario this off-season. Toney's dynasty value is hanging by a thread.

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney (coach's decision) is officially a healthy scratch for Sunday's Super Bowl against the San Francisco 49ers. An apparent rift has grown between Toney and the team this playoffs, with the receiver accusing the Chiefs of misconstruing his injury status. Head coach Andy Reid indicated Toney would likely be inactive for the big game, and now it's official. He finishes the year having caught 27 of 39 targets for 169 yards and one touchdown through 13 regular-season games. He also added 31 rushing yards and 58 punt return yards. Rashee Rice, Travis Kelce, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling are expected to operate as Patrick Mahomes' top options in the passing game versus the Niners.

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney is not expected to play in Super Bowl LVIII against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, according to a league source. Toney had a big game in last year's Super Bowl win over the Philadelphia Eagles, but he struggled with injuries and inconsistent play in 2023 and hasn't played in a game since Week 15. In that Week 15 game against the New England Patriots, Toney deflected a pass to a defender for an interception for the second time this year. He made headlines earlier in the playoffs when he said he was "not hurt" after the win over the Ravens in the AFC Championship game. The 25-year-old was expected to have a bigger role in his first full year in KC, but instead he finished with just 27 receptions (38 targets) for 169 yards and one touchdown during the regular season.

Feb 6 7:30pm ET

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney was taken off the injury report last week. Head coach Andy Reid said that Toney has been practicing but was non-committal about whether the receiver would play in the Super Bowl this Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers. "We'll see, I don't know. He's been practicing. We'll just see whether he's up or not," Reid said. With Toney and Skyy Moore (knee) not having played since Week 15, the Chiefs have relied heavily on tight end Travis Kelce, rookie receiver Rashee Rice and running back Isiah Pacheco and that should continue this weekend. Even if Toney is active for the Chiefs in the Super Bowl, fantasy managers shouldn't expect him to be on the field for many offensive snaps.
