Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon (ankle) was limited in practice on Wednesday. Mixon has been battling an ankle sprain for several weeks but he returned to the field in Week 6 against the New England Patriots without any limitations. As a veteran, it is not uncommon for Mixon to receive rest or limited practice participation in the middle of the week. When healthy, Mixon has been excellent in 2024. In two full games played, he has rushed for 261 yards and two touchdowns. He has added 49 receiving yards and a touchdown in those games as well. The Texans seem intent on riding Mixon throughout the season which is great for fantasy managers provided he can stay healthy. Mixon will slot in as a high-end RB2 or low-end RB1 against the Green Bay Packers in Week 7.

Oct 15 1:00pm ET

Houston Texans' RB Joe Mixon scored 27.20 fantasy points in Sunday's Week 6 win in New England. Mixon ran for 102 yards and caught two passes for 30 yards with two touchdowns. It's the 2nd time this season Mixon scored at least 25 fantasy points in a game.

Oct 13 6:33pm ET

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon rushed for 102 yards and one touchdown on 13 carries against the New England Patriots in Week 6. He also caught two passes for 30 yards and one touchdown during the game.

Fantasy Spin: Mixon returned to the lineup this week after missing multiple games because of injury. He was productive in both the running and passing games against the Patriots and should be a weekly starting option in fantasy leagues.

Texans' RB Joe Mixon ran for 102 yards on 13 carries with one touchdown in Sunday's win in New England.

Oct 13 4:20pm ET

Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon delivered in his first game back from an ankle injury, compiling 132 total yards, two catches, and two touchdowns in a 41-21 defeat of the New England Patriots. The first-year Texan caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from quarterback C.J. Stroud in the first quarter, then went to work on the ground, finishing with 13 carries for 102 yards. Mixon's 20-yard touchdown carry in the fourth quarter was his first scoring run since Week 1, and his 30 receiving yards ranked third on the team Sunday. The former Cincinnati Bengal continues to be option No. 1 out of the Houston backfield as the Texans prepare for Green Bay in Week 7.

Oct 13 12:03pm ET

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (ankle) is officially active for the Week 6 game.

Fantasy Spin: Mixon likely will be the starting running back for the Texans, but it is not known if he will be able to handle his normal workload. He should be a No. 2 back or flex option in fantasy leagues.

From TheHuddle

Oct 13 11:30am ET

Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon (ankle) is officially active for Week 6 against the New England Patriots. He had been listed as questionable but was trending in the right direction heading into the weekend. Mixon will make his first appearance since Week 2 against the Chicago Bears when he suffered his ankle injury while being taken down on a hip-drop tackle. He should handle a near-full workload this week against the Patriots, who have a solid run defense but could allow the Texans to settle into a comfortable positive game script. Mixon ranks as a mid-range RB2 for fantasy football in his first game back.

From RotoBaller

Oct 12 7:03pm ET

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (ankle) is expected to play in Week 6, per source on Saturday, Oct. 12.

Fantasy Spin: There's been nothing to suggest that Mixon will see a limited workload in his first game back, so fire him up without hesitation. He's an RB1 entering Week 6.

From TheHuddle

Oct 12 3:00pm ET

Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon (ankle) is expected to play on Sunday according to Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports. Mixon has been sidelined since suffering an ankle injury in their Week 2 victory over the Chicago Bears. After opening the week missing practice on Wednesday, Mixon was able to log a limited session on both Thursday and Friday which is also a very good sign. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status ahead of kickoff in case he faces a setback. The 28-year-old looked sharp in his Houston debut as he ran for 159 yards and a score on 30 attempts and should be locked into all lineups as a solid RB2 facing the New England Patriots.

From RotoBaller

Oct 11 5:43pm ET

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (ankle) was limited at practice for the second straight day on Friday, Oct. 11, and was is questionable for Week 6.

Fantasy Spin: The lack of a full practice might mean Mixon needs one more week, but his status ahead of game time bears monitoring just in case he does suit up. If Mixon plays, he's an RB1 play. If he sits, Houston's backfield situation should be avoided if possible, as the Texans might deploy a three-man committee with Cam Akers, Dare Ogunbowale and Dameon Pierce.

Oct 11 5:33pm ET

Houston Texans CB Kamari Lassiter (shoulder), S Jimmie Ward (groin) and WR Robert Woods (foot) did not take part in practice on Friday, Oct. 11, and have been ruled out for Week 6. Also, RB Joe Mixon (ankle) was limited and is questionable, DE Derek Barnett (shoulder) and DT Kurt Hinish (calf) practiced in full but are questionable, DT Mario Edwards Jr. (personal) was limited but carries no designation and OG Kenyon Green (knee), LB Jake Hansen (back), OT Tytus Howard (hamstring), OT Laremy Tunsil (ankle), LB Del'Shawn Phillips (hip) and RB Dameon Pierce (hamstring) practiced in full and carry no designation into Sunday.

