2024 RTSports Outlook

Vidal was a sixth-round pick in this year's draft, but lands in a good spot to get some playing time. The Chargers drafted him and have some openings at running back this year with some question marks ahead of him on the depth chart. Vidal is a powerful runner that was highly productive in college. He got a ton of work and produced. He does well between the tackles and is tough to bring down once he gets going. Vidal also is a solid pass catcher, showing three-down ability. He isn't a speed back, though, and his moves in space are just alright. Vidal could be No. 2 or 3 on the depth chart his rookie season for the Chargers.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Vidal is worth a draft spot in all formats. He could end up a bust but the pathway for playing time is there for him. He could get 700 total yards, 25 receptions and a few scores.

RotoBaller's Outlook

It isn't often that a sixth-round rookie is a priority target in fantasy drafts, but that is the case with Los Angeles Chargers' running back Kimani Vidal. The Troy product joins a run-first offense with a very winnable RB1 job, as Los Angeles lost Austin Ekeler in free agency and brought in Gus Edwards and the oft-injured J.K. Dobbins. Vidal rushed for 1,661 yards and 14 touchdowns as a senior while adding 18 catches for 201 yards and a score. He was a workhorse in college and has the ability to do so at the next level. Wearing jersey number thirty for the Chargers as an under-the-radar addition, the Ekeler comparisons will start from Day 1. As a player, Isaiah Pacheco is a notable comparison. Vidal offers similar size and speed along with late-round draft capital and the ability to command a backfield. His late-round price is worth it every time, as this backfield will have touches available immediately.

Los Angeles Chargers running back Kimani Vidal is the current projected RB3 in Greg Roman's offense, according to Daniel Popper of The Athletic. The sixth-round rookie out of Troy appears to be a popular sleeper candidate in 2024 after posting over 1,600 rushing yards and 15 total touchdowns in his final collegiate season. He is slated to be behind veterans and former Baltimore Ravens Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins to open the season. However, Dobbins is coming off his second major injury of his short career, and we have not seen a running back return to form after an Achilles tear. Vidal is worth stashing in deep formats in case Dobbins struggles, but any Day 3 rookie is far from guaranteed a roster spot or a significant role in Year 1, so don't reach on him in fantasy drafts.
