Texans' RB Joe Mixon scored 26.80 fantasy points in Sunday's Week 1 win in Indianapolis. Mixon ran for 159 yards and caught three passes for 19 yards with one touchdown. It's the 1st time this season Mixon scored at least 25 fantasy points in a game.

Dynasty | Texans running back Joe Mixon had 159 yards and a touchdown in Houston's opening day win against the Colts. Dynasty Analysis: So far, so good for Mixon, who had a whopping 33 touches on the day (he added three catches for 19 yards). It seems Houston is more than happy feeding Mixon until the wheels come off this year and that's good news for dynasty managers. Mixon has the looks of a serious bounceback performer after one week. We'll wait to see it again next week before overreacting but this was a big day for Mixon and his dynasty managers.

From Dynasty League Fantasy

Sep 8 8:13pm ET

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon rushed 30 times for 159 yards and a touchdown in Week 1 against the Indianapolis Colts in his team debut, and he added three receptions for 19 yards on his three targets.

Fantasy Spin: Mixon had just one 100-yard game last season, and that came in Week 18 after most fantasy playoffs ended. The 159 rushing yards were his most since going for 165 yards and two scores against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Nov. 28, 2021 as member of the Cincinnati Bengals. Mixon is still just 28 years old, and he has plenty left in the tank. He is a solid RB2 in most fantasy leagues, and he'll look to keep it going in Week 2 against the Chicago Bears on Sunday Night Football.

From TheHuddle

Sep 8 7:40pm ET

Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon had an excellent debut with his news team, piling up 159 rushing yards and a touchdown while catching all three of his targets for an additional 19 yards in Houston's 29-27 victory at Indianapolis. Mixon had both volume and efficiency within the Texans' offense, an outstanding sign for fantasy managers through one week. The 28-year-old back was the overwhelming first option out of the Houston backfield, drawing a whopping 30 carries to just three for backup Dameon Pierce. The former Bengal also tied for fourth on the team in targets with tight end Dalton Schultz, indicating that he will be involved in the passing game and his rushing workload. Mixon should continue to be a lineup regular as Houston looks to go 2-0 with a home game against the Chicago Bears in Week 2.

Texans' RB Joe Mixon ran for 159 yards on 30 carries with one touchdown in Sunday's win in Indianapolis.

Sep 5 9:53pm ET

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon was brought in because the team believes he will be a 'major factor' in the red zone, according to Dan Graziano of ESPN.com.

Fantasy Spin: Mixon finds himself as the lead back in a talented Houston offense, and touchdown opportunities should be plentiful. Volume and opportunity alone should push him into the top of the RB2 tier.

Sep 4 3:13am ET

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (quad) 'displayed explosiveness during a (recent) joint practice session against the Los Angeles Rams and appears to be fully recovered from the quad injury that caused him to miss the majority of the preseason, according to KPRC's Aaron Wilson. 'Joe will be doing what he's done his entire career. I don't think you'll see anything different. He's a strong, physical back. He's going to get yards. So, I'm excited about seeing Joe run the ball behind our offensive line,' head coach DeMeco Ryans told reporters on Tuesday, Sept. 4.

Fantasy Spin: Mixon was not an efficient back in Cincinnati despite the Bengals' ridiculous talent in the passing game, but the 28-year-old will get another crack to anchor a ground game attached to a dynamic passing attack. Ryans' comments would suggest he will get his usual 300-plus touches, which will be enough to keep him firmly in the high-end RB2 conversation at worst.

From TheHuddle

Sep 4 12:20am ET

Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon (quadriceps) is fully healthy, according to KPRC's Aaron Wilson. Mixon reportedly dealt with an undisclosed issue throughout the preseason, which we now know was a quadricep injury. He didn't suit up for any of the Texans' preseason games, but that may have been a result of his veteran status rather than any real injury concerns. Regardless, we now know that Mixon is fully healthy and should not have any limitations when he makes his Texans debut against the Colts on Sunday. The veteran appeared in all 17 games for the Bengals last season, registering 1,034 rushing yards, 376 receiving yards, and 12 total touchdowns. If he can continue to produce at this pace, he'll be a low-end RB1 in fantasy football this year.

From RotoBaller

Sep 3 8:23pm ET

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon is fully healthy after a preseason quadriceps injury and is expected to have a heavy workload in the offense, Aaron Wilson of Click2Houston.com wrote on Tuesday, Sept. 3.

Fantasy Spin: Mixon has Dameon Pierce and Cam Akers behind him, but he was always expected to at least lead the group. After finishing as RB11 overall in points per game last season, Mixon stands to receive a heavy workload in an explosive offense that should offer plenty of touchdown chances. He's an RB2 with RB1 upside if everything pans out.

