ABOUT US: The Goodfellas Fantasy Football League (GFFL) was founded in 1996 with the idea of having some friendly competition amongst family, friends and co-workers, and the opportunity to win a little money on the side. It started with 8 teams and grew from there. It's a non-profit group that only uses funds from the league to run the league website and host league functions. All other monies are awarded back to the teams. We strive to mirror the NFL as much as possible for a realistic feel to the league.
SETUP: The GFFL is a head-to-head league based on wins and losses earned through the use of an 8-player lineup (1 QB, Flexing RB's (0-2) & WR's/TE's (3-5), 1 K and 1 DT). Points are earned based on player performance according to our scoring system.
DRAFT: The GFFL hosts a league draft each year, a week or two prior to the start of the NFL season. Draft position is drawn from a hat for each Conference. The draft runs as an "S" Style (1-12, 12-1, 1-12) for 14 rounds. The draft also runs live online through our website for those who physically can't be present. Trading of Draft positions/players is allowed. If you draft a player who gets injured, cut or traded, we will replace that player for you before Week 1. Requests for replacements will be filled based on Draft Order.
ORGANIZATION: The league is divided into Conferences and Divisions based on the number of teams entered each year. Typically, 14 teams and under will have 1 Conference and 16 or more teams will run 2. Divisions usually hold 4-6 teams each based on the number of teams in Conference.
SCHEDULE: The GFFL schedule is generated after the draft and runs from NFL Week 1 through NFL Week 12 or 13 (depending on number of teams). The setup allows for playing each team in your Division twice and other out of Division or Conference games once based on the number of teams in each Conference. A double-header week is usually scheduled when the NFL is not using "Byes". The season is usually 13 -14 regular season games and 3-4 weeks of playoffs.
FEES & TRANSACTIONS: The League Entry Fee is $150.00. Owners can improve their teams after the Draft through transactions by using the Waiver Wire, Free-Agent Pick-ups or Trades. Transactions are included in your entry fee. Trades are open from Draft day through Week 10. The Waiver Wire runs each Tuesday night and allows each team to submit requests for players based on the order of that week's league standings, from worst to first. On Wednesday night, the Free-Agent Pick-up period begins and runs through the start of the last game of the NFL week, usually Monday night. Free-Agent and Waiver wire players acquired are limited to 5 per week, so plan accordingly! In conjunction with these transactions, the league also has an Injured Reserve feature. Teams may place up to 2 injured players on IR as long as that player is designated with an injury status on our website as OUT, PUP or IR. Suspended players are not eligible for I/R.
PLAYOFFS: At the end of the Regular Season, the Division winners are awarded the top Seeds in each Conference based on record (tie-breakers; see below). The next best teams (depending on number of teams) in the Conference based on record will be awarded the remaining Seeds , or Wildcard Seeds. 1st and 2nd Seeds earn a 1st round bye while Seed 5 Vs Seed 4 and Seed 3 Vs Seed 6 in the first round (NFL Week 13). In case of a tie, the higher ranked seed advances to the next round. Playoff Week 2 features Seed 1 Vs the lowest remaining seeded team and Seed 2 Vs the second lowest seeded team remaining. Week 3 is the two remaining teams for the Conference Championship. Week 4 is the GFFL Championship between the Conference Champions and 3rd Place games. Playoffs may be shortened by one week depending on the number of teams entered for the season.
TIE-BREAKERS: Since this is often a key component in determining the seeding of teams for the playoffs or winner of a Division, we need to explain this system so owners understand how teams are ranked. We rely on our automated system to set the waiver wire from week to week. It sets the order based on our input of tie-breakers in the system and computes the order. What we found is that in the case of a three-way tie, between teams in different divisions, and/or teams that did not play each other an equal amount of times, the outcome was flawed from the way we intended it. The automated system also cannot understand that we rank our Division winners in the top seeds as well. So in these cases, this is the method we use:
1. HEAD TO HEAD RECORD: The team with the best record in games against the tied teams will win. If not, proceed to #2.
2. TOTAL POINTS SCORED: The team with the most total points scored during the Regular Season will win the tie.
CESS POOL: Our new program that includes all teams not in the playoffs to start their best line-up and win some cash. The pool runs the 4 weeks of the playoffs and will include any playoff team eliminated the previous week. No transactions for this pool...use what you got! Highest points takes the cash for that week!