Oct 11 3:40pm ET

Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon (ankle) practiced again on Friday for the second day in a row and is expected to play in Week 6 on Sunday against the New England Patriots. League sources expressed optimism that Mixon will be ready to take on a solid workload against the Patriots, barring an unexpected setback. He suffered a minor high-ankle sprain in the Week 2 win over the Chicago Bears and has missed the last three games. In addition to Mixon, it seems likely that Dameon Pierce (hamstring) will also be back against the Pats, which would push Cam Akers and Dare Ogunbowale back to the bench. In the season opener against the Colts, Mixon rushed for 159 yards and one touchdown on a career-high 30 carries. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect that type of workload on Sunday, but Mixon should at least be considered an RB2 option in his return.

Oct 11 12:53pm ET

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (ankle) was spotted at practice Friday, Oct. 11.

Fantasy Spin: Mixon seems to be trending in the right direction, but managers will want to defer to the final injury report to see his designation for the weekend. If he's active, Mixon is a fringe RB1.

From TheHuddle

Oct 10 5:53pm ET

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (ankle) was limited at practice on Thursday, Oct. 10, after not taking part the day before.

Fantasy Spin: This was the first practice participation Mixon has had since suffering an ankle injury a few weeks back, and based on videos from beat writers on the ground, he looked to be moving at full speed during the open part of practice. If Mixon returns, he's a must-start RB1. If he sits, it's anyone's guess how Houston's backfield will pan out, as Dameon Pierce is on track to return this week and both Cam Akers and Dare Ogunbowale could make this a three-headed nightmare. Ogunbowale had a team-high 21 touches last week while Akers had just 11. Houston's backfield situation should be avoided if Mixon doesn't play.

Houston Texans CB Kamari Lassiter (shoulder), S Jimmie Ward (groin) and WR Robert Woods (foot) did not practice on Thursday, Oct. 10. Also, DE Derek Barnett (shoulder), OG Kenyon Green (knee), LB Jake Hansen (back), OT Tytus Howard (hamstring), RB Joe Mixon (ankle) and LB Del'Shawn Phillips (hip) were limited and OT Laremy Tunsil (ankle), RB Dameon Pierce (hamstring) and DT Kurt Hinish (calf) practiced in full.

Oct 10 3:43pm ET

Updating a previous report, Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (ankle) told reporters he and his injured ankle felt good during practice on Thursday, Oct. 10. While Mixon expects to practice again on Friday, he noted that no decision has been made regarding his status for Week 6 against the New England Patriots.

Fantasy Spin: The Patriots have proven to be a tough opponent this season, but they should be one the Texans can beat without Mixon. As such, it seems more likely than not Mixon will miss one more game before returning in Week 7 against the Green Bay Packers. When Mixon returns, he should be a solid RB2 option again. If he misses one more game this weekend, however, Houston will probably opt for a committee of Dameon Pierce, Cam Akers and Dare Ogunbowale.

From TheHuddle

Oct 10 2:53pm ET

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (ankle) returned to practice on Thursday, Oct. 10

Fantasy Spin: Mixon was almost certainly limited on Thursday, but it marks his first activity of any kind in almost two weeks. While there is no way to know at this point if he will be ready to play in Week 6 versus the New England Patriots, a Thursday practice at least provides some hope. Fantasy managers should prepare to not have him for this weekend, but his return to practice should mean he will be good to go no later than Week 7 - barring a setback.

From TheHuddle

Oct 10 2:40pm ET

Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon (ankle) is at practice on Thursday for the first time this week. The former Cincinnati Bengal is dealing with a high-ankle sprain and hasn't played since Week 2, so his return to practice is promising for a potential Week 6 return to game action. Mixon was excellent in the Week 1 game against the Indianapolis Colts, posting 178 total yards and a touchdown on 33 touches. He was injured in Week 2 and only produced 50 total yards. Fantasy managers should check back on Friday for his practice participation and gameday status, but if he plays, it will be tough to keep him out of the lineup against the New England Patriots, who have surrendered the 11th-most fantasy points per game to running backs. If Mixon doesn't play, Dameon Pierce (hamstring), who is likely to return this week, could handle starting duties. However, there's a chance Houston will opt to implement a three-headed backfield with Pierce, Cam Akers, and Dare Ogunbowale.

From RotoBaller

Oct 9 5:53pm ET

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (ankle) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 9.

Fantasy Spin: Mixon has been sidelined for multiple weeks and does not appear to have a good chance to play in Week 6. He is a weekly starting option when healthy, but fantasy players may need another option again this week if he is ruled out.

From TheHuddle

Oct 9 2:00pm ET

Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon (ankle) is not practicing to begin the week on Wednesday. On Monday, head coach DeMeco Ryans said the team still does not know exactly when Mixon will be able to return after he sprained his ankle in the Week 2 win over the Chicago Bears. And now that Mixon has picked up another DNP to begin the week, his status for the Week 6 game against the New England Patriots is firmly up in the air. The good news is the 28-year-old has made some progress, but he still needs to get back on the practice field to have any shot at playing this Sunday. Dameon Pierce (hamstring) hasn't played since the season opener, leaving Cam Akers and Dare Ogunbowale as Houston's primary backfield options each of the last three weeks. Fantasy managers won't have a clearer picture on the Texans' backfield until later this week.
