I started hosting Fantasy Football in 1998 (yes, pre internet), because the leagues I had played on previously seemed all about the commissioner and his power to make and impose rules and regulations and have his ring kissed as the smartest guy in the room. I envisioned a league where the team owners had a chance to make the league more fun and competitive with their input, and have a fair vote on changes. After a year of manually using the USA today box scores to decide winners and losers, I went high tech and moved to PC software, Terry Bradshaw’s Fantasy Football to be exact. Then in 2002 I found Real Time Sports. I chose this site as they were one of the very first to offer online drafting and have been here ever since. This league has been running well over a decade now, and it continues to grow and improve with feedback and input from you, the team owners. This is your league.
The draft will last for approximately 2-4 hours depending on how long each pick takes.
Each team will have 3 minutes to pick a player. (Allow for the internet and refresh screens please).
If you miss a pick (you won't if you have a cheat sheet and "fail-safe" mode on) you will have to wait till the end of the draft to make it up.
The draft alternates each round. If we have 15 teams and you pick 10th in round one you would pick 6th in round two. If you picked 14th in round one you would pick 2 in round two and so on.
You should all have a draft cheat sheet completed. You can "load" a cheat sheet from rtsports if you don't want to pick your own. That's what I recommend.
Everyone should have their systems set to "fail-safe" this way if your PC explodes or you fall down the stairs the day of the draft the system will pick your team for you automatically. On "fail-safe" the system will only pick if you do nothing for all 3 minutes so it won't get in your way while you draft.
If I see that the system is making your picks (2 in a row) and I have not heard from you and don’t see you in the draft chat room I will assume that you DID fall down the stairs or that your PC DID explode. I may then switch your picks from "fail-safe" to "instant" so the rest of the owners don't have to wait the 3 minutes for your automatic pick. You can switch it back when you recover and get back in.
I can as commissioner pause the draft if needed. It has happened before. If something is wrong on your side I won't know it unless you call or text me. Call/text as often as you need to with concerns or questions during the draft. If I need to pause the draft for someone other than you all you will see is the stop light at the top of the screen go from green to yellow. (I think it says the words "paused" as well) Don't panic and please be patient while we work out any problems. Look to the draft chat room for possible info.
Everyone prepares differently for the draft. If I was to recommend some useful items they would be: A top 200-300 players list, a recent injury report, the top 50-100 players listed by individual position and maybe a list of sleeper picks.
Point values are listed on the website under “rules”.
Other than the $85.00 fee there are no other costs. Trades, free agent pick-ups, waiver wire. All free!
You will be picking 2 QB's, 4RB's, 4WR's, 2TE's, 2 K's and 2 DT/ST We combine defense and special teams into one so you get points for interceptions and sacks as well as punt/kickoff returns.
Each team will be allowed to put one player on injured reserve immediately after the draft and throughout the season. The player does not have to be injured. This means after the draft is over you can stash a player on IR then pick up another of the same position from free agency. This can be done all year long.
The waiver wire works from worst to first. You put together a list of who you want and who you'll drop if you get them. The computer then goes round by round awarding the wanted players to the teams that requested them in order of record. "Worst to first" You can perform up to 5 transactions per waiver wire period.
Free agency starts every week after the waiver wire. It's a free for all so take who you want.
Remember, you cannot have more players on your team then what I listed above. To add or trade a QB you'll need to drop or trade a QB and so on. Hint: The injured reserve spot is handy here.
If two teams tie a game the system will use the total score of the bench players to break the tie. (New for 2011)
If two teams have the same win/loss record the tie will be broken with the following tie breaker criteria (in order):
Standings Tie-Breaking Scheme: |
Total Points Scored in Games - Break ties using points scored in all fantasy games played. Only updates when fantasy games are final. This is the same as the 'PF' - 'Points For' column in the standings. Divisional Record - Break ties using the division record. Conference Record - Break ties using the conference record. Total Points Standings - Break ties using the total points standings for the league, this is not points scored in games. Total Points Standings update live. |