Aug 22 4:20pm ET

Houston Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans praised running back Joe Mixon's receiving skills, highlighting what sets him apart. Ryans commented, "Joe stands out as a receiving running back. While everyone recognizes his physical running style and ability to gain yards even without perfect blocking, his hands out of the backfield are exceptional. If downfield options are unavailable, we can rely on him for check-downs and big plays in the passing game." This endorsement makes Mixon a strong candidate for the middle rounds in PPR leagues. Mixon has adapted well to the zone-based schemes used by offensive coordinator Slowik and remains a valuable pass-catching asset. Despite missing most of training camp due to a quadriceps injury and lacking preseason game action, Mixon is expected to be ready for the season opener on September 8 against the Indianapolis Colts.

From RotoBaller

Aug 21 1:30pm ET

Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon (quadriceps) had two good runs during training camp practice on Wednesday to start team drills and looks close to being back to full health, if he wasn't already. Mixon missed the first two-plus weeks of camp with a quadriceps injury, but he returned on Aug. 11 and appears to be fully back up to speed with his new team. In Mixon's absence, Dameon Pierce didn't take advantage of the extra reps and could be in jeopardy of not making the final 53-man roster. Mixon is in another explosive offense under second-year quarterback C.J. Stroud and should see the vast majority of backfield work in Houston. However, the 28-year-old hasn't been as efficient as a ball-carrier in recent seasons with the Bengals and may not be able to make up for it with the high volume of pass-catching work he had in Cincy. Still, he should be used enough by the Texans in 2024 to warrant consideration as an RB2 in fantasy drafts.

Aug 16 7:13pm ET

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (quadriceps) is expected to receive some playing time during the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 17.

Fantasy Spin: Mixon missed the early part of training camp because of the injury but returned to practice this week and is on track for his first game. He should receive plenty of touches during the season and can be a weekly starting option in fantasy leagues.

From TheHuddle

Aug 11 9:40pm ET

Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon (quad) returned to practice on Sunday following a multi-week absence, according to a video from Aaron Wilson of KPRC2. Acquired from the Cincinnati Bengals during the offseason, Mixon now appears to be 100 percent and on track to lead the Houston backfield when the NFL season kicks off in a few weeks. Dameon Pierce may push to earn some touches in 2024, but Mixon, who tallied 1,410 scrimmage yards and 12 touchdowns last year, is their lead back and should be valued accordingly. He's a fringe top-12 running back in redraft fantasy football leagues.

Jul 31 9:30pm ET

Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon (quadriceps) won't play in Thursday's Hall of Fame game against the Chicago Bears in Canton, OH. That said, Mixon has been making steady progress in his recovery from a minor quad injury that knocked him out of practices early in training camp. After being ruled out of the opening preseason contest, Mixon should be on track soon to resume activities in his first season with the Texans. Mixon will assume the lion's share of the workload at running back for Houston with an average of 253 rushing attempts in his last three seasons as a Cincinnati Bengal. The 28-year-old Mixon is settling in as an upside RB2 thanks to his volume projection, and with the leap the Texans' offense should get in 2024, there will be plenty of touchdowns and available work for Mixon to capitalize on this season as an every-down workhorse back.

Jul 31 5:23pm ET

Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon (quadriceps) is making progress in his recovery from a quadriceps injury and is expected to return to practice at some point during the preseason.

Fantasy Spin: Mixon has several weeks to recover before the start of the regular season and probably will be eased back into practice. He is in line for a significant role in the offense this season and will be a weekly starting option in fantasy leagues.

From TheHuddle

Jul 30 2:50pm ET

Houston Texans Pro Bowl running back Joe Mixon (hamstring) didn't practice on Monday. Mixon won't play in the Hall of Fame game on Thursday against the Chicago Bears in Canton, with backup Dameon Pierce and rookie Jawhar Jordan being expected to play extensively. It's too early on the calendar to have any real concern about Mixon's hamstring injury, but soft-tissue issues always have a change to linger, and fantasy managers as well as the Texans are hoping to see him back on the field soon. While the 28-year-old is not as explosive as he once was, he's looking at a massive workload in Houston's upstart offense after taking 257 carries and catching 57 passes in 17 games with the Cincinnati Bengals as their workhorse in 2023. Mixon is a solid RB2 bet in the middle rounds of drafts this summer as a likely three-down player during his first year with his new team.

Jul 29 7:13pm ET

Houston Texans QB Case Keenum (undisclosed), RB Joe Mixon (undisclosed), OT Laremy Tunsil (knee), LB Christian Harris (undisclosed) and CB CJ Henderson (ankle) did not participate in practice Monday, July 29.

From TheHuddle

Jul 29 1:30pm ET

Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon (hamstring) still remains absent at Monday's training camp practice. Mixon has missed more than a week now with his hamstring injury, which has allowed backup Dameon Pierce extra repetitions after a disappointing sophomore campaign in Houston. There are no indications that Mixon's injury will put him in danger of missing the start of the 2024 regular season, but the longer he remains out, the more time Pierce will have to impress the coaching staff. When healthy, Mixon should be Houston's primary RB in an up-and-coming offense. Fantasy managers will want to target him ideally as a high-end RB2, but Mixon is probably going to need to be much more efficient as a runner to be worth his draft price, as he's most likely not going to be as involved as a pass-catcher with the Texans as he was with the Bengals.
