Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson has the potential to be a big-time contributor in fantasy football this season, but Week 1 might not be the week to start him. On one hand, there's merit behind the idea that Ferguson could benefit from the Cowboys throwing the football a lot, assuming they fall behind early. However, he still faces an uphill battle to produce against an Eagles defense that shut down the tight end position last year. Through 17 games in 2024, Philadelphia's defense allowed the fewest receiving yards, third-fewest catches, and third-fewest fantasy points to tight ends. Ferguson likely doesn't have the top-tier talent that's required to buck that trend. After all, in his two games against the Eagles last year, he totaled seven catches for a measly 42 yards. Additionally, each of his two fumbles last season came against Philadelphia. He ranks outside the top 12 at his position this week.

Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson (back) did not play during the team's preseason contest against the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday. The 26-year-old was sidelined near the start of the month, and although he returned to the practice field roughly one week ago, it appears that he wasn't healthy enough to play in Dallas' second preseason game. As a result, the Cowboys gave more passing opportunities to tight ends John Stephens Jr. and Princeton Fant. However, in reality, Devyn Spann-Ford and Luke Schoonmaker would be first in line to replace Ferguson if he's unable to suit up in Week 1. He's still an intriguing fringe top-12 fantasy tight end with Dak Prescott back under center this year. Even last year, while catching passes from both Prescott and Cooper Rush, Ferguson caught 59 passes for 494 yards. He did not catch a touchdown, finishing 2024 with double-digit fantasy points in just three of his 14 games. However, positive touchdown regression could vault him back up into the top-12 or top-15 range this year.

Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson (back) returned to the practice field on Friday. This is a good sight after Ferguson exited early during Thursday's practice due to a back contusion. Ferguson told reporters that he's dealing with some pain, but there's no structural damage. He wants to stay in his routine and he went through Friday's practice session without any issues. There's a decent chance that Ferguson sits out the preseason matchup against the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday. However, Ferguson should be fine in time for the regular season.

Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson (back) is dealing with a back contusion that he suffered when he took a hard hit during Thursday's training camp practice, a source told ESPN's Todd Archer. Ferguson's injury isn't considered serious, though, so the Cowboys appear to have avoided an injury scare with the No. 1 tight end. The Cowboys are definitely exhaling after signing the 26-year-old to a four-year, $52 million extension just a few weeks ago. He probably won't practice on Friday or suit up for Saturday's preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams, but Ferguson should be fine for the Week 1 regular-season opener against the division-rival Philadelphia Eagles on Sept. 4. Injuries to himself and quarterback Dak Prescott derailed his 2024 campaign, but Ferguson is looking to bounce back as a low-end TE1 in fantasy in 2025 after he was a Pro Bowler in 2023.

Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson (back) took a shot in training camp practice on Thursday and was down for a bit before heading to the injury tent while grabbing his lower back, according to Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Ferguson stood up for a while and walked around before dropping down to a knee. It's something to keep an eye on with the team's top pass-catching tight end, and this will probably keep him from playing in Saturday's preseason opener against the Los Angeles Rams. The 26-year-old former fourth-rounder caught 59 passes for 494 yards and no touchdowns in 14 starts a year ago but was a Pro Bowler in 2023 with a 71-761-5 line in 17 games (16 starts). As long as he's healthy, he'll be in play as a low-end TE1 in fantasy now that quarterback Dak Prescott is back to full health. Luke Schoonmaker is the next TE up in Dallas if Ferguson's injury is serious.

Dynasty | The Dallas Cowboys signed tight end Jake Ferguson to a contract extension. Dynasty Analysis: The extension is reportedly worth $52 million, including a $12 million signing bonus and $30 million in guaranteed money. After a 71/761/5 breakout in 2023, Ferguson regressed last season, posting just 59 catches for 494 scoreless yards. Dallas clearly believes that was an outlier and dynasty managers may just be looking at a value pick at his current ADP. Respond accordingly.

The Dallas Cowboys and standout tight end Jake Ferguson agreed to terms on a four-year contract extension on Sunday worth $52 million in new money with $30 million total guaranteed, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Ferguson will receive a $12 million signing bonus. The 26-year-old took a step back in 2024, catching 59 of 86 targets for 494 yards and no touchdowns in 14 starts after going for a 71-761-5 line in 17 games in 2023. He was unable to take the next step due to quarterback Dak Prescott's season-ending hamstring injury. Receiver George Pickens will take valuable targets away from Ferguson in 2025, but as long as both he and Prescott stay healthy, Ferguson should improve on his numbers from a year ago. Fantasy managers should target him as a low-end TE1 if they decide to wait on the position.

Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson recently divulged to Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that the knee injury he sustained in Week 1 of 2024 was a season-long issue. However, he isn't using that as an excuse for his subpar campaign. "My knee hurt, for sure," said Ferguson. "The concussion was weird. But I've said this before: if I'm on the field, I should be able to give it my all." After a strong 2023 (71/761/5), the 26-year-old regressed last season -- failing to score a touchdown or top 500 yards in 14 appearances. He's an excellent bounce-back candidate ahead of 2025, with head coach Brian Schottenheimer noting, "the look in his eyes and the way his body looks...the way he's moving has been noticeably different in a good way." Ferguson will have the newly acquired George Pickens to contend with for targets this year, but the Cowboys' lack of appeal in their RB room could signal a third straight season with a top 12 passing rate in the league.
